11 6 Descriptin f 1st semester The semester theme is: Designing the glbal crpratin Argumentatin f the value The verall bjective f the semester is t give the students a hlistic apprach t the field f a GMM - engineer. The semester prject will give the students a general basic understanding f the rganisatin and lgistic value chain f the manufacturing cmpany. The semester prject fcuses n the design and planning f a wrldwide manufacturing cmpany and cvers business develpment in the perspective f prduct features and market aspects as well as the understanding and evaluatin f the cnsequences in glbalisatin. In cnnectin with the prject, the students are given lessns within the subject f materials and prcesses, technical drawings, statistics, IT-Qualificatins, rganisatin, supply chain management, internatinal cmpetences and business English. These will give the student the basic knwledge and qualificatins fr the further study and fr the prject wrk as well. The mdule GX-SET1 includes the prject wrk in teams and the curses: Organisatin, internatinal qualificatins, IT-qualificatins, supply chain management, cmputer aided design and business English. This mdule will give the student the basic knwledge abut hw t wrk in teams and accrding t the prject mdel cncept, develp a prduct and t find the psitining f it. Find market infrmatin and t d a market segmentatin. Assess the marketing plan and its parameters. Design a factry lay-ut and chse prcesses fr a specific prduct. Assess and develp the supply chain and the value chain in ttal. Find alternative value chains in a glbal perspective and t ptimise. The fcus will be n inventry, distributin, purchasing and transprtatin f gds. Wrking n a prject while receiving lectures that supprts technical and management theries will give the students bth a theretical and practical apprach within the semester subjects. Cncerning the main subjects: Inventry and distributin management, the fcus will be n bth strategic cnsideratins and methds f cntrl and physical arrangements as well. The students will als gain basic knwledge f external lgistics and will be able t perfrm a systematic evaluatin in chsing and planning the transprtatin f gds within the supply chain. In rder fr the students t be able t describe and imprve business and infrmatin systems, the semester will cntain bth thery and practice in basic understanding f system analysis and design f infrmatin structure. Subjects as: Capacity planning, standard times based n studies, creatin f factry lay-uts, warehuse peratins, packaging peratins, functinal diagrams, business data bases, internatinal standards fr technical drawings, tlerances in technical drawings will be cvered during these curses. The mdule GX-SET2 includes the prject wrk in teams and the curses: Supply chain management, prject management, internatinal qualificatins, business English and cmpany envirnment. This mdule will give the students knwledge, n the basis f a knwn prduct and manufacturing prcesses, abut hw t plan a warehuse with fcus n bth the strategic and the peratinal level. Dimensining, inventry cntrl and physical arrangements will be apart f the prject. Students als have t g int detailed level in arranging the wrkspace fr either packing r assembling and shw understanding f basic manufacturing data and capacity planning. Prject management will include: Efficient teamwrk, situatin analysis, prject elements, planning and fllw-up, financing and cntracts fr prjects. Students will abut envirnmental and health and safety aspects, gain knwledge abut laws, regulatins and ethics when planning internatinal peratins. Business English will be trained. 15 10 Descriptin f 3rd semester The semester theme is: Manufacturing in a glbal view Argumentatin f the value This semester will fcus n the ttal value chain fr physical prducts t the market, and give special attentin t the part f the supply chain where the physical manufacturing f prducts takes place. During this semester the student will build n the subjects frm 1 st and 2 nd semester t cmplete sme f the majr subjects in manufacturing and business in a brader view. Wrking n the semester prject while receiving lectures, that supprts technical and management theries, will give the students bth a theretical and practical apprach within the semester subjects. Tpics cvered includes; hw t describe a ttal and cmplete manufacturing cncept, establishing manufacturing facilities including all majr direct and indirect aspects, hw t analyse a prduct and its business and t develp a manufacturing strategy, and prpse alternative cmplete manufacturing cncepts including alternative lcatins. Semester learning utcmes: The student will Gain knwledge abut high-level strategic decisins will lead t a range f lwer peratinal decisins. Be able t evaluate the effect f different strategic and peratinal decisins in depth, using the principles f internatinal managerial accunting Knw abut different aspects f prcess planning. Supprtive functins like preventive maintenance systems will als be taken int cnsideratin. Knw abut the principle fr planning and scheduling f manufacturing capacity by the use f MRP and ERP. Knw abut the different mdern cmmunicatin technlgies influencing the business develpment, the way they are used and hw they influence the rganisatin. Gain knwledge abut the regins - first f all the Eurpean Cmmunity, and use mre detailed analysis, than in the first semester - hw they are designed, the plitical basis and hw they influence ding business. Semester structure The semester structure will be in tw mdules: The mdule GX-BAS3 Basic Applied Science includes the curses Managerial accunting 1 and Material and Prcesses 3, which will give the student knwledge fr the prject wrk and a platfrm fr the further semesters and a part f the GMM engineers technical skills prfile. The students will gain knwledge n management and cst accunting fundamentals and the interpretatin f accunting infrmatin, and the effect n hw a business is run frm a financial perspective. The essential tls with which a prcess fr prducing a prduct can be chsen and sized will be presented, and exemplified. Special attentin is given t the quality aspect f prductin including varius tls and techniques. 15

16 The mdule GX-SET3 Semester theme includes the prject wrk in teams and the curses Supply Chain Management 3 and Internatinal qualificatins 3. These curses will supprt the prject wrk. The students will be intrduced t manufacturing n strategic, tactical and peratinal level and will fcus n the tpics f MRP and ERP and varius imprvement prgrams. During the prject wrk the student will learn abut the relatinship between the strategy f a business area and the manufacturing strategy. The student will als get knwledge abut Lean thinking in manufacturing aspects. Furthermre the student will get knwledge abut science thery. Wrking in a prject while receiving lectures that supprts internatinal business, technical, management and manufacturing theries will give the students bth a theretical and practical apprach within the semester subjects.
