Working closely with the Head of International Market Development, you will ensure that programmes are designed, delivered and supported in a manner that supports our Student Education strategy, maximising responsiveness to market opportunity in a way which achieves an appropriate balance in the quality and quantity of our international student intake across all cohorts. 2 Job description Reports to: Pro Vice Chancellor for Student Education Main duties and responsibilities Accountable for the University of Leeds International Foundation Year strategy and development, the role-holder will: Review and lead a refresh of the current in-house International Foundation Year portfolio in order to: - Ensure in-house IFY programmes are attractive, relevant and stimulating for students; - Align in-house IFY programmes to international market requirements. Develop strong relationships with destination schools and faculties to ensure pathway developments reflect and support Student Education strategic priorities. Draw on best practice in pathway development in order to ensure alignment and integration of IFY programmes with destination subjects to deliver market leading programme quality. Work closely with Pro Deans SE, Directors of Student Education, and professional colleagues within the Student Education Service to ensure we maximise the quality of the international student experience, ensuring the Leeds IFY is positioned as a high quality premium pathway option, targeted effectively at specific markets and sponsors. Ensuring efficient and effective management of the Leeds International Foundation Year the role holder will: Be responsible for the arrangements for assuring the quality of the provision of the IFY programmes as well as the academic student experience, including ensuring appropriate responses are made to internal and external reviews, investigating complaints and disciplinary matters Oversee of all aspects of Student Education within the IFY including admissions, induction, examinations, student feedback, retention and progression to level1 and all aspects of student support. Hold responsibility for designated budgets and line management of IFY staff Prepare reports to the Cross-Institution Student Education Committee and participate in relevant University Groups and Committees. Be a member of the International Market Development Team Senior Management Team
3 Providing leadership and co-ordination of Leeds s response to new market opportunities, the role-holder will: Proactively identify opportunities to increase income generation by extending existing or developing new pathway provision, both on and off campus. Provide institutional focus and oversight for the evaluation of new pathway market opportunities, drawing on and co-ordinating input from an appropriate range of Schools and Services. Formulate responses to such opportunities, brokering and configuring campus resource, as appropriate, to meet the multidisciplinary needs of international pathway markets. Work closely with the Director of the Language Centre to ensure that English Language provision is integrated wherever possible as part of pathway developments, whether through in-house or off-shore and/or external provision. Taking holistic oversight of the Leeds pathway portfolio encompassing all provider routes, UK based and overseas, in-house and external, the roleholder will: Ensure complementarity between external pathway activity and in-house provision. Champion approved pathway routes across campus and identify additional opportunities to maximise recruitment via these routes. Supported by professional services, lead engagement with and academic review of external pathway routes to Leeds such as NCUK and Study Group, including oversight of admissions, progression and curriculum matters. Represent Leeds at key partnership meetings. Responsible for representing University of Leeds pathways externally to a range of key stakeholders, the role-holder will: Provide institutional leadership in relationships with key sponsors, particularly in the Gulf and Middle East, developing these relationships to sustain recruitment and ensure Leeds remains first choice destination for funded students. Identify opportunities to raise the profile of Leeds and its pathway routes with external stakeholders and prospective students. Working closely with the International Team, take an active role in promotional activities world-wide, supporting the effective positioning of pathway routes in the market.
4 Under the direction of the PVC SE, the role-holder will develop close and effective partnership working with: professional service colleagues in International, Alumni, and Marketing, to develop a culture of partnership working between academic and service leaders, ensuring effective, integrated support for schools and faculties; the Director of Digital Learning, to ensure an integrated approach to the consideration and development of digital based modes of delivery, where appropriate; the Pro Deans SE, providing academic leadership and informing academic policy with knowledge of pathway developments and opportunities (e.g. collaborative provision, entry requirements, awards, programme development); external international businesses and other relevant organisations, to support co-creation in programme development. 5 Person specification Essential Relevant experience of senior leadership and management roles at a minimum of School or Service level Relevant experience and academic competency in the development of new programmes, including programme/module design and experience of advising and influencing strategic groups on innovative and market led programme development. Experience of having developed and implemented new educational strategies and of communicating and securing commitment to those strategies within and outside direct teams. In-depth knowledge and understanding of issues in international Student Education and recruitment and of trends and developments in international education pathways activity with experience of working with international students and stakeholders. Knowledge of quality assurance of HE programmes and familiarity with a range of educational and delivery methods including online resources in support of blended delivery and partnership collaborations. Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, including in an international context, with experience of engaging effectively with senior leaders, academics and professional managers inside and outside the organisation to balance competing priorities and achieve consensus. Ability to lead cross-institutional projects and work effectively in a range of teams across areas taking shared responsibility for delivering results and of working with external partners/agencies to deliver strategic initiatives Strong critical thinking skills, with the expertise and confidence to challenge accepted practices and influence others to adopt new approaches. Experienced in making judgements and taking informed decisions within area of responsibility, balanced with providing assurance and seeking advice as appropriate from senior colleagues. Experience of representing the organisation externally. Ability to demonstrate excellent cross cultural competencies and a commitment to diversity showing an understanding of the diverse nature of the University s community and a willingness to work with staff, students and visitors from a wide range of backgrounds. Highly developed inter-personal and communication skills including the ability to engage effectively and appropriately with varying constituencies amongst students, University colleagues and external partners; ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly and to influence a diverse range of stakeholders with excellent presentation skills.
