1 About Whyville May 2004 Whyville.net is the leading web-based educational community for children aged 9 to 15, with more than 750,000 registered users logging 40 million page views per month to interact, have fun, and explore topics in science, economics, and citizenship. They become part of Whyvilleʼs vibrant community by creating avatarbased personas and earning virtual clam salaries based on their participation in educational activities. With the clams they earn, they improve their avatars by purchasing face parts. They design, build, and decorate their virtual homes, and even go into business themselves. Whyville also offers multi-player games such as Mancala and ion football, community events like Spring Proms and Senate Elections. Our weekly newspaper, The Whyville Times, contains articles written by the citizens on town issues as well as world events.
