It is an exciting time for the charity as we expand our reach and impact to meeting the challenges of meningitis and septicaemia wherever they exist in the world. The candidate: We are seeking a qualified accountant who will help the organisation run its finances and administrative functions effectively and efficiently to maximise our impact. The suitable individual will be a fast learner, able to adapt to an emerging strategic environment at speed, and at the same time bring great attention to detail. This will be aligned with a positive attitude to challenges in keeping with the charity values. With a drive to continue ongoing work in the UK and Ireland whilst growing our international presence significantly, we are about to embark on a new phase of development for the charity. 3 Job escription - Head of Finance & Administration Context We are about to enter the second year of our 3-year strategy running to 2030 and our operations are consequently becoming more exciting, international and complex than before. This trend is likely to continue and pick up speed in future if we are successful in delivering our strategy. We have therefore taken the decision to appoint a qualified management accountant with charity experience to lead our work on finance and administration to bring in expertise and experience we will need to scale our work in future around the world. Purpose To lead and oversee all aspects of MRF s Finance and Administration. Reports to Chief xecutive as part of the senior management team of the organisation. Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of the charity finance, office, IT and HR strategies aligned to the overall organisational strategy. Finance Regulate all financial systems and processes at the charity so they are fit for purpose and establish an ongoing process of continuous improvement. In particular, ensure management accounts are accurately produced on time each month; the charity can accurately report on and reforecast its financial position (P&L and cash); the charity has a simple dashboard for reporting financial performance; and the charity annual accounts are written in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with SORP through a professional audit process. HR nsure charity contracts and policies are clearly written in plain nglish, meet all regulatory requirements, and support the ongoing development of a modern, progressive charity through the attraction, retention and development of high quality staff and volunteers. IT nsure that IT provision supports the charity strategic goals using external support and expertise as required. Offices nsure all operating locations have suitable processes and procedures for the legal and timely management of charity operations and finances. Oversee the annual budget and operating plan process for the charity and create suitable budgets and plans for the finance and administration function. Head-Finance-Admin /6
4 Trustee/Board relationship management Prepare and oversee the annual audit; Trustee meeting/s and sub-committee administration; all legal and regulatory filing and compliance (e.g. Gambling Commission, Charity Commission). Commercial agreements and contracts Maintain a register and manage all key external contracts and to ensure they are compliant with sound regulatory practice and finance management. People Support and develop a high-performing finance and administration function. Head-Finance-Admin /6
5 Person Specification ssential or esirable Training, xperience and Qualifications Knowledge and Skills Personal Attributes General Qualified management accountant (CIMA level or higher) 2:1 degree or above in finance or related subject Charity/not-for-profit sector diverse income stream finance oversight; international grants, trusts, foundations, voluntary income (individual giving, events, JustGiving) > 5million turnover finance management Fully conversant with, and ability to personally use, SAG or equivalent accounting software to run the finances of the charity and produce management accounts International currency management and transactions Human resources oversight Leading a team of 5 or more people Creation and maintenance of dashboard performance reporting for use by senior management Office management & administration, including IT and outsourced IT management Board/Trustee finance information reporting and presentations Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds and seniority and to communicate at their level Microsoft Office packages including Outlook, Word, xcel or similar Ability to quickly master new complex information and ideas, and make these accessible to others Attention to detail Reliable and consistent Creative and willing to be accountable for trying new ideas A role model to colleagues Maturity and professionalism Ambitious, with a desire for constant improvement Sensitivity, diplomacy and empathy Able to work occasional unsocial hours and a willingness to travel, occasionally overnight Full driving licence Head-Finance-Admin /6
6 Terms and Conditions - ssentials Location Your normal place of work will be Newminster House, Baldwin Street, Bristol, BS1 1LT with occasional work elsewhere including the UK and Republic of Ireland and potentially further afield depending on the post held. Salary 45,000 gross including 1% employee pension contribution + 6% employer pension contribution. Paid in arrears on or around 25th of each month. Benefits mployee assistance programme in place with free access to confidential, professional legal and health advice Core hour policy: 10.00am -3.00pm with ability to request flexible working around these hours Home working: where appropriate staff can split time between the office and home as agreed with their line manager Childcare voucher scheme Cycle to work scheme Hours of Work hours Monday to Friday.
