3 Abut Yung ICT Explrers Yung ICT Explrers is a cmpetitin that students in Years 3 12 can prduce a prject that uses Digital Technlgies and/r Infrmatin and Cmmunicatin Technlgies (ICT) t slve a prblem r share a passin. Technlgy is cnstantly evlving and is cnsidered t be an enabler acrss ur cmmunities all ver the wrld. Fr instance, cmputer games can be designed t educate peple n a tpic and websites are widely used t cmmunicate and infrm peple all ver the wrld. The mbile phne has evlved frm being just a telephne t a multipurpse device with features like glbal psitining and access t the internet. The Yung ICT Explrers cmpetitin aims t inspire and encurage students t cnsider a career in the digital technlgies/ict industry and gain a greater understanding f all the pssibilities available. As a student Yu are eligible t participate in Yung ICT Explrers if yu are f schl age in Australia in 2017, in schl years 3 t 12 and can make it t ne f ur judging events (in persn r nline). Just ask yur teacher/parent/guardian t register yur schl/independent entry prject s yur team can take part. Please register yur interest by the 4 th June While yu can wrk by yurself, it is recmmended yu create a team f up t 4 students, as prjects require a lt f time. All f yur team members must be in the same year divisin (see Divisins sectin belw). Once yu are registered and yu have yur team set, the rest is up t yu. Prduce yur best prject related t ICT and submit the reprt by the 23 rd June in Qld, r by the 30 th June in NSW, VIC, ACT, WA, SA and the Online cmpetitin. Remember t check the Yung ICT Explrers website fr mre infrmatin and ideas n prjects yu culd enter. As a Teacher/Parent/Guardian. In Australia in 2017 yu're invited t register grups f up t 4 students per prject team t participate in Yung ICT Explrers. The registratin deadline is the 4 th June All f the team members must be in the same year divisin (see Divisins sectin belw). Yu can enter multiple teams frm yur schl int the cmpetitin. All teams must submit their prject reprt by the 23rd June in Qld, r by 30 th June in NSW, VIC, ACT, WA, SA and the Online cmpetitin. Subject areas We have kept the scpe f the cmpetitin brad t encurage as much creativity as pssible thrugh the use technlgy. We dn t want t limit pssibilities fr prjects that are new and unheard f befre. We welcme all types f prjects prviding they have a clear link t Digital Technlgy/ICT. 5 Prjects in previus cmpetitins have included sme f the fllwing tpics: iphne/mbile phne applicatins Cmputer games Websites Digital media Shrt films and animatins Rbts Arduin/Raspberry Pi Maker prjects Awards In each schl year categry (divisin) prizes will be awarded fr 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Previus years prizes have been 1st prize $150 Vucher fr each team member* 2nd prize $100 Vucher fr each team member* 3rd prize - $50 Vucher fr each team member* *(prizes are subject t change) A trphy will als be awarded in each divisin t the winning team s schl. All accepted entrants will receive a certificate f cmmendatin fr their participatin in the event. Lunch will be prvided fr the registered teachers and students entered in the events. Organisatinal details Registratin prcess We ve established a new registratin prcess including the fllwing steps: 1. As a teacher/parent/guardian frm February 2017 yu can register yur schl/independent team entry and an apprximate number f teams yu may have using ur nline registratin tl. Please nte the last day fr registratin is the 4 th June Once yu re registered, yu can then nminate the teams, uplad their prject details and any attachments by the 23rd June fr the events in Qld r by 30 th June in NSW, VIC, ACT, WA, SA and the Online cmpetitin. (Submissin deadline). Please submit a ZIP file including the fllwing items: Yur prject reprt. (detailed descriptin) It is recmmended t use the reprt template r structure utlined n page 7. Page 5

6 Release and permissin frms. Yu can find these dcuments n ur website in the dwnlad sectin. Please enter the requested details, scan the dcuments and add the scans t the ZIP file. Add all additinal files and details regarding yur prject t the ZIP file as well. If yu need help t generate a PDF r a ZIP file, please have a lk at the dwnlad page f the Yung ICT Explrers website r cntact us fr mre assistance. We dn t need t see the final versin f the prject in the nline submissin (yu have until the Event date (if invited) t keep wrking n it. Cnditins f Entry Entry t the cmpetitin is free. In rder t enter the cmpetitin we require students t: Be f schl age in Australia and able t attend a YICTE event. Enter in the apprpriate schl years categry. Ensure Schls (r independent team) are registered n r befre 4 th June 2017 (registratin deadline) n ur website Have their teacher/parent/guardian submit their prject, which is clearly linked t Digital Technlgies/ICT. Prjects withut a clearly demnstrable link will be ineligible t enter and these entrants will be ntified. Submit a reprt n their prject, we recmmend the template n page 7 r a reprt that is n mre than 15 pages lng and nt greater than 10 MB in size. Entries with missing reprts r reprts that exceed these criteria will nt be accepted. Please see belw fr further details. Submit their prject by the 23 rd June fr the events in Qld r by 30 th June in NSW, VIC, ACT, WA, SA and the Online cmpetitin. Submissins will nt be accepted after the final date f submissin and early submissins are appreciated fr prcessing purpses. Be invited t attend and must accept the invitatin t the judging event in rder t present their prjects. Thse wh d nt accept the invitatin will nt be able t present. Present their wn wrk. Use f materials nt prduced by the team r individual respnsible fr the entry which is nt duly acknwledged thrugh standard referencing, will be deemed as plagiarism. Any entry deemed guilty f plagiarism will be disqualified and will be ineligible fr the judging event and prizes. Enter in grups cnsisting f 1 t 4 students. A team cannt exceed 4 students. All team members must be in the schl year grup fr which they are entering. Submit uncrrupted files. Yung ICT Explrers cannt judge r take respnsibility fr files that are incmplete r crrupted. Prjects must nly have material that is suitable fr all ages, inapprpriate r ffensive prjects will nt be accepted. The decisin f the judges is final. If invited and t be eligible fr the majr prizes, the participants will be required t attend the judging event. In the event that a prject team cnsists f nly ne team member and he/she is unable t attend the judging event, a class mate is able t present n his/her behalf. Page 6

7 Submissin Guidelines: Once yur team is registered, entries shuld be upladed t the cmpetitin website befre midnight the day the submissin deadline ends. Each entry must include a written reprt n the prject. We suggest yu use the templates available, the reprt must nt exceed 15 pages in ttal. Acceptable file types: mp3, mpg, avi, jpg, mv, swf, flv, mp4, html, dc, dcx, pdf, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, iwrk & ilife file frmats. Due t the pssibility f viruses, unacceptable file types are: exe, bat, cm, msi If yu wish t submit anther file type, please cntact the Yung ICT Explrers Organising Team (cntacts fr each state n page 10), t ensure that it can be assessed. The ZIP file cntaining the prject and reprt files cannt exceed 10 MB respectively. Prjects must nly cnsist f material that is suitable fr all ages. Entries that cannt be upladed shuld be clearly represented in the reprt thrugh images and diagrams. Students als have the ptin f submitting a vide r screen-cam (in ne f the file types specified abve) shwing their prject being used. Students wh are unable t uplad their actual prject will nt be penalized during the shrt-listing prcess, prvided that it is clearly presented in the reprt. Thse invited t the judging event will then have the pprtunity t present their prject using their wn equipment, i.e. laptps & speakers. 9 Judging Criteria Each entry will be judged accrding t the fllwing marking criteria: 1. Creativity and Innvatin Hw unique and imaginative is yur idea? Is it new and innvative? Analyze the situatin, identify a need, prpse and develp a slutin fr the defined need. Develp a brief that identifies a simple criteria relating t requirements that make it useful and attractive. Cnsider labeled drawings, mdeling, strybarding, using digital technlgies and multimedia fr presentatins. 2. Quality and Cmpleteness hw well des the prject d what it is prpsed t d? Justify and apply methdical appraches t planning, designing r implementing slutins. Demnstrate cmpetency in a range f practical skills apprpriate t the prject. Apply and explain an understanding f the nature and functin f Digital Technlgies/ICT in yur prject. Are bjectives in the prject met and functins as a wrking prduct? 3. Level f Difficulty hw difficult is yur wrk? Fr example, materials, tls, sftware and equipment used in cnducting investigatins. Develp and apply a plan and sequence fr prductin taking int accunt, time, resurces and crrect techniques. Implementatin f a wrking prduct. 4. Dcumentatin hw much effrt yu have put int yur reprt, psters and yur presentatin? Investigate questins and predictins by cllecting and analyzing data, suggest explanatins fr findings and reflect n the prcesses undertaken. Use methds t thrughly dcument the develpment f the prject. Use creative thinking techniques including brainstrming, sketching and mdeling. Page 9

Ways t examine and apply apprpriate dcumentatin techniques related t the management f the prject. Cmpetitin s Key Dates Launch 2017: February: Event Lcatins annuncement. Registratin deadline: 4 th June Please register yur schl befre this date. Submissin deadline: Submit prject reprts and any attachments by the 23 rd June the events in Qld r by the 30 th June in NSW, VIC, ACT, WA, SA and the Online cmpetitin. (this is the last day yu can submit yur prject reprts.) Judging Event (by invitatin nly) Please find details f the judging events n ur website. Selected prjects will be invited t ur judging events in the respective states, at ur partnering hst Universities. State/Territry Judging Events Upn clse f submissins entries will be reviewed accrding t the cnditins f entry and the judging criteria. Shrtlisted entrants will then be ntified by mail and invited t the cmpetitin judging event t present their prjects. On the day there will be a presentatin ceremny, where yu will get certificates and fr the winners great prizes. Students will be allcated a bth space t display their prject and present t a judging panel using their wn equipment t demnstrate and display their prject i.e. laptp cmputers, speakers etc... A presentatin ceremny will be held at the end f the judging event t present certificates and prizes t the participants and winners fr Page 10

11 Online Judging Cmpetitin. T be able t deliver the cmpetitin t students acrss Australia we will be launching an nline pilt versin f the event this year. Entrants will submit their prject reprts alng with a Vide submissin fr nline judging. The entries will be reviewed by ur judges and then the best prjects in each respective age categry will be invited fr a Skype Judging arund. During the Skype Judging rund the teams will pitch their prject t ur judges virtually (10minutes in duratin). The Online Entry Judges will determine the winners and if the prjects make it thrugh t the Natinal Final. (The tp 3 finalists in each year divisin f the nline event will als win prizes (1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd ) just like the in-persn events) Yung ICT Explrers Online Entry. Vide Submissin guidelines. Entries are via vide demnstratin and dcument submissin. The YICTE Judges will review all nline entries and then invite the best prjects t attend a Skype Judging rund. Where applicable entrants will be cmpeting fr a place at the Natinal Final Event. Prjects are being marked n the YICTE Criteria f Creativity and Innvatin, Quality and Cmpleteness, Dcumentatin and Prject Difficulty. We suggest that teams pitch their prject t a teacher/parent/guardian as a judge s that they can ask any questins if needed. Alng with the vide the team shuld als prvide prject dcumentatin fr the YICTE judges t read. Here are sme example questins t ask the teams abut their prject: What Technlgies did yu use? What prblems ccurred during the prjects develpment and hw did yu reslve them? Did yu create the prject in class time and hw lng did it take yu t create? What was the inspiratin fr yur idea? Any future plans fr this prject? Please make sure the student s vide is n lnger than 8 minutes in duratin. Allwing judges time t lk at any dcumentatin. Please prvide all supprting dcuments and the vide submissin by 30 June at the latest. We suggest sending the vide via drp bx (r similar platfrm) r uplading it t YuTube and prviding the link t view the vide in the submissin. Page 11
