2 Geotechnical Engineering Report SRQ Airport Runway Incursion Mitigation Manatee County, Florida September 22, 2016 Terracon Project No. HC Item Existing improvements Current ground cover Existing topography Description An airport with asphalt paved taxiways and runways Asphalt Pavement Based on the USGS Topographic Map for Bradenton, FL, dated 1994, the site appears to be at an elevation of approximately +25 feet-ngvd. 2.0 SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS 2.1 Soil Survey The Soil Survey of Manatee County, Florida (i.e. Soil Survey), issued April 1983 and published by the Soil Conservation Service (U.S. Department of Agriculture), was reviewed to determine the surficial soil map units at this site. The soil survey, which is shown on Exhibit A-2 in Appendix A, indicates the site is mapped with Soil Unit 20, EauGallie fine sand. EauGallie fine sand is comprised of nearly-level, poorly drained soil in broad areas of flatwoods. The typical soil profile consists of fine sand to a depth of 42 inches and underlain by loamy fine sand to a depth of 65 inches. Additionally, there is a layer of black, organic coated fine sand with an organic content of 2 to 8 percent at depths ranging from 28 to 42 inches bgs. Under natural (pre-development) conditions, the Seasonal High Groundwater Table (SHGWT) is reported to lie at a depth of less than 10 inches below the land surface (bgs) for 2 to 4 months of the year. It should be noted that the Soil Survey is not intended as a substitute for site-specific geotechnical exploration; rather it is a useful tool in planning a project scope in that it provides information on soil types likely to be encountered. 2.2 Field Exploration Description The subsurface conditions of the site were explored with four (4) asphalt pavement cores and subsequent hand auger borings. The asphalt was cored using an electric machine with a 6-inch diameter barrel. Asphalt cores retrieved from the barrel were labeled and transported to our laboratory for thickness measurements. The core holes were drilled to a maximum depth of about 4 ½ feet bgs using hand turned bucket-type augering equipment. Grab samples of the pavement base and subgrade materials were collected from the auger bucket, placed in labeled glass jars, and transported to our laboratory for visual-manual classification by a geotechnical engineer. The boreholes were backfilled with soil cuttings and capped with about 6-inches of cold mix asphalt patch. Responsive Resourceful Reliable 2

Stratification boundaries on the boring logs represent the approximate location of changes in soil types; in-situ, the transition between materials may be gradual. 4 Geotechnical Engineering Report SRQ Airport Runway Incursion Mitigation Manatee County, Florida September 22, 2016 Terracon Project No. HC Groundwater The depth to the groundwater was measured in the borings during drilling and was at about 4 feet bgs. It should be noted that the groundwater measurements can be influenced by the drilling process and ambient weather conditions which have been seasonably wet. A shallow water table condition should be considered for general planning, design, and construction purposes. 3.0 GENERAL COMMENTS The information presented in this report is based upon the data obtained from the boring performed at the indicated locations and from other information discussed in this report. This report does not reflect variations that may occur between borings, across the site, or due to the modifying effects of construction or weather. The nature and extent of such variations may not become evident until during or after construction. If variations appear, we should be immediately notified so that further evaluation and supplemental recommendations can be provided. The scope of services for this project does not include either specifically or by implication any environmental or biological (e.g., mold, fungi, and bacteria) assessment of the site or identification or prevention of pollutants, hazardous materials or conditions. If the owner is concerned about the potential for such contamination or pollution, other studies should be undertaken. This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of our client for specific application to the project discussed and has been prepared in accordance with generally accepted geotechnical engineering practices. No warranties, express or implied, are intended or made. Site safety, excavation support, and dewatering requirements are the responsibility of others. In the event that changes in the nature, design, or location of the project as outlined in this report are planned, the conclusions and recommendations contained in this report shall not be considered valid unless Terracon reviews the changes and either verifies or modifies the conclusions of this report in writing.
