Our vision is to help people make choices that reduce their chances of developing cancer. From this vision our mission was born to: - Fund research on the relationship of nutrition, physical activity and weight management to cancer risk; - Interpret the accumulated scientific literature in the field; - Educate and inform people about the choices they can make to reduce their chances of developing cancer. Through research we have revolutionized the understanding about the prevention of cancer. Learning more about the link between nutrition and lifestyle and the risk of cancer is essential to our mission. Knowledge makes us stronger against cancer. Another crucial part of our mission is adapting scientific research into simple and easy to follow health information. Our goal is that this information will help people make informed lifestyle choices that could reduce their chances of developing cancer and help them to live healthy lives free from cancer. Our pioneering work has made a major contribution in focusing attention on the link between cancer and the choices people make about nutrition and lifestyle. Wereld Kanker Onderzoek Fonds is a member of the WCRF Global Network The World Cancer Research Fund global network is an international alliance of organisations dedicated to the prevention and control of cancer through healthy diets and lifestyles. The network comprises World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF International), an umbrella association based in the UK, and its member organisations - national charities based in different countries. Current members of our network operate in the United States of America, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. We believe that greater impact can be achieved when allied organisations work together. The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) global network, of which WKOF is a part, is dedicated to revolutionizing our understanding of cancer prevention. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Reporting to: Division: Location: Hours: Duration: Health Information Officer Head of Communications and Health Information Health Information department Weesperstraat,1018 VN AMSTERDAM 37,5 hrs/week (5 days per week) One year fixed-term contract with prospect of permanent employment General background Health Information department The Health Information department plays a crucial role in our mission to adapt findings of scientific research into simple, practical and easy to follow health information. Our goal is that this information will help people make informed choices in their diet and lifestyle that could reduce their chances of developing cancer or increase the chances of survival and quality of life of cancer patients. Objective of Post The post of Health Information Officer has a hands-on and operational character. The Health Information Officer is responsible for the realization of the department objectives and the daily activities. Together with other health information staff the post holder works on and delivers high quality and effective health information products, services and programmes. The post holder is also responsible for promotion of these products, services and programmes in order to increase reach and impact. Place in the organisation The Health Information Officer reports directly to the Head of Communications and Health Information. The post holder works closely with and provides health information knowledge and resources to other departments of the organisation such as fundraising, communications and operations when required. In addition there will be liaison with other members of the WCRF global network. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Newsletters (print and digital) Draft yearly newsletter content plans Draft editor outline for each newsletter Organize staff brainstorm sessions Write content for the newsletters (including translating) Research and source suitable images and photos Support and coordinate the design of newsletters (including selection of images) Track, analyse and report on progress and results Identify areas for improvement and make recommendations Promote newsletters to increase reach Manage fulfilment and follow up of (information) requests through newsletters Result: Newsletters have been developed and approved according to timeline. Fulfilment of ordered items through newsletters is done timely and according to procedure. 2. Health Information Support and Contribute to the development of plans and ideas for new health information materials, tools, services and programmes (publications/health aids/online tools etc,) Coordinate the development of new publications and health aids Write texts for new publications (including translations) Provide health information to all departments, including health information for joint activities such as direct mailings and advertorials Ensure copy review and approval procedures are followed (quality and evidence based) Reviews health information communication channels (such as website) and identifies opportunities for improvement Ensure accuracy of the online health information 3
4 Provide regular ideas and updates for the websites Track, analyse and report on progress and results Manage the stock of health information materials Promote health information products, services and programmes Coordinate fulfilment of requests with the fulfilment house Inform WKOF staff of health information updates Distribute copies of new materials and ensure visibility in the meeting room and other office areas Answer questions of the public about food, nutrition, physical activity, weight management and cancer prevention and survival Represent WKOF at exhibitions, fairs and conferences Give presentations about our work and health information Result: Health information materials, tools, services and programmes are developed and produced timely and in accordance with policy, plans and procedures. Fulfilment of ordered materials is done timely and according to procedure. Health information input is provided to all departments. 4. Account and relationship management Maintain internal work relations Maintain external work relations (including contacts with suppliers) Result: Internal and external work relations are managed effectively and professionally. 5. Other responsibilities Work on other areas as directed by management Support any implementation, development or improvement as directed by the Head of Communications and Health Information Result: Ad hoc challenges are addressed promptly and professionally. 4
5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Knowledge and Skills Minimum HBO/WO thinking and working level. Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar position. Excellent grasp of written and spoken Dutch and English and a keen eye for detail. Excellent communication skills. Experience of writing and producing high quality materials, corporate publications and or web content. A feel for image and design to support and enhance copy. Excellent networker. Works well both independently and in teams. Genuine interest and commitment to healthy living, health promotion and health related organisations. Affinity with the non-profit sector is a must. BENEFITS INFORMATION Annual leave The WKOF holiday (annual leave) year runs from 1 st January to 31 st December. Annual entitlement for fulltime staff (at 37.5 hour week) is in relation to length of service: - Less than 1 year of service at the start of the New Year: 25 days - From 1 to 2 years in service at the start of the New Year: 26 days - From 3 to 4 years in service at the start of the New Year: 28 days - From 5 years' service at the start of the New Year: 30 days Pension scheme We have a voluntary pension scheme available. Employees contribute 2% of their pensionable earnings and employers contribute 4% of their pensionable earnings for a total of 6%. Accident insurance We cover all employees for accidents equal to 2 times their annual salary with a maximum of on death and 4 times their annual salary with a maximum of for permanent disability resulting from an accident. Private healthcare We offer a fixed compensation for healthcare of employees. The compensation is 28,67 gross per full time employment. Travel benefit Any distance travelled over 7km to work is reimbursed to the employee at a rate of 0,19 per km. Business travel insurance All employees travelling for business are covered under WKOF s business travel insurance, which covers cost of illness, accident or death, travel including computer equipment. Core Business Hours The core business hours are from 9:30am till 4:45pm when all employees must be present. Employees may arrive for work between 8:30am and 9.30am and leave between 4:45am and 5:45pm. A 45-minute lunch should be taken. Holiday pay 8% of salary Employees have the right to an annual holiday allowance of 8% of their gross annual salary. 6
