1 Position description Manager, Donor Development Position title: Manager, Donor Development Classification: HEW 7 Division/Department: Fundraising Position reference: Work location: Parkville Employment type: FT Position reports to: Head of Fundraising Remuneration range: $81,422-84,714 Positions reporting to this one: None Position overview The fundraising team contributes to the financial sustainability of the institute by attracting revenue from nongovernment sources, including philanthropic individuals, community-based fundraising organisations and trusts and foundations, both in Australia and overseas. Fundraising contributes revenue to the operating budget (donations and grants), to the permanent invested capital fund (gifts in wills) and to capital expenditure (grants for equipment). This philanthropic funding helps the institute to remain at the forefront of research and technology, recruit and retain the best staff, and creates a buffer against adverse changes in government funding policies. The Manager, Donor Development supports the fundraising objectives of the institute by encouraging and supporting individuals and community organisations to contribute to the institute by making regular donations, and/or conducting fundraising activities both in their communities and online. Working with other fundraising managers within the fundraising team and closely with the marketing and communications and online team, this role is responsible for generating annual revenue via donations, community and online fundraising. This role also takes the lead in identifying and testing other fundraising opportunities, including digital and direct strategies. This role requires high-levels of collaboration and communication with a wide-range of internal and external stakeholders. The Fundraising team works closely with the Marketing and Communications team to effectively integrate fundraising with branding, broader public awareness raising and engagement. Internal: Head of Fundraising: weekly reporting to ensure engagement opportunities align with and support the Fundraising strategy Fundraising Team: regular collaboration with team members to develop and implement a program of engagement opportunities for supporters. Database coordinator: accurate maintenance of database (Raisers Edge) Manager, Events: coordination of dates and logistics for any events (15+ attendees) held within the institute. Scientific staff: coordination and briefing of scientific staff for presentations to supporters Graphics and Communications timely briefing for any communication requirements Page 1 of 5

2 External: Individuals who wish to support the institute by donating or fundraising in their communities Community organisations (e.g. golf clubs, service clubs) that wish to contribute to the institute by fundraising in their communities Service providers such as Everyday Hero, GoFundraise and Good2Give. Organisational environment The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research The institute, established in 1915, currently houses 15 research divisions, containing around 86 laboratories and 800 staff, with an annual budget of approximately A$100 million. The institute s research focuses on cancer (breast, cancer, leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, lung cancer, colon cancer, and ovarian cancer), infectious disease (malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and hepatitis) and chronic inflammatory and immune diseases (coeliac disease, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and transplantation) and continues a strong tradition of collaboration and interdisciplinary programs. The institute has a strong national and international reputation for performing highly influential research and for translation that leads to long term improvements in disease, diagnosis and treatment. The institute s main laboratories are located within the Parkville precinct, a vibrant hub for life science research, education and healthcare provision. In addition, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute Biotechnology Centre is located 30 minutes from Parkville at La Trobe University s R&D Park in Bundoora. The Biotechnology Centre features facilities for high-throughput chemical screening, medicinal chemistry, antibody production and malaria containment. The centre also functions as an incubator for the institute s biotechnology companies. 3 Key responsibilities Key responsibilities Major activities Outcomes/performance measures Manage the institute s direct, digital and community fundraising activities Provide customer support and appropriate level of service to individuals and community groups wishing to support the institute. Develop the institute s online fundraising strategy, expertise and platforms. Maintain accurate donor records on Database. Work with Head of Fundraising to develop appropriate engagement and acknowledgement events and activities for mid-level donors and community fundraisers. Increase revenue from mid-level donors (<$10k per annum> by developing, implementing and assessing acquisition, retention and conversation activities. Increasing revenue from community fundraising including groups (e.g. golf clubs) Increasing revenue from online fundraising platforms (e.g. Everyday Hero) Increase ongoing engagement with community fundraisers Ensure community fundraisers are also positive advocates for the institute Assess, implement and coordinate the institute s digital fundraising strategy across multiple channels Coordinate fundraising messages for communication channels including social media and digital channels and internal communication channels Working cross functionally to identify opportunities for revenue conversion and revenue growth on current web and social media channels. Increasing understanding and utilization of digital platforms for fundraising or engagement with supporters and prospects Collaboratively work with marketing and communications team to develop improved methods for delivering engaging FR content on existing institute channels, including website content, video, social media and . Develop a coherent and cohesive strategy development in conjunction with relevant marketing and communications representatives. Successfully integrate existing strategies with new plan Increase revenue from workplace giving by working closely with Good2Give Significantly grow and enhance FR presence and effectiveness on social media and digital channels. 4 Build fundraising capacity of the institute Track and monitor performance of all programs and provide feedback to ensure all campaigns are meeting agreed KPIs Using database and analytical techniques, interrogate data to improve conversion, retention and Lifetime Value.
