1 Thames Estuary Partnership Thames Estuary Partnership University College London Room Bedford Way London WC1H 0AP Tel: Web: Job Description & Person Specification Coastal Partnerships Officer Background Information The Thames Estuary Partnership (TEP) is a charity and neutral forum bringing Thames estuary stakeholders together to work towards the best social, economic and environmental outcomes for the Thames. Hosted by University College London (UCL), TEP has been building networks, delivering projects and facilitating partnership programmes for the past 20 years. TEP receives core funding from the Port of London Authority, Thames Water, Tideway and the Corporation of London. With board representation from Natural England, Essex County, UCL and RSPB, TEP aims to facilitate sound decision making for a sustainable future for the estuary. Our vision is to ensure the most sustainable future for the Thames Estuary while balancing the needs of local people and the local environment. Our mission is to maximise social, economic and environmental benefits for the Thames Estuary through working with all organisations and groups with an interest in the Thames. We achieve our mission by raising awareness of estuary issues, informing key decision makers, facilitating partnerships, developing and managing partnership projects and initiating research programs. Further information can be found at: The Project Coastal Partnerships Network The UK is unique in having an established set of Coastal Partnerships which are locally accountable, cross-sectoral and informal, advocating the ecosystem approach, sustainable use of marine resources and integrated, co-ordinated management. Our 47 Coastal Partnerships, many with up to 20 years experience, exist around the UK coast. They are varied in nature and geographic coverage as they were created for differing local needs and circumstances, but all now play a vital role in the integration and management of actions and activities on our coasts. The Coastal Partnerships Network (CPN) was established in 2006 as a volunteer led national forum that exists to encourage the exchange of information and debate between Coastal Partnerships, groups and fora; to establish links with other coastal 1

2 stakeholders and provide a national voice for coastal communities linking local practice and knowledge to national level debate and policy. The Programme Manager of the Thames Estuary Partnership (TEP) is the current Chair of the CPN and is responsible for driving forward the priorities set out in the CPN Action Plan (agreed and reviewed annually at the CPN Annual Forum) in collaboration with the CPN Steering Committee. We are recruiting one full time Coastal Partnerships Officer who will provide Secretariat duties for the voluntary CPN Steering Committee and drive forward the priorities in the CPN Action Plan through close working with the Chair/ TEP Programme Manager; manage budgets and assist in fundraising where appropriate. This position will be line managed by the TEP Programme Manager. The Coastal Partnership Officer will also report directly to the CPN Steering Committee. 2

3 The Role Job Title Coastal Partnerships Officer Location Thames Estuary Partnership Office, (University College, London) Reports to Programme Manager, Thames Estuary Partnership Main Purpose Working to the CPN Action Plan priorities Bolster CPN s national/regional/local stakeholder management by updating the CPN database and creating a calendar of opportunities as they arise Help the chair and committee to gather prompt, representative and considered consultation responses to influence relevant policy, ensuring a two-way flow of information, evidence and opinion. Produce a quarterly newsletter containing upcoming relevant events, conferences and consultations, and featuring best practice from CPs around the country, with links to the website; Re-develop the CPN website and liaise with CPs to develop a national database of projects, project ideas (partner search) and best practice case studies. Raising awareness and engaging smaller CPs in the work of CPN; updating the online map and membership details Support the creation of a CPN Community Interest Company Support the CPN committee in creating a set of professional standards for CP officers and explore establishment of CPN as a formally recognised professional body. Help organise two conferences in 2018 Help organise the CPN Annual Forum Work closely with the CPN Chair and Steering Committee Support the development of CPN events Assist the Chair with connecting projects with other areas of work e.g. Marine CoLABoration; marine plastic pollution 3

4 Other Project Activity and #OneLess; river basin planning; Ocean Literacy Keep up to date with European, National and Metropolitan Policy and consultations to inform CPN activity and development Identify external projects and initiatives to get involved with which further the aims of or add value to the CPN Produce bespoke promotional material and articles for in house and external publications and social media Responsibility for development of reports and regular reports / updates to the TEP Director. Funding Opportunities Networking to identify new relationships and funding opportunities for follow on funding or partnership projects resulting from this project Contribution to development of bids / grant proposals where appropriate Organise a fundraising workshop for CPs Assist in the development of a funding strategy for CPN to include a new funding model to resource the CPN Annual Forum CPN reporting Help facilitate and ensure positive engagement of CP s in CPN Steering Group teleconferences quarterly; Monitor and update progress in the CPN Action Plan Compile progress and financial reports to the CPN Other Duties Any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job and the title of the post as requested by the CPN Steering Group, TEP Programme Manager and TEP Director Actively follow appropriate policies including Equal Opportunities policies Maintaining an awareness and observation of Fire, Health & Safety Regulations 4

As duties and responsibilities change and develop the job description will be reviewed and be subject to amendment in consultation with the post holder Person Specification Qualifications & Experience Experience of stakeholder management and governance in a coastal/marine context is desirable but not essential Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Communication Proficient in word press and social media platforms Excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal with a wide range of people Able to present ideas effectively and provide information to key stakeholders where necessary Personal Effectiveness Essential Highly organised, able to prioritise work across multiple workstreams.
