2 PREPARATION 2 1. SHIPPING & DROP-OFF LOCATION FOR ARTWORK If you are planning on shipping your work for the exhibition, we require that all work be received between December 1st and 3rd, Shipping of any remaining artwork back to the artist after the Fair is available at an additional cost. Our drop-off location will be at: The Catalina Hotel & Beach Club Rooms 114 and Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL Again, we ask that if you are having your work delivered to us, please have it shipped to be delivered between the 1st and 3rd of December. 2. DISCOUNTED HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS SELECT Fair - with whom we are working - has given us accommodation information on where you can get a special rate as an exhibiting artist. The offer is a hotel option for $135 per night at the Sunbrite. The Sunbrite is located on South Beach - a short walk from the Catalina Hotel which has been transformed into SELECT Fair s exhibition space. If you click on the link below you can see sample photos of the room you would be staying in. There are two rooming options: One-Bedroom Suites: Offers lush queen bedding, a separate beautifully furnished living area with plasma TV, separate bedroom with plasma TV, and one full bathroom complete with granite counter tops and endless linens. Each suite features a fully functional gourmet kitchen, decked out with stainless steel appliances, rich espresso cabinets, smooth crisp granite and all the utensils you would find at home. 2

Enjoy a bite at your high-top breakfast nook for two or relax with your lush queen bed and an oversized plasma television that make up your inviting sleeping area. Here are common pricing methods recommended by galleries and art businesses: Pricing principles for artists new to the market: - Price your art based on what is comparable to your work. Compare your art to what sells, not to what does not sell. Set your price similar to other artists with similar experiences and who work in similar mediums, or - Price your art like a retailer, at two (or three) times the cost materials, or - Price it at the cost of materials plus your hourly rate x hours spent creating the art. - Broaden your appeal and try to offer works at various price points. Pricing principles for artists with sale history: - Price your work based on documented accomplishments, sales history, and exhibition history. Art sales are not immune to the ups and downs of the general economy. Artists should make necessary price adjustments to reflect market conditions. - Broaden your appeal and try to offer works at various price points. We are here to give you our second opinions after you have done your pricing calculations. Please remember that 30% of your sale will go to Starry Night Retreat, so it would be good to consider that in the calculations of your work. 3

SUBMITTING FOR THE EXPOSURE BOOK We are putting together a book of our portfolio of Starry Night Exposure Artists, which you should have received an about. We want to give you one free copy as a gift from us, and further copies will be made available for purchase at the exhibition as well as online for those who are interested in your work but are unable to make a purchase right then at the fair. The book will feature each of the Starry Night Exposure Artists, along with your artwork and artist statement. In order for you to be included in the book you will absolutely need to provide the following by Friday, October 11th: 1. A high-resolution (300dpi) headshot 2. Up to 6 high-resolution (300dpi) images of your best and most recent artwork* 3. An artist statement about your work that does not exceed 700 words** *The artwork that you submit for the Exposure book does not need to be the work you are showing in the exhibition, but can be. **Please note that your statement is subject to editing. 4

VIP EVENTS Starry Night is planning a happy hour mixer for all of our Exposure Artists and Meet & Greets with gallerists and collectors, but on top of this, as an Exhibitor you are invited to VIP Events through SELECT Fair. DECEMBER 2ND STEVE POWERS MURAL PARTY // 7PM 11PM A collaboration between New York City, Miami & Philadelphia: toasting the unveiling of Stephen ESPO Powers mural. Music will be presented by nationally known DJs as the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program celebrates its 30th Anniversary year with an announcement of their new project dedicated to the art of DJing in DECEMBER 4TH - VERNISSAGE // 7PM 10PM SELECT s Vernissage event is exclusive to SELECT VIP s. It s the earliest opportunity for connessiours to acquire before the masses. The Vernissage includes drinks, tours, and the launch of SELECT Fair s application powered by Collectrium. Visitors will also get an up-close look at the Steve Powers Mural & the installations by Meow Wolf & Swoon. DECEMBER 6TH PUBLIC RECEPTION // 7PM -11PM Celebratory toast to VIP guests, exhibitors, and the SELECT Fair team. There will be special performances by Artist David Gil, DJ sets, and a cocktail hour. The Reception will include a celebration of the public installation created by The Fashion Institute of Technology NYC. 4. TALKS/LECTURES If you are planning to make the trip out to Miami for your exhibition, the Miami Beach Convention Center will be having daily talks and lectures for the public. 8 YOUR WORK IN THE SHOW 8 1. CURATION Your work is currently being evaluated by the SELECT Fair curators and Exposure curators for placement in the show. We asked you to submit up to ten digital images of work for consideration or images that are indicative of a body of work that you are currently working on, and we are selecting the pieces we think will do the best at the fair and securing them for the exhibition. We will be situated in two rooms at the Catalina Hotel that have been stripped bare and painted white. We have accepted no more than 20 artists for the exhibition, allowing each artist to have to space for their work. We will be notifying you soon on the three pieces we have chosen out of your submission, as well as the three pieces as back-up for our inventory onsite. We are located in rooms 114 and 116, which you can see at the bottom of the on this link: 2. PRESENTATION In December, you will ship your work to Miami where we will receive it, hang it, light it properly, and give you non-exclusive gallery representation. You are welcome to come to Miami in person, but that is not included in your Exposure fees. We will be there to represent your work for you, helping to keep the cost of exhibition as low as possible. 3. SALES Typically, galleries do a split of the total sale price with the artist. In many cases, the gallery takes 50-60% of the total amount that a piece of art sells for. This leaves less than half of the total selling price for the artist the creator of the work to take home. Something about that doesn t seem right to us. The Exposure program aims to make the opportunity for an artist to show and sell work at the Fair as cost effective as possible. In this spirit, we take only 30% of the total amount of the sale, leaving the artist with 70%. 4. INSURANCE Starry Night has purchased insurance through SELECT Fair which insures your artwork while it is onsite at Art Basel Miami. We highly recommend having your own insurance policy to cover your work while it is being delivered to the exhibition, if you feel that it is necessary. 8
