1 Volunteer and Development Co-ordinator Job Description Position: Volunteer and Development Co-Ordinator for The Beonna at All Saints Purpose: To develop the capacity of the Benington Community Heritage Trust (BCHT) to meet the needs of the Beonna project and to lead the recruitment, training and development of volunteers. Also, supporting the delivery of the Business and Action Plans. Responsible to: Centre Manager Responsible for: Developing and maintaining community networks and partnerships, establishing and supporting user groups and overseeing the training programme. Contract Length: 3 years with the possibility of an extension Hours: 36 hours a week Salary: ,000 Holidays: 28 days per annum including bank holidays *Please note that tenders from consultancies will not be considered. This post is advertised as an employment contract and not as a consultancy contract The Beonna Project All Saints is a Grade I listed church located in the village of Benington, 5 miles north of Boston. The earliest part of the building dates from 1200 with additions in the 14 th and 15 th centuries. Major repairs were carried out in the 19 th century under the guidance of the architect James Fowler. This restoration was sensitively done with the result that All Saints remains a largely medieval parish church of national significance. All Saints closed for worship in In 2007 the local residents formed a building preservation trust with the aim of re-opening this much loved building. In 2013 BCHT successfully applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a Stage 1 Development Grant. This Grant enabled BCHT, working with professional advisors, to draw up detailed plans for the development of the Beonna Centre. Plans included: Architectural plans for the restoration and adaptation of the building itself An Activity Plan outlining the kind of activities that would take place at the Beonna A Business Plan detailing how the Beonna would become a self-sustaining business enterprise A Volunteer Recruitment and Management Plan In May 2015 BCHT submitted to the HLF their bid for a Stage 2 Delivery Grant which was obtained in September Additional funding was granted by the Architectural Heritage Fund, the Medlock Trust, the Garfield Weston Foundation and Lincolnshire County Council which meant that BCHT were able to begin work to achieve their objective the restoration of All Saints to it s rightful place at the centre of the community. 2 In April 2016, BCHT appointed a Project Manager and in June, the Design team, Rodney Melville and Partners were appointed. The principal build contractors, Bonsors Restoration, were appointed in October 2017 and are due to complete their work in August A Centre Manager was appointed in July It is anticipated that the opening of The Beonna will take place in November Task Description: The Beonna is an exciting new project which aims to conserve and adapt All Saints Church, Benington to create a community space and events venue. The project will represent an exemplar use of a village church by re-establishing essential rural services in a Grade I listed medieval building. The future success of The Beonna will depend on the BCHT having sufficient Trustees with the relevant skills to oversee the project. Equally important will be the development of a diverse and extensive volunteer base. The Volunteer and Development Co-ordinator will play a key part in the success of The Beonna and will be pivotal in leading this work, providing training for Trustees and creating opportunities for a wider range of volunteering, training and development opportunities, encouraging more local people to volunteer. BCHT is seeking to appoint a Volunteer and Development Co-Ordinator to carry forward and develop the project and assist the Centre Manager and Trustees with their work. Key Tasks: 1. To develop The Beonna volunteer offering Recruit, train and develop volunteers to act as Trustees of the Benington Community Heritage Trust and provide appropriate induction and training for the Trustees. Lead recruitment, training and development of volunteers for other roles as outlined in the Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Management Plan ensuring increased numbers and diversity of volunteers Ensure volunteers feel supported throughout the project Co-ordinate and run volunteer training and networking opportunities in partnership with BCHT Review and update the Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Management Plan as and when required Create Internship roles and recruit interns in partnership with organisations such as Boston College, Bishop Grosseteste and other education and training establishments. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and other BCHT policies 2. To oversee the initial delivery of the Activity and Interpretation Plan Work with the Trustees and Centre Manager to deliver The Beonna Activity Plan and support the achievement of the targets in The Beonna Business Plan Review the project Activity Plan and update as required Identify new learning opportunities and build these into the Activity Plan Work with local communities, school, colleges and interested groups to develop community networks and partnerships which will support the successful delivery of the Activities specified in the Activity Plan Deliver the Activity Plan, reporting on progress against programme and budget to Centre Manager and evaluate activities against HLF approved purposes Set up and support the Community Training Programme Volunteer and Development Co-0rdinator The Beonna at All Saints Page 2

3 Report on the delivery of the Activity Plan to the Centre Manager Ensure work produced reflects the aspirations of The Beonna, but flexible where required 3. Capacity building Work with the Centre Manager and BCHT to provide support for Trustee development Support Trustees to gain the necessary skills to oversee the management of The Beonna once operational Ensure Volunteers have the capability to continue to develop project benefits Review existing project Governance and make recommendations for improvement Set up and Chair the Beonna Advisory Group as outlined in the project Governance and Management Plan. Identify opportunities to grow BCHT Trustee numbers Provide support to BCHT Trustees as and when required 4. Establish and manage The Beonna user groups Liaise with the local community, partners and volunteers to establish user groups designed to support the growth and delivery of The Beonna Activity and Business Plans. User groups include: Volunteers Forum, Youth Forum, a Community Hub Forum and a Café Users forum. Co-ordinate user group meetings and make recommendations for change to Centre Manager and BCHT based on user group feedback Ensure groups feel engaged and valued throughout 5. Fundraising Support Centre Manager and BCHT with the development of fundraising applications to support the project 6. Administration and Management Undertake day to day administrative tasks including managing activity budgets Manage the activity budget and cash flow forecast, supporting Centre Manager and BCHT to undertake financial reconciliations as and when required Monitor, evaluate and report on volunteer development and activity delivery to the Centre Manager Attend BCHT Trustee and Volunteer meetings on a regular basis Fulfil all relevant Health & Safety and Child/vulnerable Adult Protection requirements Complete formal written reports as required 7. Additional Information Health and Safety Employees must be aware of their own responsibilities to comply with the Health and Safety Act (1974), and to ensure that agreed safety policies and procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for all colleagues, visitors and visiting contractors. 4 All BCHT colleagues are accountable, through the terms and conditions of their employment, and statutory health and safety regulations, and are responsible for reporting incidents, being aware of the risk management strategy and emergency procedures and attendance at training as required.
