Edmonton Catholic Schools requires a Team Lead to provide leadership to a team of five professionals in the delivery of educational research, student assessment, FOIP, records management, program evaluation, statistics, and demographics services. The job also assists the director in attaining the unit s goals and objectives. The job is directly accountable for providing services related to applied educational research. Primarily, the job is responsible for identifying, developing, and providing statistical and demographic information to support district initiatives involving quantitative and qualitative data analysis in the areas of assessment and educational research. In addition, the job supports FOIP and records management services. The job provides guidance to district staff by designing, analyzing, and interpreting sound assessment measures used to monitor district performance and growth and to support Alberta Education s accountability initiatives. This is a permanent, full-time, Out of Scope, Level 7 position with a salary range of $81, $101, Position to commence as soon as possible. The successful applicant s starting salary will be based on the individual s education, qualifications and directly related experience. Primary Responsibilities: Maintain the district monitoring portal site with test schedules; Update and support information in the portal pertinent to each school enabling trend analysis; Write programs, applications, and edit profiles used in the electronic data collection, analysis, and reporting of tests and surveys; Assist in the development of data collection methodology based on emerging research questions using surveys, literature searches, and literature reviews; Develop and manage electronic data collection for literacy projects for all schools and grade levels; Provide support to the director in matters related testing results, district surveys, diploma examinations and a range of surveys. Provide information to assist staff in understanding the complexities associated with records management and privacy. Qualifications: Degree or diploma in an area related to Arts, Commerce, Sciences or Education, or equivalent, plus coursework in computing, statistics, FOIP, records management and research. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in these areas. Knowledge of data collection techniques and research methodology for quantitative and qualitative analysis; Knowledge of records management and FOIP principles, practices and legislation; Proficiency in statistical analysis software, electronic student records and reporting databases and Microsoft programs; Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach, mentor and guide staff; Excellent organizational and time management skills; Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to influence decision making; Attention to detail and the ability to work with a high degree of precision. The primary focus of the job is to provide leadership to a team of five professionals in the delivery of educational research, student assessment, program evaluation, statistics, and demographics services. The job also assists the director in attaining the units goals and objectives. The job is directly accountable for providing services related to applied educational research. The job is responsible for identifying, developing, and providing statistical and demographic information in order to support district initiatives involving quantitative and qualitative data analysis in the areas of assessment and educational research. In addition, the job supports FOIP and records management services. The job provides guidance to district staff by designing, analyzing, and interpreting sound assessment measures used to monitor district performance and growth and to support Alberta Education s accountability initiatives. The work has broad-based effects that have an impact on individual departments and schools as well as the district as a whole. Leadership Participate in the recruitment and selection process, engagement and retention of staff Support staff in the attainment of the goals and objectives through coaching and mentoring Provide input into staff performance evaluations Assist staff in completing projects and assignments by offering advice and guidance 2. Communication and consultation Maintain the District Monitoring portal site with test schedules Update and support information in the portal pertinent to each school enabling trend analysis Write programs, applications, and edit profiles used in the electronic data collection, analysis, and reporting of tests and surveys Provide information to assist staff in understanding the complexities associated with statistics and assessments 3. Statistical and demographic data Assist in the development of data collection methodology based on emerging research questions using surveys, literature searches, and literature reviews Report results of applied educational research to the director Assist in the analysis of achievement, satisfaction, attendance, enrolment, and other data based on student and parent First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) self-identification for Aboriginal Learning Services Assist the director with analysis of district results of the provincial testing program and draft reports of results 4. Data management, research, and assessment Develop and manage electronic data collection for literacy projects for all schools and grade levels Monitor student literacy levels and assist in the identification of at-risk students for consultant intervention Revised July 26,

Assist in the provision of school-level accountability and student assessment data to each school Assist director in reporting the results of the District Exams in high school subject areas Draft documents in response to queries related to planning and program evaluation Develop and implement strategies and systems to conduct internal research about district programs and initiatives 5. Provincial Achievement Testing Provide support to the director in matters related to testing results, District surveys, diploma examinations and a range of surveys Provide advice and guidance to schools in relation to achievement test results (district, provincial, and individual) 6. Records management Assist the FOIP Coordinator in the delivery of services Assist in the development of policies and practises Participate in compiling overall needs assessment inventories Contribute to the development of new policies Provide information to assist staff in understanding the complexities associated with records management and privacy 7. Unit activities Contribute to the unit s short- and long-term strategic planning activities Provide cover-off for the director during absences Represent the director at meetings and committees Assist team with peak workloads and during absences 8. Professional development Maintain technical knowledge through a range of professional development activities Review practices and implement changes to enhance work efficiency Identify staff training needs PROBLEM SOLVING: Describe difficult or challenging situations the position is typically expected to solve; the degree of originality of the solutions; assistance available; and any problems or decisions that must be referred to a supervisor for resolution or approval The job assists the director in planning, designing, delivering, collecting and assessing results of surveys used to gauge student, parent and staff levels of satisfaction. Problem-solving and innovation are daily demands for the incumbent because the focus of the unit is providing service related to planning and policy. Research questions emerge constantly and these require timely responses to new sets of circumstances necessitating research, collaboration, and resolution. The incumbent must demonstrate innovation in solving these challenging situations. The unit is responsible for measurement, applied research, privacy, and records management in the district, and as a member of that unit, the incumbent must consistently monitor methodology for reliability and validity issues. The reports generated are complex, lengthy, and require complete accuracy and attention to detail. Accurate reporting is crucial for planning and decision making at a district level. Student performance reports must be readily available to schools to make responsible decisions about programs or interventions to benefit students. The director approves all projects and is available for assistance. ORGANIZATIONAL DATA: Identify any measurable areas upon which the job has either direct or indirect impact. Measures that may be included are: number of staff supervised, annual operating budget, number and size of projects, clients served or any other significant values. Include examples that indicate the size of the job. Attach a complete Organization Chart that includes supervisor, peers, direct reports and staff. 4 The job has multiple demands; as a result, the incumbent must balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. The research information provided is used by departments and schools in decision-making and anticipating future educational needs. The results of the district-level surveys provide the basis for district planning and finances, department planning, and program evaluation. The reports generated provide information that directly affects students in areas such as learning, school growth plans, and assessment practices.
