2 PEACE RIVER REGIONAL DISTRICT Employment Opportunity LAND USE PLANNER The Peace River Regional District is accepting applications for a full time Land Use Planner. Working from our branch office in Fort St. John, BC, responsibilities will include processing and review of development applications, responding to public inquiries and provincial government referrals. There will also be opportunity to conduct and assist with planning research projects, and bylaw development. Covering an area of about 119,000 square kilometres in northeastern BC, the Peace River Regional District is comprised of 7 member municipalities and 4 electoral areas, representing a population of just over 56,000, including a rural population of 20,500. The region offers a diversity of interests and opportunities with an affordable lifestyle. Preferred candidates should have a post secondary degree in planning or a related discipline and two years of related experience. Applicants should demonstrate a working knowledge of planning practice, planning bylaws and government regulations. Applicants should communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with elected officials, other employees and the public. The abilities to recognize and address community interests, meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while paying attention to detail are also preferred qualities. A valid BC driver s license is necessary as well as some proficiency operating personal computers. Knowledge of local government bylaws, associated provincial and federal statutes including the BC Local Government Act and the Agricultural Land Reserve Act, is a definite asset. Eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC is also desirable. This is a unionized position currently paying $22.39 per hour, based on a 35 hour work week. We are seeking the skills and experience of a dedicated team leader who can step in and manage a group of individuals who are well known for providing a high level of quality service to the residents and businesses of Stony Plain. This is a challenging position which includes the following areas of responsibility: Managing operational and capital budgets, long term planning and forecasting for capital expenditures, supervising both union and non-union staff, coordinating departmental activities in the areas of parks, utilities (water, sanitary, storm and solid waste), roads, facilities, and vehicle/equipment maintenance. The District of Hudson s Hope invites applications from qualified persons for the full-time position of General Trades. The successful candidate will be assigned to work at the Arena during the fall and winter seasons, so preference will be given to those applicants with a valid Fifth Class Power Engineer s Certificate of Competency (Refrigeration Endorsement) or any other Power Engineer s Certificate of Competency higher than Fifth Class. A shift schedule is established to meet the hours of operation at the Hudson s Hope Arena, which involves a 37½-hour workweek including Saturday and Sunday. During the spring and summer season, the successful candidate will be assigned to operate a variety of equipment and perform many assignments related to water supply, sewage disposal, storm drainage, roadway maintenance and construction, recreation facilities and municipal services. This position is included in the Collective Agreement; accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to become a member of the BC Government & Service Employees Union. The established rate of pay for this position is $21.96 per hour ($19.76/hr. during the 90-day probationary period). Typical Duties: In addition to those prescribed by statute or other by-laws or resolution of Council, the powers, duties and responsibilities of the Water & Sewer Operator II are: 1. Knowledge and experience in storm water management. 4. Knowledge of methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and construction of utilities. 5. Ability to analyze equipment problems and take corrective action. 6. Ability to work well with other employees, representatives of business, and the general public. 7. Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports and to maintain records. 8. Ability to understand oral and written instructions, sketches, plans, and worksheets. 9. Good manual dexterity and ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude. 10. Ability to perform work involving considerable physical endurance. Qualifications: 1. Water Distribution Certification Level II, Waste Water Collection Certification Level II, Waste Water Treatment Certification Level I and Water Treatment Plant Certification Level II, as per the BC Environmental Operators Certification Program. 2. The applicant, reporting to the Accounting Manager, will have strong analytical skills including experience using spreadsheets and macros.
