1 1 Job Title SSP Physical Activity Officer Salary 16,000-18,000 pro rata (full time equivalent 20,800-23,400) Hours of Work You will have a standard working week of a minimum of 37 hours (excluding meal breaks of 1 hour daily) for 40 weeks per year, during school term time. You may be required to work outside of normal office hours, at evenings and weekends. You may also be required to work bank holidays. Permanent Not suitable for job share 2 Overall purpose of the Job As Physical Activity Officer you will deliver effective support and coordination for primary school programmes and events that engage young people in physical activity.
2 3 Duties and Responsibilities The Physical Activity Officer will be expected to: Clearly advocate to schools the benefits of participating in physical activity. Develop strong working relationships with schools to ensure they are engaged with SSP physical activity opportunities and the SSP affiliation package. Develop programmes that enable more young people to enjoy being active, from Foundation stage through to Year 6. Effectively plan, promote and deliver a calendar of mass participation and physical activity festivals. Work closely with the SSP School Sport Officer to ensure we effectively fulfil the physical activity elements of the School Games Organiser task list. Create innovative, cross-curricular opportunities that encourage a whole school approach to physical activity. Provide personalised support for a target number of schools to improve their Physical Activity offer. Provide training for schools in projects and cross-curricular programmes that encourage more young people to be active. Develop and deliver Daily Physical Activity programmes. Understand and promote the importance of Physical Literacy. Provide training and support to schools to enable them to have more active lunch and break times. Promote an inclusive approach that ensures all young people from across the primary age spectrum can enjoy and benefit from participating. Monitor and evaluate projects to demonstrate progress and impact and to inform the development of future programmes. Produce case studies and share success stories that demonstrate the whole school benefits of Physical Activity Work closely with the SSP team and DCCT colleagues to ensure synergy, integration and enrichment between programmes.
3 4 General General Duties Contribute to the overall ethos, work & aims of the SSP and Derby County Community Trust Stay abreast of curriculum change and the PE, school sport and physical activity landscape. Develop your personal knowledge for the benefit of both yourself and the Community Trust. Ensure that all health and safety issues are dealt with appropriately and in accordance with scheme policies and processes Such other duties as may be appropriate to achieve the objectives of the post to assist the company in the fulfilment of its objectives commensurate with the post holders' salary grade, abilities and aptitudes. You will be expected to accept reasonable flexibility in working arrangements and the allocations of duties to reflect the changing roles and responsibilities of Derby County Football Club. Any changes arising will take into account salary and status. They will also be subject to discussion with individuals or sections within the organisation.
4 PERSON SPECIFICATION DESCRIPTION 1 QUALIFICATIONS Essential Evidence of Continuous Professional Development Full clean driving licence with access to own transport Desirable Qualified Teacher Status or Teaching Assistant qualification Governing Body of Sport Coaching Award(s) and other appropriate training A degree or foundation degree in a sport related subject 2 EXPERIENCE Essential Experience of working in education, particularly primary schools Knowledge and understanding of the importance of PE, school sport and physical activity Knowledge and understanding of child protection Knowledge of Health and Safety Experience of planning and delivering events in physical activity or sport Desirable Knowledge and experience of working with a range of Key Stages (Foundation, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2) Experience of working with young people with special needs with the ability to adapt PE provision Experience of project management Understanding of current trends and initiatives related to PE, School Sport and Physical Activity Experience of developing cross-curricular resources that promote physical activity 3 SKILLS & ABILITIES Essential Excellent oral and written communication skills Effective communicator, able to build and sustain positive relationships with schools Ability to monitor, evaluate and assess performance Willingness to keep up to date on all relevant policies and procedures in education and sport Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team Good IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases Time management skills to be able to plan and regulate workload including the ability to prioritise demands and thrive under pressure Desirable Ability to plan and prioritise what needs to be delivered and ensure processes and resources are in place to deliver Ability to take a problem solving approach to challenges Ability to contribute to long term improvements in the partnership through the generation of new and innovative ideas
