Ocean Energy Resurces At the cmpletin f this mdule, the student will: have an understanding f the physical mechanisms in the cean which are n the basis f the generatin f surface waves, tides and currents, and their effects be familiar with the statistic descriptin f waves and currents use the statistical infrmatin t make evaluatin f the energy resurce use f GIS in site selectin characterizatin. Mdelling and Cntrl f Ocean Energy Systems At the cmpletin f this mdule, the student will: becme familiar with the linear hydrdynamic thery f wave energy systems becme familiar with the hydrdynamic thery f marine current turbines (BEM) be intrduced t advanced numerical hydrdynamic mdelling f wave and current systems and cntrl simulatin be intrduced t experimental testing and mnitring f OE systems get a basic knwledge f ther frms f cean energy and their systems as OTEC and salinity gradients. 1

2 Ocean Energy Systems Technlgies At the cmpletin f this mdule, the student will: becme familiar with the electr mechanical equipment used in wave energy systems and marine current turbines, the ffshre electrical grid and cnnectin systems get basic knwledge n the requirements t deply, perate and maintain the wave and current energy systems bth islated and in arrays. Ecnmics, Plicy and Envirnment At the cmpletin f this mdule, the student will: becme familiar with the basic ecnmic analysis f cean energy systems including the cst, financing and ecnmic evaluatin get basic knwledge n the general plicy issues regarding cean energy systems and mre detailed knwledge n the licensing and permitting prcedures fr installatin f OE systems and enabling mechanisms as funding, feed in tariffs and tax incentives Be able t perfrm simple envirnmental impact studies fr OE systems. Prject At the cmpletin f this mdule, the student will: bring int practice the knwledge acquired thrugh a case study in the frm f a specific small prject. 2
