The basics Location: Reporting to: Contract: Holiday: Equal Opportunities: Central London (with some travel including Brussels) Funding and EU Project Manager Full time, permanent, with three months probation 25 days per annum, plus statutory holidays. The Funding and EU Projects Coordinator will play a key role in identifying and obtaining funding opportunities for Future Cities Catapult related to or stemming from the European Commission and other EU funding streams. This role will be working in the Collaborative R&D team, within the Business Development unit, and will involve collaboration with colleagues in all areas of the Catapult from where input to bid submissions is required. What will you be doing? Responsibilities Directly contribute to 2.2m of external CR&D income secured by year-end by wider team. Coordinate process to identify potential funding opportunities from European Commission, as well as other funding sources (EU and non-eu). Coordinate the development and submission of agreed Future Cities Catapult bid submissions including: - Identify CR&D opportunities to bid for EU funding, including through the Horizon 2020 and other EU programmes, and work with the team to assess priorities and targets for bid submissions - With team, help identify funding opportunities from non-eu sources 1

2 Analyse and explain bid concepts, aid interpretation of the requirements of the call for proposals, and prepare points of clarification with funders to ensure each bid is structured in conformity with the programme/call requirements. Help identify and build consortia to best respond to specific priority bids and ensure partners active contribution to the bid-writing process. Identify a pipeline of bid opportunities, likelihood and assess whether organisational resources are available to grasp opportunities. Coordinate development and submission of specific bids on behalf of Future Cities Catapult including developing timeframes, work plans (including roles and responsibilities) and budget, tracking and managing risks, identifying and compiling all relevant documentation, arranging external review, and completing administrative aspects of bid submission engaging colleagues as appropriate and coordinating all technical inputs to bid submissions. Update relevant Future Cities Catapult staff on bid process including risks and opportunities. Coordinate Future Cities Catapult response during the negotiation period following successful bid submission, and support establishment of crossorganisational bid delivery team for successful bids. Ensure colleagues across Future Cities Catapult become aware of funding opportunities related to their specific work theme(s), and are familiar with bid development processes in order to be able to support bid writing and budgeting in an effective manner. Network with relevant stakeholders in Brussels and in European networks to build Future Cities Catapult visibility in the European Commission, and build our brand as a trusted partner to deliver projects. In conjunction with colleagues and bid partners, to capture learnings from the process and feed back to future bid submission processes. What will the first year outcomes of your role be? Outcomes are what you need to accomplish in your role. We think it is always useful to know these before you start. These are not all the outcomes you will be expected to achieve, but are some of the primary ones: Bid identification - Establish and maintain processes to identify and prioritize relevant EU and other funding opportunities, matched to Future Cities Catapult priorities, and potential partners for consortia building to develop bids within 6 months Bid completion and submission - Identify and oversee the submission of Future Cities Catapult input into up to six funding opportunities 2

3 - Score of 10 or above out of 15 for the EU funding proposals submitted where the Future Cities Catapult is leading the bid or has provided strong technical input Internal processes - Set up and maintain quality assurance tools and processes for successfully develop a complete bid development cycle (including its administrative aspects) by month 3. - Set up and maintain internal processes (informal and formal) to ensure colleagues are aware of potential funding opportunities related to their own work them(s) and can support bid submissions in the most effective manner, as recognised by 75% of your peers within 9 months - Set up and maintain internal systems to ensure relevant support from Enabling Services team for successful bid submissions, as recognised by Enabling Services team - Set up and maintain system to capture and share learning from bid submission process and ensure this is fed back into future bid submission processes, and show input from peers Future Cities Catapult visibility in Brussels - Develop working relationships with key personnel in at least two most relevant EC Directorate Generals - DGs (e.g. DG CNCT, DG MOVE, DG ENER, DG REGIO, the UK Representative office and other key networks) and oversee individual meetings with senior personnel for Future Cities Catapult CEO or Board members - Establish good working relationship with Innovate UK Brussels operations and use combined resources for maximum effect. What kind of person are we looking for? Essential requirements Proven ability to coordinate and write EU bids related to urban development, energy, transport, ICT and citizens A track record of relevant successful bid submissions on topics related to urbanisation Proven ability to help build international and multi-stakeholder consortia and ensure their engagement in complex bid submissions, including building strong relationships across consortia and communicating bid value to all stakeholders especially researchers Excellent writing and presentation skills Ability to identify and synthesise data and technical information from varied sources and present in appropriate formats for EU bid submissions 3

4 Understanding of key themes in international urbanisation and/or innovation, grounded in experience working in one or more sectors directly relevant to the work of the Future Cities Catapult Excellent networking and relationship-building skills Demonstrable commitment to innovation in the context of international urbanisation processes Ability to effectively communicate and articulate, both verbally and in writing, in English and, desirably, at least one other major European language Ability to excel in a rapidly growing, fast-paced organisational setting Desirable Familiarity with the policies and internal procedures of the European Commission and urban-related topics in the EU, potentially through time spent in the European Commission or in organisations in Brussels An established international network, particularly among stakeholders in the European Commission directly relevant to international dimensions of the Future Cities Catapult s mission and work What about our culture?
