1 September 2014 September PDM Hub n Spoke: Exploring Four Potential Expansion Possibilities for The Case Of Feeding, Healing and Educating The Rural Poor School Children of India. Presented by: Sameer Prasad, Ph.D. Professor When: Wednesday, September 17, 204 Where: 5:45 Registration/Networking 6:15 Dinner 7:00 Program $00 per RAKE member $10 per non-member $00 per full-time student Infusino s Banquet Hall 3201 Rapids Drive Racine, Wisconsin Infusino s Banquet Hall, Racine Presentation: Operation strategy has relevance in the nonprofit sector. As part of our hub n spoke development project in India, we are looking at expansion. There are multiple strategic COMMUNICATOR A Monthly Publication of the Racine/Kenosha APICS options for expansion. Specifically, four types of expansions are being considered, including: 1. Expanding the network of hamlet schools from 6 to Expanding the number of children in our hub hostel (grades 6-10) from 48 to 75 children. 3. Hire additional staff members 4. Providing primary health care to children in the hamlets currently served. We will examine all the four options. Some of the key questions that need to be answered include future demand, capital/funding, breakeven points, economies of scale/scope, distribution/location, and timing. Based on our discussion in the dinner meeting culled, we will generate recommendations for strategic capacity expansion (none, one, multiple approaches, timing and costs). Join an interactive and fun presentation. Here are some links to review before the meeting to make it more interactive. 4DF4-B1FD-4CD9BB8CAD3A/ 4B5E-9B5B-8F5ABB467C12/

7 7 Communicator APICS Learn It Midwesterners Preparing for Tough Propane Season After a brutal winter left many without heat, propane suppliers around the United States are preparing for spikes and irregular demand as customers seek to avoid a repeat performance, Reuters reports. Last winter, large parts of the country were forced to ration, pay record high prices, and face reduced farming productivity as propane distributors struggled to deliver fuel. As a result, consumers are buying more and buying earlier. Download the free APICS Learn It app to access more than 4,500 terms and definitions from the APICS Dictionary, view the term of the day, and improve your APICS vocabulary with a game of flashcards. Over 4,500 terms and definitions from the APICS Dictionary Term of the day Offline access no Internet connection needed to use Suggestions are displayed as you search for terms Propane is the main fuel source for rural areas that don t have access to natural gas pipelines. It s used not just to heat homes but is a major contributor to farming throughout the Midwest. While another polar vortex is not expected this season, a record corn crop and elevated drying season could eat into propane reserves before the start of winter. Propane users are at the mercy of an unstable supply system that depends on door-to-door deliveries, competition for infrastructure with larger oil and natural gas markets, and an international market that is pulling more propane away from the United States. Unlike with oil, there are no government restrictions on propane exports and no state-run emergency reserves. (From APICS E-NEWS)
