2 Caudwell Children s Charity Director of Fundraising 60,000 Full-time, Permanent Stoke-0n-Trent (with a presence in London) Caudwell Children is a national charity which works to transform the lives of disabled children and their families, enabling them to challenge the barriers they face throughout childhood by providing practical and emotional support. We are preparing to enter an exciting period of growth with a major capital project currently underway which will see the organisation move into a 15million purpose-built therapy and research centre. It will provide a state-of-the-art base for the charity s therapies and an environment where groundbreaking research can be undertaken and potentially change the way some disabilities are treated, affecting millions of people around the world. As the charity transforms and continues to grow, an increase in fundraising revenue is also required and the charity seeks a motivational leader to optimize the organisation s fundraising potential. 3 Job Description POST TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR: Director of Fundraising Chief Executive Officer The strategic management and development of the charity s income generation HOURS: 37.5 TERM OF POST: PROBATIONARY PERIOD: LEAVE ENTITLEMENT: SALARY GRADE: BENEFITS: LOCATION: Permanent 3 months 21 days annual leave per annum exclusive of Bank Holidays (increasing with length of service) - May be negotiable 50,000-70,000 negotiable dependent upon experience Company Vehicle, Private Medical Insurance, Income Protection Scheme, Life Assurance Scheme Staffordshire PURPOSE OF THE POST Caudwell Children is a national charity which works to transform the lives of disabled children and their families, enabling them to challenge the barriers they face throughout childhood by providing practical and emotional support. 4 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the strategic management and development of the charity s income generation, this new role will play a pivotal part in taking the charity to the next level and helping to change the lives of disabled children across the UK. With extensive experience in a fundraising or income generation setting, candidates should have a good understanding of the voluntary sector and be comfortable working in a variety of environments however third sector and commercial sectors are preferable. Directing an expanding team of entrepreneurially-minded, passionate senior managers and fundraisers, the successful candidate will need to be an excellent communicator with the management skills required to devise and execute regional and national campaigns. An inspirational leader with the ability to foster effective relationships across our diverse sectors and stakeholders, candidates should be adaptable, flexible, and as comfortable rolling their sleeves up and getting engaged with practical tasks as they are discussing long term strategy and goals. Collaborating and challenging the team to continually improve quality, quantity and financial sustainability of the fundraising activities while respecting their expertise, valuing their judgment, and offering substantive ideas and suggestions for consideration. Be the driving force and the executive voice advancing the fundraising projects whilst creating and developing new ones. Managing fundraising targets to meet financial expectations of the charity; demonstrating the ability to explain and justify variances; and implement effective actions to achieve positive outcomes. Overseeing existing revenue streams including events, challenges, major gifts, regular giving, grants and corporate partnerships; the role demands that established fundraising is optimised and new opportunities strategically implemented. Measuring, monitoring and achieving metrics to expand existing projects and the creation of new projects aligned with the strategic plan and emerging opportunities. 5 Person Specification 1. Experience and success in developing and managing income generation (preferably in a fundraising capacity). 2. Enthusiastic advocate of business planning, with experience and skill in doing this. 3. Considerable experience and competence in planning, developing and managing the operations and sales/fundraising teams. 4. Experience and skill in new business development. 5. Willingness and ability to undertake basic administrative activities themselves (not expecting of others what you would not do yourself). 6. Highly computer literate, with strong competence in using the mainstream computing packages and products. 7. Driven, proactive and productive self-starter able to work efficiently and achieve a lot under their own steam but not afraid to ask questions when needed and manage up. 8. An enthusiastic, creative, driven and sensitive leader - able to inspire and encourage others to give their best. 9. Well organised able to prioritise and manage own (and other people's) workload, 10. Confident, professional and friendly communicator with a hands on approach to greenfield activity. 11. Confident to ensure all work complies with Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and other policies of Caudwell Children. 12. Capable of working with a dynamic executive team who thrive off delivering fast results.
