2 Purpose of the role To undertake programmed maintenance tasks in a timely and professional manner To undertake new fitter/engineering work as required To perform fitter/engineering repairs on faulty plant items Carry out installation of replacement plant items. Assisting the Mechanical Supervisor with general administrative duties including preparing quotes, recording work task details and contract administration duties Administer current Health and Safety policies and procedures both internally and for contractors Participate and perform after hours oncall duties as rostered and callout duties when requested Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - August 2017 Page 2

3 KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES Programmed maintenance (PM s) All programmed maintenance to be completed in accordance with the computerised maintenance system, time frame. PM s are prioritised accordingly and completed in reasonable time. Inspections are undertaken to identify maintenance work items. New work and Defects Complete new work in a competent and timely manner. Complete new projects to the satisfaction of the Mechanical Supervisor All defects are repaired in a timely manner and are left in a safe condition Maintenance of Plant Carry out fitting of various replacement plant items and the associated maintenance. Work requests ( requisitions) are completed in a timely, professional and safe manner Work tasks are completed to the satisfaction of the Mechanical Supervisor On call Duties Participate in the Trades on call after hours system, starting approx. 6 months after commencing employment. This system is a rostered system with various WDHB Trades personnel participating. Each rostered on call is of one week duration and operates outside normal working hours, including weekends. Attend Fitter related call outs to any WDHB site when requested. Assist with the management of contractors Assist the management with the supervision of various external maintenance contractors Assist management in the preparation of quotations for department managers. Assist management in implementing safety procedures with contractors including safety Delivery of a high standard of customer service within the Waitemata DHB induction s and hazard identification. Maintenance services provided are customerfocused and timely Communication with staff is professional, appropriate and clearly indicates a willingness to be helpful Telephone messages are recorded accurately Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - August 2017 Page 3

4 KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES All responses to requests are prompt, within specified timeframes, and priorities are determined appropriately Maintains strict confidentiality in relation to patient/client and Waitemata DHB business information Assistance is provided to other members of the maintenance department as time and priorities permit Maintenance administration Assist with general office administration including the preparation of quotations, work assessments and advice to departments. All paperwork is completed on time and accurately, including fortnightly timesheets. Adherence to policies and procedures Complies with Waitemata DHB policies and procedures, and the Quality Manual Procedures and Work Instructions. Learning and Development Participates in the performance management Programme Identifies learning needs and negotiates with the manager to attend appropriate courses. Applies knowledge, information and experience to practice Statutory & Treaty of Waitangi obligations Ensures the professional and political integrity of Waitemata DHB by carrying out all functions in compliance of the Treaty of Waitangi and by demonstrating a serious commitment to keeping the treaty alive. Shows sensitivity to cultural complexity in the workforce and patient population. To recognise individual responsibility for workplace Health & Safety under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace at WDHB by: Following, implementing, monitoring & ensuring compliance with all H&S policies & processes Timely escalation of issues to Risk Register as required Planning, organising & managing H&S activities directed at preventing harm & promoting wellbeing in the workplace Ensuring a safe working environment & safe working practices through the Safe Way of Working H&S system Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified. 5 POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Fitter Qualification Competencies Minimum An indentured tradesman (Fitter Turner) with at a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience in the engineering industry Current unendorsed New Zealand driver s licence Demonstrate tradesman Fitter engineering skills in accordance with sound trade practices Has a wide knowledge of mechanical engineering and building services plant, is able to make appropriate decisions to provide permanent-fix long term repairs to building services plant items. Ability to perform welding and engineering work in a timely manner and to meet deadlines as required Able to work safely within secure environments, while maintaining access security and ensuring secure management of tools and machinery. Able to work normal hours including occasional after- hour callouts and overtime when available Ability to work independently Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to quality and customer service Ability to work with other trades and sometimes lead other tradesmen within the multi-trade team environment Contribute positively to the development of the maintenance department Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal and communication skills, being able to relate well with a wide range of people Good understanding of hygiene and good housekeeping principles Flexible, co-operative and have a positive attitude Physically fit, able to use machine tools and handle engineering materials Maturity demonstrated by sound judgement and a common-sense approach Preferred Familiarity with hospitals or large site building plant maintenance Some experience in staff supervision Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - August 2017 Page 5
