7 Global footprint With a global footprint covering 70 countries, the Weir Group has 37 manufacturing facilities and over 100 service facilities around the world. Our operations are split across three divisions: Weir Minerals Weir Minerals is the global leader in the provision of slurry handling equipment and associated spare parts for abrasive high-wear applications used in mining, as well as in the niche oil sands and flue gas desulphurisation markets. The division is present in key mining markets, including South and North America, Australia and Africa. Weir Oil & Gas Weir Oil & Gas designs and manufactures pumps and ancillary equipment for global upstream and downstream oil and gas markets. It also provides substantial aftermarket service and support activities. The division s principal operations are in North America, Europe and the Middle East. Weir Power & Industrial Weir Power & Industrial designs and manufactures specialist and critical-service rotating and flow control equipment for the global power sector. The division includes valve operations, renewable energy solutions, a specialist pump business and substantial service and aftermarket operations. Facilities are located in Europe, North America, China, Middle East, India and South Africa.
8 Driving growth the Weir Way The ongoing success of the Weir Group is underpinned by a group-wide philosophy of operational excellence, customer focus and people development. 9 A critical feature of the Weir Way is our commitment to doing business at all times in an ethical and transparent manner doing it right. Our Code of Conduct sets out what is expected of all employees so that they always maintain the highest standards of integrity. In short, it ensures that we live our values wherever we work. The Weir Group organises and participates in a number of corporate responsibility and sustainability activities every year. These include: In the Netherlands Weir Minerals is one of the major sponsor partners for a running event that attracted 9,000 runners in 2010, including 8 teams of Weir employees. It also entered a team of 20 in the Ride for the Roses cycling against cancer fundraising event. In South Africa Weir Minerals has committed to ongoing financial support for a non-profit organisation that works to ensure the wellbeing of orphaned children in a township close to its Isando factory. It also makes an annual donation to support a selfhelp scheme for disabled children. In India Weir is supporting education programmes for children of employees at its Bangalore and Hubli units. It has committed to supporting 10 children for higher studies for two years, and to helping a further six children secure admission to engineering courses for four years.
10 What do we offer and where could you work? Our two-year Graduate Development Framework offers exceptional opportunities for progression within the field of Engineering, as well as other businesscritical professional disciplines such as Operations, Finance, Sales and Marketing, HR and IT. It is open to university graduates worldwide, as well as to existing Weir Group employees with relevant graduate qualifications and Internship students who return to us as graduates. You can join us to take advantage of in-depth training and development in either a specialist technical or general business field. As well as providing extensive personal mentoring and coaching, we will schedule regular performance reviews to ensure that you are on track to achieve all your goals. The varied placement opportunities that you experience are likely to include some out of business opportunities, which are designed to foster greater understanding of the bigger picture affecting all of our work. Your placements could potentially include overseas postings within Weir operations around the world. 11 Internships Internships are available throughout the Weir Group. They are designed to provide you with an excellent opportunity to work alongside professionals in a variety of disciplines for up to 12 months while you are part-way through your degree course. Working alongside Weir employees in locations around the world will help you develop real-life skills and experience that will give you a head-start in your chosen career. And, of course, you ll be earning as you re learning.

Within the past year, Dineo has been involved with all of the company s current HR projects, and has even been given some to champion herself. Based in Isando, she is part of a lively working environment that sees everyone pulling together to get work done. Dineo is pleased with the personal mentoring and guidance she has received to date and is now looking forward to further developing her emerging passion for Learning and Development within the general HR function. Richard wanted to work for a large, successful and global organisation because he knew that would offer opportunities for a variety of work to help him gain valuable experience. As well as a high level of training, mentoring and development, he was also looking for a company that would help him to gain chartered status in his chosen discipline. During his first few months with Weir, he has been learning how the engineering department functions and how it interacts with the other departments within the organisation. Going forward, he is keen to demonstrate project responsibility as he aspires to a more senior departmental position in the future. Brittany was keen to join a company focused on growth and which also offered challenging opportunities. She likes the fact that people do not feel intimidated to ask questions of anyone, at any level, within Weir. Alongside learning the importance of Cost Accounting, Brittany has also job shadowed throughout different departments to obtain an appreciation of inter-departmental relationships. One such placement in the manufacturing facility enabled her to get a better understanding of Weir products. She now represents the Finance department on a committee focused on the integration of a newly acquired company and product line.
21 Name: Fernando Tirollo Division: Weir Minerals Location: Brazil Discipline: Operations Name: Luca Carbonino Division: Weir Oil & Gas Location: Italy Discipline: Engineering Name: Vinay Sharma Division: Weir Minerals Location: India Discipline: Engineering Fernando believes in choosing a solid career path and in seizing every opportunity that comes his way. He was drawn to Weir because of its track record of growth, as well as the excellent opportunities offered within the Graduate Development Framework. He started out by working on the Hero line of pumps and is now developing new project proposals. Inbetween, he has also learned about operational system Protheus and how Weir implements the principles of Lean manufacturing group-wide. Fernando is now targeting a commercial role and a managerial position in the future maybe even at board level. Luca feels that Weir has given him an excellent platform to develop not only his technical skills as a mechanical engineer, but also the soft skills that are essential in the global market today. He is very impressed by the friendly and helpful Weir culture and has acquired strong knowledge in several areas of the business. Over the past year, Luca has been working mainly as a research & development engineer, where his duties have included technical analysis, troubleshooting on pumps, and new hydraulic design development. He has also collaborated with the sales department in the selection of pumps and the preparation of technical offers. Joining Weir, a well-known name with a rich history and diversified business activities, was an easy choice for Vinay. The group s worldwide presence provides him with the opportunity to experience many different, multicultural working environments. His cross-functional role exposure over the past few months has helped him appreciate the complications of different requirements and the need for progressive problem-solving techniques. He has also realised the immense implications of decisions or design, and the importance of team coordination and communication. Now he s working on developing his skills both as an engineer and a leader.
22 How do you apply? Applying couldn t be easier. You can even do it online. We re ready when you are... Opportunities are continuously posted within the Current vacancies section of our website: Simply search in the region you re interested in and you could soon be joining one of the fastest growing engineering solutions companies in the FTSE 100. Specific application and recruitment processes may vary slightly from country to country, depending on circumstances. However, you can generally expect the following: Step 1: Apply online, attaching your CV and sending your application to the address of the relevant local HR team. Step 2: Your CV will be screened by the local hiring manager and HR team and a short-list of applicants will be selected. Step 3: You will be invited to sit an online personality test, followed by a locally arranged technical and competency based interview. Step 4: We will select the successful applicant and make a conditional offer of employment (subject to confirmation of academic results, if required). 25 FAQ s In this section you can find the answers to some of the frequently asked questions (FAQ s) that we receive. What do we mean when we say graduate? If you are currently studying for, or hold, a bachelor s, master s or doctorate qualification, you are eligible to apply to join the Weir Graduate Development Framework. Will the Weir Group support my academic and professional development? We will encourage continued professional development and help you obtain full membership of your respective professional institution. Many of our employees are supported through higher education and you may receive some financial help, but it will depend on how your studies will benefit both you and the Weir Group. Is the Weir Group a responsible company with a good record on sustainability issues? As a global company that exists to deliver excellence in engineering, we are dedicated to doing business in a responsible way and to adopting best practice in terms of sustainability. We also organise a number of educational and community initiatives as part of our ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR). Will the Weir Group help me obtain permission to work in the region that I choose? We are unable to employ anyone who does not have the legal right to live and work in a particular country. If you need further information, please contact the relevant government agency for that country. During the recruitment process, all candidates are required to provide the necessary right to work information and documentation. What is the closing date for applications? Closing dates vary by region. Check our website at and select the region you are interested in this will state the relevant closing date for applications. Can I make more than one application? No, you can only apply for one position in one region during one recruitment cycle. I m thinking of taking a year out after university. Can I delay my start with the Weir Group? This is not ideal and we would prefer that you join us in the year that you apply to join the Graduate Development Framework. I applied last year. Can I apply again? Yes. If you feel that you are in a better position to apply and your CV has subsequently improved, then we would like you to re-apply. What if I am on holiday on the interview dates? We will usually offer you alternative days, but sometimes this is not possible. Will I receive feedback on my application? Feedback will not be given on an individual basis, unless you are invited to an interview. How much will I get paid? As a global organisation, starting salaries and subsequent payment structures vary by region and location. However, be assured that the complete package offered will be competitive. Do you offer financial sponsorship? We do not sponsor university students. However, if you join us on an internship and are then accepted onto our Graduate Development Framework, we may offer you a final year bursary. What can I expect the dress code to be? This depends on where you work. It varies from Weir-branded work wear to standard business wear. Will you help me relocate? We offer information and guidance on local accommodation at most of our main locations, but no financial assistance. Can you help me find somewhere to live? Most of our main locations keep information on local accommodation. For internships, we will try and make arrangements with a local college or university for your short-term accommodation needs. At what stage of my degree should I apply for a summer internship? In at least your second year of study, and you must still be studying ie, not finished your degree. Summer internship placements are typically weeks long. I am an undergraduate in my first year. Can I apply for an internship? We are looking for candidates in at least their second year of study, and you must still be studying ie, not finished your degree. Internship placements are either 6 months or 12 months long. How can I join the Weir Group if I feel that I am not suited to the Graduate Development Framework? We offer other opportunities for you to join the Weir Group.
