3 Background NJDOT s LRS Overview All roadway inventory and attribute information contained in Straight Line Diagram (SLD) database

4 Background NJDOT s LRS Overview SLD data is linear referenced on route based New Jersey Roadway Network (NJRN) Standard Route Identifier (SRI) assigned to all public routes

5 Background NJDOT History 1990 s - NJDOT manages MGE based centerline file 2001 NJDOT creates single centerline fully GIS enabled routebased network (NJRN) Local Road Inventory project adds all public roads to NJRN 2005 NJRN enhanced to include dual centerlines

6 Background NJOIT History 2001 Office of GIS (OGIS) created New Jersey s Enhanced Road Centerline Data 2003 Acquires third-party roadway data to support various statewide initiatives 2010 Need for single statewide network for extended NJ GIS user community. Catalysts: Increasing costs and restrictions related to third-party data use NJDOT Buy-In Enhanced Road Centerline (ECR) network created via Centerline Conflation Project

8 Background Centerline Conflation Project 18-month project completed in 2013 NJRN used as starting point Information conflated from US Census (TIGER), counties, localities and MOD-IV (NJ s statewide tax system).

17 Challenges Challenge #1: Re-syncing NJ Roadway Network & ERC The Problem NJRN & ERC data are out of sync The Cause Due to other ongoing projects, NJRN data could not be frozen for the entire duration of the Conflation Project The Result Both the NJRN & ERC are still being maintained separately. The Solution Increasing ERC data maintenance production
