2 THE ORCHARD THEATRE was officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent on Thursday 14 April 1983 and has since established itself as one of the South East s premier theatre venues. Designed to be flexible to enable it to stage everything from large West End musicals, to drama, orchestral concerts, comedy and hospitality and cabaret events using the flat floor configuration, the venue also included the first specially designed acoustic ceiling in Britain for music, drama and conferences. During the years has welcomed some of the best entertainers including the iconic actor David Essex, English Tenor Alfie Boe, Joan Collins and comedy legends Lenny Henry, Ken Dodd and Norman Wisdom. The theatre also offers first class hospitality, including The Restaurant, which is becoming increasingly popular for pre show dining, where it offers a great ambiance, delicious food and a welcoming team. To celebrate the theatre s 30th anniversary in 2013, a number of events were organised to mark this very special occasion, including a star studded gala, a community show and a display highlighting the wonderful range of starstudded pantomimes hosted by the theatre over the years. The programme encompasses big West End musicals, plays, comedy and of course the annual pantomime is always the centre piece of the programme, attracting a big name cast. The Theatre is building a reputation for launching new productions prior to national tours or West End transfers with recent premieres including Derren Brown, Save the Last Dance, Boogie Nights and Bill Wyman. HQ Theatres & Hospitality is the UK s second largest regional theatre and concert hall operator. 3 JOB DECSRPITION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION ASSISTANT FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER Principal place of work: Reporting to: : Purpose of the post: Direct Reports:, Dartford (OTD) Front of House Manager (FHM) Under the management of HQ Theatres, OTD presents over 300 live performances each year providing first class entertainment and hospitality, and an exceptional experience for all audiences. Assist the FHM in the management of all aspects of service by staff members and volunteers to the Theatre s customers of all kinds external, internal, trade and stakeholders so that all achieve and surpass agreed service targets, standards and objectives. Hospitality Team Leaders Volunteer Ushers Hospitality Team (indirectly reporting) Main Duties and Responsibilities: Assisting the FHM with the development and management of a customer services training programme for OTD staff, in line with HQ Theatres policies, ensuring maximum involvement, with appropriate standard andtarget-setting, and review. Responsibility for the effective supervision of all front of house staff for all events and performances. To act as the venue s primary Duty Manager; working daytimes, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Liaison with Visiting Company and Tour Managers as required as part of the show duty management responsibilities. Customer liaison whilst on duty in show mode and also through written and telephone communication. Management of procedures to ensure that all front of house areas are kept clean and tidy at all times and that regular checks of public areas are undertaken and findings acted upon. Ensure a welcoming environment and ambience is created at all times by means of cleanliness, tidiness, correct music, lighting and heating, wherever possible, within the constraints of the venue. Support the Team Leaders and Hospitality Team to maximise income on all areas front of house, including inhouse and touring merchandise. To assist the Front of House Manager and Hospitality General Manager with induction, training, motivation and performance management of the Volunteers, Team Leaders and Hospitality Team. Completion of an internal briefing and show report system, as required by the Front of House Manager. Administration relating to the post, as required. Including, but not limited to, sales data collection, input and analysis, reporting, banking collation and creation of basic signage for retail promotions.

4 To adhere to and carry out emergency and evacuation procedures including all relevant training, drills and briefings. Responsibility, when on duty, of all staff, volunteers, public and contractors to ensure their safety at all times. Management of keys and issuing, so as to ensure the safety and security of the OTD s buildings, effects and personnel. Management of cash handling procedures, banking and reconciliation of all front of house income. Ensure the public operations conform to all appropriate legal and regularity controls and measures which are related to any area of the post holder s accountabilities. Willingness to undertake appropriate training and development as required. The post holder will dress in accordance with OTD s dress code. During quieter periods, the AFOHM will be expected to undertake additional duties, including, but not limited to, assisting with ticket sales, assisting with internal and external promotional activities, additional administration duties. Any other related duties and responsibilities as may reasonably, from time to time, be required by the FHM, Hospitality General Manager or Theatre Director. Person Specification Essential Experience of managing a team and to work as part of a team. A passion for delivering excellent customer service. Evidence of managing a large number of members of the public. Literacy, computer literacy and numeracy appropriate to the requirements of the post. Understanding of Health and Safety legislation pertaining to a public building. High level communication skills and excellent manner when dealing with the public, stakeholders and industry colleagues. Excellent spoken and written English. An ability to be flexible to business needs and to understand the vision, values and objectives of the venue. Available to work daytimes, evenings, weekends and bank holidays as and when required. An ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure. Enthusiasm for live theatre and entertainment. A good sense of humour. Desirable First Aid Certificate. Knowledge of fire evacuation procedures. Knowledge of ticketing systems.

5 HOURS OF WORK AND SALARY SALARY Circa 19,000 HOURS OF WORK 35 hours per week, hours will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
