1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Post No: Department: Grade: Salary: Hours of Work Tenure: Responsible to: Knowledge Transfer Affiliate (HELI) NH065 Cardiff School of Health Sciences Food Industry Centre 3 B 21,843-22,494 pro rata per annum Full-time and part-time vacancies 1 year Fixed Term Contract Appropriate Academic Supervisor and Industrial Supervisor Role Summary: The Cardiff Metropolitan University Food Industry Centre, in collaboration with Food Innovation Wales, has a series of fixed-term full-time and part-time positions for Knowledge Exchange Affiliates to work within Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) companies in the food manufacturing sector. The Affiliate will work with Industrial Supervisors in approved partner organizations to support projects in a range of areas within this sector of the Welsh economy. Successful applicants will be matched with an appropriate partner organisation based upon best skill mix for the projects so approved and subject to the approval of a second interview with the relevant Industrial Supervisor. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

2 To analyse existing industry practices within the Industrial partners premises and implement interventions that aim to improve business operations. To effectively communicate and report on steps needed to embed improvements within the industrial partners premises in accordance with good management practice and in compliance with relevant legislation and industry technical instructions. To efficiently implement systems via a variety of methods, using a structured approachand to an agreed timetable in line with business objectives. Develop and deliver a programme to embed the principles of the new methodologies to be adopted. Undertake a formal evaluation of the project. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Each project will have additional specific duties and responsibilities commensurate with grade and abilities to be determined by the Industrial supervisor. Such duties and responsibilities will not conflict with the main duties and responsibilities as outlined above. Other associated technical tasks are likely to be performed as directed by the line manager. BSc (Hons) or above in a relevant science subject (e.g. food science, microbiology etc.) Project specific knowledge relating to themes within the Scheme (e.g. food safety/microbiology, technical systems, new product development etc.) Understanding of statutory requirements and their impact upon the working environment. Computer literate, including, information searching, databases and spreadsheets. ASSESSED BY A* I* T*

4 Skills and Abilities relating to role Interpersonal skills to relate to a variety of professionals and food manufacturing personnel in a multi-cultural environment. Experience paid / unpaid Experience paid / unpaid Relevant industrial experience is essential if the education / qualification specifications are not fully met. Experience may include sector specific or exposure to food or food related industries. Industrial work experience in the food industry. Other Requirements Demonstrable ambition to develop a management career in the food industry. Ability to develop working relationships with organisations and business partners. Willingness to undertake further training/development specific to the project goals and objectives. Self-motivation, enthusiasm and ability to work under own initiative. Appreciation of the importance of confidentiality. Other Requirements Ability and willingness to travel to Cardiff Metropolitan University sites and other locations.
