3 Job Description Job Title: Finance Business Partner Hours: 35 hours Responsible To: Director of Finance and Corporate Services Works With/Key Contact: Director Group and managers Location: BDCH Duration: Permanent Responsible For: N/A Salary: 46,650 Context and Background Established in 1860, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home aims to never turn away a dog or cat in need of our help, caring for them until their owners or loving new homes can be found, no matter how long it takes. We are champions for, and supporters of, vulnerable dogs and cats, determined to create lasting changes for animals in our society. We currently operate from three centres in Battersea London, Old Windsor in Berkshire and Brands Hatch in Kent. Every year, we care for over 7,000 dogs and cats. The Finance department deals with all financial, insurance, and HMRC matters relating to the Home at all sites and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Limited. It is responsible for the accounting of all income and expenditure, including wages and salaries. Finance produce management accounts, annual budgets and year end statutory accounts. The Finance team will assist and advise management and staff on financial matters. Main Purpose of the Role To work proactively and collaboratively with Directors and other senior managers as the primary point of contact to support and coach them across the full Finance remit to enable delivery of financial targets and key performance indicators and to raise the level of commerciality and financial awareness across the Home. Overall Objectives Identify and promote appropriate financial interventions and solutions which can support our senior managers through the understanding of their strategies, plans and key challenges. Proactively challenge, influence and support recognition of the impact of effective Finance interventions through having developed good relationships with senior staff. Embed a culture of financial awareness and commerciality within the organization. Provide a proactive, professional and effective Finance service for managers and staff across the organisation. To monitor management processes across the Home including planning, undertaking any audits/reviews, making recommendations and monitoring follow up. To provide an overview to management and trustees of the Home s control framework and key areas of non-compliance and required improvements. Improve the operational efficiency or to increase financial or charitable returns through leading specific Finance projects and initiatives.

4 Responsibilities Approx. % of time Support and guide budget holders and senior managers in their financial management 15% responsibilities, including the preparation and management of phased budgets Provide analysis and insight to the monthly management accounts 10% Support other directorates in the preparation of business proposals, and to challenge 10% these effectively Prepare quarterly reforecasts of the projected financial out-turn versus budget including 10% monitoring of capital expenditure, project expenditure and restricted funds Work closely with the Director of Finance & Corporate Services and the Head of 15% Financial Reporting & Control in driving the annual planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for both revenue and capital expenditure Meet the needs of internal stakeholders through the development of customer focussed 10% approach and activities Prepare ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis to support internal customers in their 10% understanding of the key drivers of performance Produce, consolidate and analyse the charity s key finance performance indicators 5% (KPIs) Take a lead role in the preparation of the Home s plan and associated spend 5% implications Support the production of the annual review and compilation of the Home s annual <5% statistics Proactively propose changes to systems and procedures to improve the efficiency of <5% the Finance department Proactive in keeping up to date with developments affecting financial systems and <5% processes, control framework and risk management. Train budget holders and other staff as appropriate in month end financial processes <5% The above job description is intended to be an outline of the duties and responsibilities for this role. Decision Making and Accountabilities Decision Making Deciding on which Finance interventions to pursue having appropriate regard to their overall impact on the Home Accountability Consolidation and review of Finance policies, ensuring they are updated and communicated to managers regularly, and are in accord with regulatory and statutory best practice. Delivery of specific Finance projects/initiatives with significant impact on the Home s financial and/or operational performance

5 Person Specification Essential Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) qualified Significant experience of providing a Finance service to a multi-site operation Knowledge and experience of corporate governance issues and risk management Ability and motivation to deliver high quality work with minimum supervision Significant experience of working constructively and collaboratively with colleagues from different teams A flexible approach to managing and prioritising a high workload and multiple complex issues and tasks in a changing environment with tight deadlines Proven experience of keeping up to date with and applying good practice in your role and encouraging those that you manage to do the same Experience of positively embracing and adapting to change by identifying, leading & managing change in line with organisational objectives Interpersonal and consultative skills, including the ability to communicate, present, negotiate, influence and build credibility with colleagues and external parties Excellent written and spoken English IT literate with good experience of MS Office and other relevant IT systems as appropriate for the role Able to promote an understanding of, and a commitment to the vision, mission and values of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Desirable Experience of designing and delivering training, especially to those who are not financially experienced.
