We also offer a unique and comprehensive training service to companies who operate their own high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) networks through the use of our fully functional distribution network with integrated protection systems. The purpose-built training centre caters for all aspects of craft and engineering. 6 POWER SYSTEM SAFETY AND PROTECTION COURSES High voltage electrical systems can be potentially very dangerous if neglected or operated incorrectly, so it is essential to have up-to-date training to protect both the operator and the plant. Electrical accidents commonly occur whilst equipment, such as switchgear, transformers and cables, are being maintained. Most accidents happen when workers haven t been fully trained, or are being poorly supervised, or when the risks of the work have not been properly assessed. It is vital that employees who are required to operate and work on both high and low voltage systems are adequately trained and are assessed as being competent for the duties and responsibilities they undertake. It is important that such persons operate within a suitable safety management system that satisfies the requirements of the current legislation of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 has had a significant impact on companies found guilty of causing the death of a worker due to gross negligence. It is essential that companies are aware of the business risks caused by failure to meet the requirements the law demands. The training and appointment of staff is a key responsibility of the employer. The appointment of persons normally falls into a number of categories: Competent Person (CP) - a person who has sufficient technical knowledge and/or experience in order to avoid danger. Authorised Person (AP) - a competent person who has been appointed to carry out specific duties normally switching operations. Senior Authorised Person (SAP) - an authorised person who can issue and cancel safety documents permitting work or testing to be carried out. OP40 High Voltage Operational Safety OP40 5 days 1000 ex VAT Designed for technical personnel with a basic knowledge of electricity, but may have limited experience of operating and working on high and low voltage electrical systems. To familiarise delegates with the principles of electrical safety associated with the operation and control of electrical systems up to 11kV. Delegates should receive further on-site training and gain appropriate experience before being considered for authorisation. Currently we have designed operating procedures and provided training for some of the major companies involved in wind farm design, construction and operation. This three day course introduces delegates to the design, construction and safe operation of on-shore and off-shore wind farms. Design and operating practices will cover those used on-shore, off-shore and interface substations where energy is exported to the national network. Review and reinforcement of the principles of electrical safety associated with the operation and control of electrical systems up to 11kV. It could also act as a refresher for those that have an electrical background and work in low voltage building services environment. G39 Street Furniture G39 1 day 200 ex VAT Half day 100 ex VAT Designed for all public lighting authority personnel and/or their contractor personnel required to work on street lighting furniture which requires the removal of the cut-out fuse. This course aims to provide employees working within the Highway Electrical Sector with the knowledge and practical key skills required for work in the vicinity of Network Operator equipment including overhead lines and the removal and replacement of Network Operator cut-out fuse carriers in a safe and responsible manner and to comply with the responsibilities under company and legislative policies. We will ask you to complete a delegate registration form which can be either ed to you or accessed via our website. Please read through our terms and conditions. Payment arrangements will be discussed with you on the confirmation of booking.
