Summary Job Description We are offering an exciting career opportunity to an inspiring and capable fundraiser to enable Blue Ventures rapid expansion across the tropics. This position will involve working on all aspects of Blue Ventures development to secure funding in support of our growing portfolio of conservation programmes. We re looking for a highly-articulate and passionate person, who has a great eye for detail, to join a small team nurturing high-value funding relationships. The focus of the position is on trusts, foundations and statutory fundraising, but will also involve individual donor relationship building. This will be a pivotal role within our UK -based team, working closely with the Head of Development, leadership team, field colleagues and partner organisations to ensure the resourcing of effective, scalable marine conservation interventions in line with our mission. The position will be at the forefront of helping to drive innovation in the marine conservation sector by helping secure resources needed for the ongoing acceleration of our impact in pursuit of our 2020 vision. We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual who will be pragmatic and resourceful, proactive in networking, and entrepreneurial in identifying and nurturing opportunities for potential future conservation funding partnerships. We are looking for someone with excellent partnership development experience, a high degree of emotional intelligence, and sensitivity to the needs and interests of Blue Ventures partner communities and stakeholders.

2 The successful candidate will be an accomplished communicator, demonstrating pithy and eloquent written and verbal communications, a sharp attention to detail, and the ability to promote passionately and convincingly a clear representation of complex environmental and development issues. The successful candidate will thrive in environments that are dynamic, fast-paced, collegiate and ambitious, and have a proven track record of managing competing priorities and expectations to meet deadlines reliably. The role entails working as part of an interdisciplinary and international team, with excellent opportunities for professional development. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Development and will be based in either of our UK offices (in Bristol or London), with occasional overseas travel to work with partners and field teams. Responsibilities Proposal development - Writing and editing high quality narrative content to document Blue Ventures projects, priorities and impact powerfully and succinctly. - Maintaining close interaction with conservation team colleagues to translate programme priorities into clear funding proposals that communicate Blue Ventures work in a compelling way to potential new and existing funders. - Working with Head of Development and programme staff to design project proposals, logframes, timelines and detailed budgets as required. - Incorporating input and learning from field colleagues and partner organisations as necessary throughout the proposal development process. - Leading and coordinating the preparation, internal review and submission of funding applications, and proactive management of the process in a timely manner. Supporting development strategy - Working with Head of Development and Finance Team to map fundraising needs across country programmes and marine conservation models. - Scanning the marine environmental conservation and community development sectors regularly for leads, opportunities and suitable calls for funding applications. - Matching fundraising efforts with Blue Ventures strategic priorities and operating plan. - Ensuring that fundraising efforts reflect the ethical policies of Blue Ventures and comply with all relevant data protection requirements. - Monitoring and managing agreed income targets and expenditure budgets, producing progress reports for leadership team. Donor relationship management - Working closely with the Executive Director, Head of Development and senior programme staff to nurture and maintain strong donor relations and secure renewal of existing funding partnerships as appropriate.

3 - Engaging new potential funding partners through sensitive and pro-active networking and exchange. - Coordinating donor meetings, events and visits with the Executive Director, Head of Development, board, management team, and relevant staff, ensuring these are well organised and productive, with clear briefs, objectives and follow up actions. Championing the mission - Representing Blue Ventures at meetings, conferences and events in the UK and internationally to increase our profile and income in diverse fundraising environments. - Preparing articles, blogs, opinion pieces and other appropriate online content to: - raise awareness of the critical human and biodiversity importance of rebuilding tropical marine fisheries; - raise the profile of Blue Ventures work, mission and impact; and - celebrate the achievements of our partner organisations. Programme review and reporting - Assisting the Head of Development, Conservation Programmes Director and conservation team in reviewing project progress, documenting learning and impact, and reporting to donors. Skills and Experience required Professional - At least two years experience in environmental conservation, international development, public policy, journalism or related field. - Strong understanding of environmental conservation, fisheries management, and/or rural development issues and practice. - Practical field experience in community-based conservation and development. - Proven track record in grant proposal / business procurement writing, budget and logframe preparation. Communications - Outstanding written communication and editing skills, with excellent attention to detail (shortlisted candidates will be asked to sit a written test). - Excellent spoken communication skills and ability to deliver strong presentations. Project and partnership development - Excellent relationship building skills and proven ability to communicate with the highest degree of professionalism. - Sensitivity to partner and community needs and interests; humility and commitment to prioritise and support local capacity development for conservation.

4 Development - Demonstrable experience in identifying, cultivating and maintaining funding relationships with potential and existing donors. - Experience working with and reporting to a range of donors including trusts, foundations, institutions, agencies and corporations. Leadership Other - Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced deadline-intensive work environment. - Dynamic, enthusiastic, highly organised and collaborative team-player. - Right to live and work in the UK. - Excellent attention to detail and IT skills, including fundraising CRM experience.
