From our Urban Innovation Centre in London, we provide world-class facilities and expertise to support the development of new products and services, as well as opportunities to collaborate with others, test ideas and develop business models. We help innovators turn ingenious ideas into working prototypes that can be tested in real urban settings. Then, once they're proven, we help spread them to cities across the world to improve quality of life, strengthen economies and protect the environment. So what s it about? The EU Funding Manager will play a key role in identifying and obtaining funding streams for the Future Cities Catapult related to or stemming from the European Commission and EU funding channels. This role will be working in the Business Development, Stakeholder Relations and Communications team, and will involve collaboration with colleagues in all areas of the Catapult from where input to bid submissions is required (provision of content from technical experts, finance and corporate services team etc). This role is supported by a fulltime Funding and EU Projects Coordinator.

2 What will you be doing? Responsibilities Directly contribute to 4m of external income secured by year end by wider team managed by Chief Business Officer Oversee and continue to evolve the Future Cities Catapult s strategy for engagement in EU projects and with the European Commission structures, including providing recommendations to management team on our approach to EU work Manage process to identify potential funding streams from the European Commission, and other European funding sources Coordinate the development and submission of agreed Future Cities Catapult bid contributions including the below. Some of these bids will have Future Cities Catapult in a coordinating role: o Identify opportunities to bid for EU funding, including through Horizon 2020 and other EU programmes, and work with the team to assess priorities and targets for bid submissions Identify and maintain a pipeline of bid opportunities, likelihood and assess whether organisational resources are available to grasp opportunities be ready for the ones that drop at the last minute Analyse and explain bid concepts, aid interpretation of bid requirements, and prepare points of clarification with funders to ensure each bid is structured in conformity with the bid requirements Help identify and build consortia to best respond to specific priority bids and ensure partners active contribution to the bid-writing process Coordinate development and submission of specific bids on behalf of Future Cities Catapult including developing workplans (including roles and responsibilities) and bid budgets, tracking and managing risks, identifying and compiling all relevant documentation, arranging external review, and completing administrative aspects of bid submission engaging colleagues as appropriate, and coordinating all technical inputs to bid submissions Update relevant Future Cities Catapult staff on bid process including risks and opportunities Identify appropriate external agencies where additional support is required for specific bids, secure necessary resource, engage and manage their input Coordinate Future Cities Catapult response during the negotiation period following successful bid submission, and effectively manage the transition process from bid to project delivery To ensure colleagues across the Future Cities Catapult become aware of funding opportunities related to their specific work programmes, and are aware of the Catapult s capacity for bid writing and consortia development to carefully manage the flow of bid writing deadlines across the Catapult throughout the year. To represent Future Cities Catapult in senior EU meetings and events in Europe (often in Brussels), and to network with relevant stakeholders in Brussels and within European networks. The aim is to build Future Cities Catapult visibility within the European Commission, and build our brand as a trusted partner to deliver projects

3 Maintain productive links with key stakeholders from the UK (e.g. Innovate UK) In conjunction with colleagues and bid partners, to capture learnings from the process and feed back to future bid submission processes. To support Future Cities Catapult strategy and operational model by ensuring correct processes for EU bidding and project management are in place and used (e.g. rates and budget development, templates, etc.) What will the first year outcomes of your role be? Outcomes are what you need to accomplish in your role. We think it is always useful to know these before you start. These are not all the outcomes you will be expected to achieve, but are some of the primary ones: Bid identification Establish and maintain system to identify relevant EU and other funding opportunities, matched to Future Cities Catapult priorities, and potential partners for consortia building to develop bids within 6 months or much less if opportunities arise. Bid completion and submission Within 6 months, identify and oversee the submission of Future Cities Catapult input into up to six EU funding opportunities Within 12 months score of 10 or above out of 15 (or equivalent) for the EU funding proposals submitted where the Future Cities Catapult is leading the bid or has provided strong technical input Internal processes Within the first 3 months: set up and maintain internal systems to ensure relevant support from other Future Cities Catapult teams for successful bid submissions Within the first 3 to 6 months: Input into system to capture and share learning from bid submission process and ensure this is fed back into future bid submission processes Within 6 to 9 months: set up and maintain internal processes (informal and formal) to ensure colleagues are aware of potential funding opportunities related to their own work programmes and can support bid submissions in the most effective manner, as recognised by 75% of your peers Within 12 months: Regularly input into Future Cities Catapult strategy work to ensure EU project bidding is supported by the wider Catapult structure, and provide recommendations to the senior management team on our EU approach at least twice a year Work closely with the SME Programme Lead to set up a strategy for SME engagement in opportunities in which Future Cities Catapult is a partner/coordinator Future Cities Catapult visibility in Brussels Within 9 to 12 months: develop working relationships with key personnel in EC Directorate Generals, the UK representative office and other key networks, and oversee individual meetings with senior personnel for Future Cities Catapult CEO or Board members

4 What kind of person are we looking for? Essential requirements Proven ability to coordinate and write EU bids related to urban development / energy / transport / ICT / citizens and strong success rate with these submissions A track record of relevant successful bid submissions on topics related to urbanisation Proven ability to help build international and multi-stakeholder consortia and ensure their engagement in complex bid submissions Excellent writing and presentation skills Ability to identify and synthesise data and technical information from varied sources and present in appropriate formats for EU bid submissions Understanding of key themes in international urbanisation and/or innovation, grounded in experience working in one or more sectors directly relevant to the work of the Future Cities Catapult Excellent networking and relationship-building skills Demonstrable commitment to innovation in the context of international urbanisation processes Ability to effectively communicate and articulate, both verbally and in writing, in English and at least one other major European language Ability to excel in a rapidly growing, fast-paced organisational setting Desirable Familiarity with the policies and internal procedures of the European Commission and urban-related topics in the EU, potentially through time spent in the European Commission or in organisations in Brussels An established international network, particularly among stakeholders in the European Commission directly relevant to international dimensions of the Future Cities Catapult s mission and work What about our culture?
