Employees in this class provide casework services to needy, aged, sick, handicapped, institutionalized, or dependent adults and children to help them attain a more satisfactory social, economic, emotional, or physical adjustment. Work ofthis class is distinguished from that ofthe next lower level by its minor supervisory nature. Work involves responsibility for supervising and training a small group of lower level caseworkers and/or caseworker trainees, in addition to carrying a caseload, and may include the responsibility for administering a small autonomous social services program; or work may involve responsibility, as administrator or officially designated assistant to the administrator, for a specialized program or definitive major program area, requiring either supervisionofa small subordinate staff or extensive direct client contact. Work is reviewed by an Administrative supervisor through conferences and evaluation ofreports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Supervises and trains lower level caseworkers, caseworker trainees or other subordinates. Administers a small autonomous social services program, such as within an institution or unit ofan institution representing a significant portion ofthe patient population. Assumes responsibility for a complex segment ofthe social services program such as community placement and follow-up, including planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating.
3 Provides casework and counseling services to clients and members oftheir families to aid them in achieving a more satisfactory adjustment to specific problems or situations ofa difficult or complex nature. Motivates clients, patients, or inmates to develop and make use oftheir own potential for meeting social, health, emotional and economic problems; works in close cooperative with other social agencies, and encourages the clients to utilize hospitals, clinics, courts and other community resources in meeting their needs. Makes reports, prepares correspondence, prepares social studies and keeps necessary records. Participates in an on-call rotation to assist on-call caseworker with complex cases, call out additional caseworkers as needed, approve safety plans, and approve detentions. Practice utilizing trauma informed care principles. Performs related work as required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge ofthe basic principles and methods ofprogram interpretation and community organization. Some knowledge ofbasic principles of supervision and in-service training. Ability to work effectively with people and aid them to grow in the constructive use oftheir potential in adjusting to their specific problems. Ability to evaluate work ofsubordinates and to provide technical assistance and guidance. Ability to orient and instruct subordinates on procedures, techniques, laws and regulations.
4 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other member of the staff, outside agencies and institutions, and the general public. Ability to clearly express ideas orally and in writing. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will supervise lower level caseworkers, caseworker trainees, and/or other subordinates. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Two years' experience as a Butler County Merit System Children 8c Youth caseworker; or Bachelor's Degree from a four year college or university with a social welfare major or related social science degree such as psychology, gerontology, education, or criminal justice; and three years' professional social casework experience in a public or private social service provider agency with at least one year ofsupervisory experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety ofconcrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety ofinstructions fiimished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts ofbasic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions fiimished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
