1 VENTURA COUNTY, PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR: Survey Technician III 1926PWA-AA16 (KP) An Equal Opportunity Employer SALARY RANGE (approximate) $ $31.12 Hour $3, $5, Monthly $46, $64, Annually This posting is for the Ventura County Public Works Agency; vacancy location is Ventura and may require travel throughout Ventura County. POSITION INFORMATION Under general supervision, operates instruments and software programs, performs technical field and office survey and mapping activities of above average difficulty; performs survey computations and adjustments; conducts research projects based on survey data; assists the public in accessing and interpreting surveyor's records; and performs related work as required. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in land surveying in both field and office; is familiar with various types of surveying equipment, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Office Suite, and processing/adjustment software such as Leica Geo Office, StarNet, etc. This candidate will be self-motivated, adaptable, organized, efficient, and willing to learn; communicate well both orally and in writing; and work well in a team setting. EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency exam with a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher. AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Public Works Agency - Engineering Services Department Survey Technician III is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is eligible for overtime compensation. NOTE: This classification is within a bargaining unit that is subject to an agency shop arrangement which mandates a Regular employee to either join Local 721 of SEIU and pay dues as a member OR either pay a service fee to Local 721 or direct that an amount equivalent to the service fee be distributed to a qualified charitable organization. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OPENING DATE: September 22, 2016 CLOSING DATE: October 11, 2016 APPLICATION REVIEW COMPLETE: On or before October 12, 2016 WRITTEN EXAM: October 20, 2016 CERTIFICATION OF NAMES: On or before October 24, 2016 SELECTION INTERVIEWS: Week of October 31, 2016 SELECTION NOTICES: Week of November 3, 2016 Examples Of Duties: Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Acts as an assistant in a field survey party, operates total stations, levels, GPS receivers, and other instruments. Performs various technical calculations such as horizontal curves, vertical curves, traverse adjustments and bench level adjustments and check survey field notes to verify conformity and accuracy of dimensions. Conducts research of survey and mapping material such as maps, construction drawings, right-of-way drawings, deeds, title reports, and survey field notes. Maintains records and prepares correspondence. Provides service at the surveyor's public counter to locate, interpret and provide copies of records. Prepares maps, exhibits, and survey field notes using AutoCAD Civil 3D. Checks maps, exhibits, and other survey documents for completeness, mathematical accuracy, and compliance with County policies and standard practices. Prepares data for computer processing. Writes drafts of property legal descriptions. Acts as Chief of Party on a survey crew during the absence of regularly assigned Chief of Party. Uses software to calculate and adjust surveys. Performs other related duties as required. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS These are entrance requirements to the exam process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list. EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE Extensive experience in land surveying which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The required knowledge, skills and abilities can be obtained by at least four years of surveying and/or mapping experience, two years of which must have been at the level of Survey Technician II. Completion of an Associate of Arts degree in civil engineering or surveying technology OR 24 units of land surveying or other related subjects or possession of a California Land- Surveyor-in-Training Certificate may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the total required experience.

3 NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid California driver license. Supplemental Information: Work is performed both in an office environment and outdoors. Incumbents may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks during the course of completing regular job assignments, including the handling of material weighing up to 60 pounds and the carrying of instruments weighing up to 50 pounds over rough terrain and up and down ladders. Applicants successfully completing the exam process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Applicants may be subjected to a thorough background investigation which may include inquiry into past employment, education, criminal background information, and driving record.
