3 THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION SOLAR DECATHLON TARGET Develpement f an innvative and experimental prttype f a hme with surplus energy (energy-plus) standard that is cst-efficient, energy-efficient and attractive The winner f the cmpetitin will be the team that cmbines best affrdability, market appeal and excellent design with ptimized energy prductin and maximum efficiency.

6 Appliances Cntest (100 pints) The U.S. Department f Energy Slar Decathln 2013 Appliances Cntest is designed t mimic the appliance use f an average U.S. hme. Teams earn pints fr refrigerating and freezing fd, washing and drying laundry, and running the dishwasher. Pints are awarded fr: - Maintaining the refrigeratr temperature between 34 F (1.11 C) and 40 F (4.44 C) - Keeping the freezer temperature between -20 F (-28.9 C) and 5 F (-1.5 C) - Washing a lad f laundry within a specified perid f time - Returning a lad f laundry t a ttal weight less than r equal t the lad's ttal weight befre washing using active r passive drying methds - Running the dishwasher thrugh a cmplete, uninterrupted cycle, at sme pint during which a temperature sensr placed in the dishwasher has t reach 120 F (48.9 C).
