Its vision is to be a 21 st century expression of the old university ideal where a student focus is paramount at the same time as fulfilling the modern tasks of knowledge generation and transfer for the economic, social and cultural benefit of society. Research & nterprise is an innovative department within the university which works with staff, employers, students and graduates to increase graduate employability and external income generation. Graduate level and overall employment of our alumni is critical to the future success of the institution. Significant recent progress has been made in these areas which must be maintained and built upon. As part of a new approach to partnership working with academic colleagues, the Careers and mployability Team have adopted a college based approach. This will raise the profile, and level of engagement with the service from both staff and students, whilst maintaining a flexible team that will come together every week to work on cross-institutional initiatives and central delivery. JOB PURPOS This role will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of Careers ducation within the College of Social Science. The role will be required to work towards established team Key Performance Indicators and seek to develop new methods of delivery to support with School specific employability targets and measures. As a core part of the central Careers & mployability Service, the post holder will liaise closely with the whole team to ensure that we are able to achieve our ambitions to offer a comprehensive and employer engaged careers and employability service to our students and graduates to support the achievement of Institutional employability targets, and KPI s. The role will therefore support the delivery of a Careers & mployability strategy targeted at employers, students and graduates. The implemented strategy will increase employer and student engagement and attendance at events and usage of careers & employability support services overall. The job will require the development of close working relationships and engagement with all key stakeholders to include (but not restricted to) Students, Graduates, mployers, Professional Services and Academic & School Staff to support us in achieving our ambitions of immersing employability and career planning in the University experience and of offering a value added experience for students, helping them to achieve their full potential and ambitions. 2 KY RSPONSIBILITIS Careers ducation and Guidance To provide one to one Careers Guidance to students and graduates, utilising all of our methods of engagement from face to face interactions to e-guidance, skype and group guidance. To design, develop and deliver workshops, lectures and Careers ducation Programmes to be delivered centrally and within the curriculum, to support students career progression whilst being mindful of the strategic objectives of the Careers & mployability Team. To seek to develop events centrally and within the College environment which will gain traction with students within the College of Social Science and enhance their employability, encouraging inter-disciplinary collaboration across the Schools. To be responsive to the needs of students and to consult with key student bodies such as course reps, the students union and societies, gaining an in-depth understanding of distinct disciplines and year groups, and seeking to offer a service which is professional, meets students needs and adds value to their experience. To use School and programme level data, such as the Destination of Leavers from Higher ducation (DLH) data, NSS data and other forms of student feedback to identify opportunities to develop and further embed careers education within programmes of study. To act as a source of expertise and link to the external environment and employers to support with curriculum delivery of Careers ducation, ensuring the establishment of an employer focused and informed careers advisory service embedded within the College. To work in partnership with the whole Careers & mployability team to develop the services and information resources available for students. To uphold a good student experience of our service through the effective implementation of our Service standards, and professional standards as per the QAA quality code and Matrix accreditation. To work with Student Union representatives and societies to support the communication of the Careers and mployability Services to their members. mployer ngagement To proactively engage with employers to support the C& team s employer engagement targets and enhance professional knowledge and expertise of the service. To proactively engage with employers to develop knowledge of local, regional, national and international labour markets and to use this information to inform best practice, information resources, advice and guidance. To work with employers specific for the College s diverse subject disciplines, developing partners across the University to target organisations who could add value to our service and offer student and graduate employment/ work experience opportunities. To work with other departments across the University such as Alumni and procurement to engage with employers where existing relations may already exist to try and evolve and develop those relations to support the Careers & mployability agenda. To use University data sources (e.g. DLH) and Graduate Labour Market Intelligence to target employers which could impact upon the careers & employability strategy. To develop and nurture entrepreneurship within the College by working closely with students, external organisations and internal departments such as the business incubation team to offer support for business start-up. 3 Staff ngagement To work with academic colleagues to offer advice and support in the development of Careers ducation to further embed employability within the curriculum or co-curriculum. To build strong internal networks with all relevant staff to further embed employability activity across all areas and functions of the University e.g. working with alumni to make better use of alumni to support the agenda, working with procurement to engage with employer partners. To support and offer training and information sessions to staff within the College e.g. School staff meetings/ Personal Tutoring forum s to support with the dissemination of information, resources and material to support student s employability. To constantly build a network of internal critical friends to support the employability agenda. Use of Technology To proactively use and embrace new technologies in the delivery of Careers ducation, Information, Advice and Guidance such as careers Virtual learning platforms. To effectively utilise an online CRM system to manage your caseload effectively and keep an accurate record of activities. Additional Duties Participating in the process of collecting graduate destination data through contributing to the central Destination of Leavers from Higher ducation (DLH) process. Contributing towards the achievement of Key Performance Indicators and objectives of the Careers and mployability Team and wider Research and nterprise Department. Taking ownership of central themes and activities to benefit the ongoing development of the services offered by the Careers and mployability Team. To proactively engage with central careers activities, events and team meetings. To support with our institutional requirements such as attendance at open days and evening events on occasion. To take responsibility for your own professional development through engaging with internal and external training programmes, maintaining awareness of labour market (and especially the graduate labour market) information, and engaging with relevant professional bodies and organisations. In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post. Page 3 of 6
