Attributes What is an Attribute A piece of information that determines the properties of a field or tag in a database or a string of characters in a display. Examples of attributes at TxDOT: The number of lanes open to traffic along a length of highway The number of vehicles that travel along a length of highway How Many Attributes With the help of District roadway inventory coordinators, TPP - Data Management maintains 00+ attributes along 313,656 miles of roads in Texas. Where is the Data Stored Geospatial Roadway Inventory Database (GRID) GRID is the Data Warehouse for federally reported GIS linework and attributes Problems Associated with Attributes? Should be clearly defined and accessible to users Reviewed and updated regularly Change frequently along a route Requires location Open Data Portal ID Posted Speed From DFO To DFO
Locations How do you Determine Location? TPP Data Management uses construction plans, aerial photography, and GPS to manage GIS linework Latitude/Longitude values are the underlying base reference Distance from Origin (DFO) values are calculated based on feature length X,Y X,Y X,Y X,Y X,Y X,Y X,Y GIS linework is passed to GRID where users manage Linear Referencing Systems (LRS) and 00+ attributes Control Section Reference Marker
Systems Attributes and Locations Define Systems Attributes and roadway locations are used to highlight different parts of the roadway network. We call them systems but they are simply subsystems of the overall roadway network. Examples of Systems National Highway System Texas Trunk System Hurricane Evacuation Routes Functional Classification System Freight Network Energy Sector Network County Road Network Local Street Network In each instance, a collection of attributes along with roadway location defines when a particular length of roadway participates in a system. Statewide Planning Map 6
Reports Attributes and Locations Summarized At the end of the reporting year, we summarize the full body of attributes and location information into a series of reports. These reports are made available on TxDOT.gov and are the basis for all inventory related public information requests and statewide analysis within the next data year. The federal reporting deadline is June 15 th. Standard Reports Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS), key ingredient for motor fuel tax reimbursements from FHWA Annual Reports (PDF and GIS Version) Multi-Year Roadway Data Tables (Excel Version) County Road Inventory Interesting Facts for 016 On System Off System Total State Rank Centerline Miles 80,483 33,17 313,656 1 st Lane Miles 195, , ,919 1 st Daily Truck VMT 68,778,65 7,751,175 76,59,800 1 st Daily VMT 537,150,365 04,005, ,155,38 nd Annual Reports 7

Applications Applications allow users to visualize and query Attributes, Locations, and Systems Think of applications as the finish line. All the work by Districts and TPP Data Management maintaining the roadway inventory attributes, locations, and systems is put to use in applications. Applications Available to the Public: Statewide Planning Map Open Data Portal ArcGIS Online Project Tracker 9
Applications Project Tracker Why does Project Tracker Exist When Senate Bill 140 passed in 011 during the 8nd Legislative Session, the intent was for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to become a more accountable, informative, and transparent agency. To achieve this goal, TxDOT created Project Tracker, a website for the general public and stakeholders to track TxDOT transportation projects. Where does Project Tracker get Data Design and Construction Information System (DCIS) Primavera (P6) Site Manager PeopleSoft ArcGIS Online (AGO) *** If data is incorrect in Project Tracker it s also incorrect in the parent system *** Key Points Project scores and locations are updated weekly Control Section Job based (CSJ, not CCSJ) 1,000+ Projects in the system Available to the public 10
