10 MOROCCO Algeria Tunisia Mrcc Algeria Tunisia UN HIGHLIGHTS MOROCCO S POTENTIAL FOR MICRO-HYDROPOWER AND THE COUNTRY S ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROJECTS Mrcc currently has 26 hydr-pwered statins in peratins with a ttal capacity f 1360 MW. Tw majr hydr-electrical pwer-statins are under develpment; the Abdelmumen Pumped Pwer Transfer Statin Prject (STEP) and the Mdez El Menzel Hydrpwer Cmplex, which is designed with a nminal capacity f 125 M. Mrcc was highlighted by the UN as having a particularly high ptential fr micr-hydrpwer plants (prducing ff-grid electricity) and 200 ptential micr-plant sites have already been identified. Mrcc has als set ambitius targets fr energy efficiency f 12% reductin in energy use by 2020 and 15% reductin by 2030 and imprtant prgresses twards these gals have been taken in several dmain such as the building sectr. This amunts t 4 % f current electricity prductin in Tunisia. Capacity is prjected t increase further t 692 MW by Hydrpwer utput was 110 GWh in 2012, with a ptential fr micr-hydrpwer develpment. In 2009, the sensible use f energy became a natinal pririty. The Natinal Fund fr Energy Cnservatin (FNME) prvides financial supprt t energy efficency prjects. Since its creatin in 2005, the fund has had an average grwth rate f 15 millin USD and had until 2011 allcated 65 millin USD.
