1 POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Incumbent: Division: Hazardous Waste Driver/Wastewater Servicemen Water & Wastewater Last Reviewed: January 2011 Location: Reports to: Pages Road Wastewater Reticulation Manager Approved by: (Signature of position holder) (Signature of immediate Supervisor/Manager) SECTION 1 OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB Is responsible for the dewatering process, transportation and disposal of sludge from wastewater treatment plants in accordance with contractual requirements. To carry out scheduled and urgent maintenance to the wastewater (sewer & stormwater) reticulation network to contract specifications by cleaning pipelines with a high pressure cleaner. 3 SECTION 5 MAJOR ACTIVITIES KEY TASKS WEIGHT OBJECTIVES Physical Activities Dewater, transportation and disposal of sludge from wastewater treatment plants in accordance with contractual requirements. Carry out scheduled and urgent maintenance to the wastewater (sewer & stormwater) reticulation network to contract specifications by cleaning pipelines with a high pressure cleaner. Complete daily safety checks before operating the vehicle, as well as, performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Perform minor maintenance including, but not limited to, checking and adding fluids, checking tires and safety mechanisms, and performs other maintenance as it relates to vehicle inspection or safe operation. Operate the dewatering, jetting and loading mechanisms on the truck. Load, unload, and transport Non-Hazardous or Hazardous material in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure loads are secure prior to transport. The use of the councils waste track system. Report all hazards/incidents/near misses You must wear personal protective equipment (example seat belts, gloves, work boots and safety glasses etc.) at all times. Comply with traffic control requirements Any other activities as requested by the Wastewater Manager Excellence in Contract Work Driving Staff Performance, Productivity and Innovation Building Attributes Provide an excellent quality of workmanship at all times Ask questions when unsure of what is expected or what to do Comply with contract and Company Health & Safety, Quality, Traffic Management, and environmental systems at all times. Always act with the customer in mind Positively promote City Care To ensure the cost-effective use of all plant and equipment within area of control. Share ideas with the Wastewater Manager with regards to better ways to complete the job. Continually identify and advise of improvements to HSE, Quality, and environmental standards Continually improve service, productivity and efficiency. Business Development/Client Relationship Management To build and maintain effective working relationships with existing and new clients. To ensure new opportunities are forwarded on to the Business Development Manager for further development. Page 3 of 5
4 Administration Public Relations Personal Development Other duties Plant and labour time sheets are accurately recorded and authorised. All administration that is required for the efficient operation of the business is carried out, kept and maintained. Maintain driving records and logs. The image of City Care is promoted. A good relationship with the public is fostered. Staff are actively encouraged to provide a good customer focused service. To ensure that personal development and on going training enables you to carry out requested duties to the optimum level of efficiency. To proactively attain knowledge of new industry methods or processes and apply to situations where applicable. Staff are actively encouraged to attend training course which will improve their personal development. To undertake other duties where requested by the Wastewater Manager. SECTION 6 TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS: Essential: National Certificate in Water / Wastewater Heavy Trade class 4 with D endorsment and full car licence TRAINING/SPECIFIC SKILLS: Essential: Strong technical skills in Water and Wastewater. Working knowledge of Health and Safety in Employment Act. Management of Dangerous Goods Competent use of C.C.C. Wastetrack system EXPERIENCE Essential At least 5 years driving a class 4 vehicle Transportation of hazardous goods 5 years in the water and wastewater industry. PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES OR COMPETENCIES: Essential Desirable: Heavy Trade class 5 Desirable: Desirable Commercial industry experience in water & wastewater systems. Desirable Page 4 of 5
5 Sound commitment to Quality and HSE management. Good standard of customer service. Proven ability to lead, manage,motivate and communicate with others Self motivated and driven towards commercial success. SECTION 7 OTHER INFORMATION Callout: May be required to take part on the after hours wastewater roster. Travel : The City Care Drivers are required to travel within the New Zealand as required.
