3 ROLE SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND DSU seeks a Societies Coordinator to work within our busy Membership Services department. This post will be instrumental in supporting the various student-run societies within our cultural, religious and belief categories. We expect to see increases in the profile of these student-led societies and an increase in numbers of students participating. Experience of working within the voluntary / community sector is preferred and the commitment to personal and social development of others is essential. Experience of supervising volunteers and the delivery of training are advantageous. Health and safety within this area will also be a prime responsibility, including oversight of guest speakers, as will the supervision of volunteers and organisation of activities, particularly around culture, faith and belief. 4 JOB SPECIFICATION Job title: Department: Salary: Hours of Work: Responsible to: Supervision: Purpose of Post: Societies Coordinator (Cultural, Religious and Belief) Volunteer and Societies 18,549-22,029 per annum 37 hours per week Fixed term for twelve months from start date Volunteer and Societies Manager Mentors and Mentees Working under the direction of the Volunteer and Societies Manager, to support the co-ordination of society activity, particularly within the cultural, religious and belief societies. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To assist the Volunteer and Societies Manager to maintain existing membership, involvement and participation and encourage new engagement within all cultural and religious and belief societies. To ensure societies adhere to constitutional requirements for the appropriate running of their group and to report back any issues to the Volunteer and Societies Manager. To maintain a sound and up to date understanding of all relevant legislation, including researching and advising on the legal requirements relating to the safe operation of student-led activities To be responsible for researching relevant guest speakers put forward by societies, to determine whether or not they need to be referred To liaise with University departments and local groups, enabling students to develop their skills, knowledge and experience increase the profile of DMU students in the community To provide appropriate support and guidance to students to set up societies To work alongside the relevant Elected Officers to support the preparation and delivery of new opportunities and relevant training. To be responsible for collating and reporting on participation statistics, to conduct feedback surveys, focus groups and other evaluation methods and complete appropriate reports as directed by the Volunteer and Societies Manager To oversee risk assessments for relevant society and volunteering events To support the administering of budget allocations as directed by the Volunteer and Societies Manager and to maintain relevant society self-funding accounts.
5 To oversee administrative systems for health and safety, including activity specific risk assessments and appropriate audit checks. To support the organisation of key events during the year including Freshers, international welcome week, the annual celebration events and other Membership Services collaborative events as directed by the Volunteer and Societies Manager. If qualified, to act as a minibus driver when required to support participants of volunteering and support the Sports Development Coordinator to ensure all drivers are trained through the recognised procedure. To collaboratively work with all functions within the Membership Services department. Act as a DBS counter signatory for the Students Union. To cover the Volunteering Office in the absence of other personnel. Any other associated or similar duties that may be necessary from time to time as determined by the Volunteer and Societies Manager.
