1 Prject Prgress AUGUST - SEPTEMBER 2018 LANCE CREEK TO POOWONG NEW WATER SUPPLY ON THE WAY With cnstructin nearing cmpletin n the Lance Creek Water Cnnectin prject, water will sn flw frm the Lance Creek Supply System t Krumburra, Pwng, Lch and Nyra. The pipeline is a key Victrian Gvernment water security prject that will cnnect these twnships t Suth Gippsland Water s largest reservir, Lance Creek, and t the Melburne Water Supply System. Currently, the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant supplies Wnthaggi, Inverlch and Cape Patersn, and when the pipeline is cmmissined, Krumburra, Pwng, Lch and Nyra will jin the system. The pipeline will transfer an average f 2.6ML f water per day (the vlume f an Olympic-sized swimming pl) frm Lance Creek t the Krumburra Water Treatment Plant. A secnd pump statin at Krumburra will then transfer arund 800KL per day t Suth Gippsland Water s treated water strage tank at Pwng fr water supply t Pwng, Lch and Nyra. Testing and Blending In recent mnths, custmers in Wnthaggi, Inverlch and Cape Patersn may have nticed a gradual change in the taste and smell f their water. This is a result f Suth Gippsland Water testing upgrades t the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant s capacity t blend, treat and prcess greater vlumes f water, and the cmmencement f the use f water frm the Melburne Supply System.

2 CHANGES TO TREATMENT - Fluridatin and Chlraminatin Water distributed by the Lance Creek Water Treatment Plant will be chlraminated and fluridated t ensure custmers are supplied with drinking water that meets wrld-class standards and Department f Health regulatins. Fluridatin will be new t the Lance Creek Water Cnnectin twns f Krumburra, Pwng, Lch and Nyra, hwever, water currently supplied t Wnthaggi, Inverlch and Cape Patersn is bth fluridated and chlraminated. The fluridatin f water supply is a requirement f the Victrian Department f Health and Human Services fr dental and verall health purpses and is regulated by the Safe Drinking Water Act 2003, and chlraminatin is ne f the mst cmmnly used treatment agents in the prcessing f safe drinking water. The award is a great reflectin f the success f the partnership that has been frged and the expertise engaged in delivering the regin s largest water security prject t date. 4 RECYCLING RESERVOIRS - Planning Planning fr the next and final stage f the Lance Creek Water Cnnectin has begun lking at ptins t recycle the reservirs. As the Lance Creek Water Cnnectin prgresses, Suth Gippsland Water is nw lking t the cmmunity t assist in determining the future use f the reservirs that currently supply water t Krumburra, Pwng, Lch and Nyra. Existing Assets Fur existing reservirs lcated acrss the area will n lnger be required by Suth Gippsland Water and the Crpratin is lking t the cmmunity t help determine future uses. The fur reservirs vary in lcatin and size. Krumburra s water is currently supplied by: Calitin Creek Reservir Belleview Creek Reservir, rural lcatin, 359 mega litre capacity Calitin Creek Reservir, adjacent t the Krumburra Glf Club, 143 mega litre capacity Ness Gully Reservir, rural lcatin, 73.5 mega litre capacity Pwng is supplied by the Little Bass Reservir, adjacent t Sldiers Rad Pwng, 226 mega litre. Regulatins and Safety Managing a reservir cmes with a range f regulatins and cmplexities, subject t stringent dam safety requirements; there are three ptential utcmes fr each reservir: T remain in their current state T perate at lwer levels with reduced r n safety requirements Fr the dam wall t be remved and the water curse returned t riginal state. In partnership with the cmmunity and stakehlders, this prject is an exciting pprtunity t develp pssible future uses fr the reservirs, catchment areas and water allcatins t benefit the lcal regin. Cmmunity and Stakehlder Cnsultatin Over the cming weeks Suth Gippsland Water will be establishing a cmmunity and stakehlder reference grup with the bjective t further understand the cmplexities f ptential future uses, and seek guidance as t the repurpsing f the lcal reservirs as a cmmunity and/r reginal asset.
