The Division of Parks Recreations mission is to enhance the quality of life through exceptional outdoor recreational experiences sound resource management. ABOUT THE DIVISION OF PARKS RECREATION Ohio's 75 state parks provide more than 1,000 miles of woodland trails 64 lakes where visitors can

3 hike, bike, boat, swim, fish, hunt or just unwind enjoy nature. Recreational facilities include 18-hole golf courses, disc golf, dog parks, archery ranges more. Ohio State Parks also offer theme campouts, special events celebrations of Ohio's heritage, along with fun educational naturalist programs. Gathering spaces, from outdoor picnic shelters gazebos to meeting rooms day lodges, provide places for families groups to host reunions special functions in scenic settings. Most of our park areas are open year-round, admission is free. Fifty-six Ohio State Park campgrounds offer camping experiences as diverse as the parks, with a mix of secluded tent sites rustic facilities, as well as electric full-hookup sites in campgrounds with all the amenities. Dozens of getaway rentals provide a highly affordable option for a vacation or weekend outing. Hundreds of woodland lakeside vacation cottages offer the comforts of home, close to outdoor adventures. Guest rooms in eight full-service lodge conference centers promise a relaxing escape surrounded by natural beauty. Ohio's State Nature Preserves protect more than 30,000 acres of l with ecological or geologic significance. These natural areas serve as sanctuaries for rare plants animals, feature some of the finest remnants of Ohio's natural heritage. Nature preserve staff, along with volunteers, protect environmental quality preserve enhance biological diversity at these natural areas through invasive species management, stream monitoring research. RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ASSISTANT PARK MANAGER 4 POSITION INCLUDE: Acts as assistant manager within the Northwest District (i.e., East Harbor, Harrison Lake, Maumee Bay, Catawba Island, Marblehead, Mary Jane Thurston, Van Buren, Independence Dam, South Bass Island, Middle Bass Island, North Bass Island) headquartered at South Bass Island State Park: plans and directs all satellite park operations at South Bass Island State Park; assumes responsibility for park in absence of manager; supervises assigned staff (e.g., recruits, interviews, hires, provides training and technical assistance, conducts performance evaluations); assigns duties and plans work schedules adhering to the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association [OCSEA] contract; assists with park budgeting (e.g., reviews staffing levels, projects costs, interprets purchasing guidelines, tracks spending, prepares and reviews reports, tracks revenue, reviews income, reviews and approves payroll); oversees park planning (e.g., sets goals, suggests new approaches to improve customer service); monitors and organizes budgetary and fiscal operations (e.g., sets expenditure limits in areas of responsibility, oversees processing of invoices and payment of expenses, accountable for staying within allocated budget, oversees park compliance with budgeted funds); compiles reports; provides excellent customer service (e.g., resolves visitor complaints/issues, develops local policies and procedures, provide staff training, empower staff); provides leadership (e.g., promotes team building, supportive, delegates work, communicates to staff); oversees natural resources management (e.g., monitoring of water quality, invasive species, tree health); manages partnerships (e.g., attends meetings, seeks out new partnerships, fosters friends groups, organizes volunteers); directs community outreach; grant management (e.g., seeks out grants, applies for grants, documents grant related expenses), project management (e.g., monitor project deadlines, communicates with staff, identify potential issues); participates in strategic planning (e.g., identifies goals and action steps, tracks progress, measures successes); ensures compliance with department and division policies and procedures operates state vehicle to travel throughout district. Coordinates maintenance, campground, and merchandising operations: implements long and short range plans; prepares reports; maintains records (e.g., revenue summary, inventory, dock rentals); oversees campground operation (e.g., determines operating hours and staff rules, reservation and

4 registration system, strives for accurate reservations, preserves current revenue streams, evaluates and recommends operational improvements); oversees inventory of camp store merchandise (e.g. makes sure items are stocked properly, ensures expired products are removed timely, approves orders for new merchandise, updates procedures for merchandise sales in camp store, develops merchandise and product price guidelines, encourages innovation and revenue enhancements); oversees volunteer program (e.g., recruits, holds meetings, assigns projects); ensures excellent customer service (e.g., provides information to visitors, handles complaints and visitor problems, income processing and record keeping); oversees maintenance operation (e.g., facility and area maintenance and cleaning, accountable for compliance with division, department, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration [OSHA] rules and regulations, reviews plans and drawings; holds safety meetings, inspects facilities and sets maintenance priorities, monitors maintenance of roads, trails, grounds and equipment, conducts annual building inspection and addresses necessary repairs or improvements, implements and promotes safety procedures, evaluates and recommends park facility improvements, monitors use of equipment, arranges equipment to be delivered and picked up from work site); provides technical assistance (e.g., reads and interprets blueprints and schematics, analyzes technical problems for electrical, mechanical and carpentry projects); monitors inventory control; conducts vehicle and structure inspections; holds safety meetings and trains employees in equipment safety; handles Fleet Management program (e.g., delegates record keeping, collects information, distributes reports). Coordinates and conducts park programs and special events (e.g., campouts, festivals, tours, hikes, travel shows); represents park and attends and speaks at community functions; meets with park interest groups; answers written and verbal inquiries; performs maintenance duties (e.g., operates power tools and equipment); operates power tools and equipment; attends and participates in conferences, training, and meetings (e.g., annual manager conference, district and park meetings, safety meetings); responds to public inquiries (e.g., by phone, , in person); may drive state vehicle from area to area of park, district, state to perform job duties (e.g., drive to work site, attend training and meetings). Minimum Qualifications: Completion of graduate major core program in a natural resources related field, business administration, criminal justice or related field commensurate with program area(s) to be assigned as outlined per approved position description on file; 12 months experience in a natural resources related field, business administration, criminal justice or related field commensurate with program area(s). -Or completion of undergraduate major core program in a natural resources related field, business administration, criminal justice or related field commensurate with program area(s) to be assigned as outlined per approved position description on file; 24 months experience in a natural resources related field, business administration, criminal justice or related field commensurate with program area(s). -Or 48 months training or 48 months experience in a natural resources related field, business administration, criminal justice or related field commensurate with program area(s) to be assigned as outlined per approved position description on file. -Or 12 months experience as Assistant Park Manager 3, NOTE: If assigned to work as park officer, must also hold Ohio Peace Officer Training Council certificate. For positions assigned to perform law enforcement duties, applicants must successfully pass background check by appointing authority which includes polygraph, psychological and medical examination. Applicant must demonstrate physical fitness as outlined in department directive. Final applicant accepted for position will be required to submit to

Skilled in: word processing (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access), equipment operation (personal computer, general office equipment [e.g., telephone, copier, fax, calculator], point-ofsale reservation system, motor boats, audio-visual equipment, 2-way radio, hand and power tools, chainsaws, string trimmers, tractors, mowers, motor boats, vehicles). Ability to: define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, understand system of mechanical or other procedure (wiring, plumbing); calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; prepare and delivers speeches before specialized audiences and general public; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public; establish friendly atmosphere as supervisor of work unit; demonstrate physical fitness (e.g., walks long distances on uneven terrain, able to lift up to 25 lbs., ability to climb in the back of pick up to unload firewood).
