Some companies may have established a combined Employment Equity and Skills Development Committee. In order to ensure committee members understand their function and role AMSI has developed a training intervention to be delivered in-house at your company. This one day intervention has been designed as an informative and interactive session where delegates are afforded an opportunity of discussing with the facilitator and with each other, real live everyday issues related to their activities as committee members. We recently saw the release of the latest report of the Commission for Employment Equity. The Commission head stated that racism still exists and EE is not being enforced in the workplace as legislated. The Labour Minister's has once again promised to 'name and shame' companies that aren't making progress or complying with the letter and spirit of the Employment Equity Act. This hands on programmes fulfils the requirements of the act while at the same time fulfilling the requirements of the SETAS in relation to the payment of grants and the need for a Skills Development forum. Workshop outline This intervention deals with issues forum members should be familiar with and clarifies various areas that might impact on the effective functioning of the forum. The workshop will provide an overview of all topics and will be interactive and hands on. Adequate time will be given to participants to raise queries and concerns. The workshop will include updates related to EE and Skills Development and implementation strategies that should be adhered to. This is also an ideal refresher workshop for current members and HR staff. 5 Brief Professional Biographies of Presenters Des Squire is the Managing member of AMSI and ASSOCIATES cc a company specialising in Education, Training and Development. They offer a HR /IR/SDP consultancy service as well as mentoring and coaching. As managing member of this entity Des has been involved in training facilitation, assessment and Moderation since inception. Des is currently finalising his advanced studies in Occupationally Directed Education Training and Development practices. He is registered as an assessor, moderator and verifier with various SETA s SPECIAL ATTRIBUTES AND INTERESTS Des is a freelance writer and speaker on topics such as HIV/AIDS, Corporate Governance, Ethics, Life Skills ODETD Practices and general HR issues He has had many articles published in the press, Skills Portal, Skills Universe, HR futures magazine and Labour law for managers. Des has written three books on life skills, HIV/AIDS and Life related issues for school leavers and has published a book for school leavers called Schools over what now? Charles Cotter Independent Training Facilitator/L&D Strategist Charles is an independent training facilitator and learning and development strategist with over 13 years industry experience in the field of human resources development. Essentially, he s an expert trainer, conference speaker, management consultant, lecturer, strategic planning facilitator, assessor and learning materials developer. Xolisa Boqwana Xolisa is a former Group Talent Development &Senior Employment Equity Manager.He is the Chairperson of the Pharmaceuticals and Fast Moving Consumable Goods (FMCG) Chamber at the CHIETA SETA. As a seasoned Human Resource Development Practitioner he has gained a lot of practical experience in the Health, Mining and Manufacturing sectors over the past 16 years. He holds a B Admin Degree in Personnel Management from the University of Transkei UNITRA (now called Walter Sisulu University), a Masters Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Rand Afrikaanse Universiteit- RAU (now University of Johannesburg) and other Post-grad certificates such as a Management Advancement Programme Certificate from the Wits Business School, a Labour Relations Certificate from University of Witwatersrand and Corporate Governance Certificate from University of South Africa. Speaker Changes Occasionally it is necessary for reasons beyond our control to alter the content and timing of the program or the identity of the speakers. If SkilllingSA cancels an Event, delegate payments at the date of cancellation will be credited to a SkillingSA Event (such credit is available for up to one year from the date of cancellation). If SkillingSA postpones an Event, delegate payments at the postponement date will be credited towards the rescheduled Event. If the delegate is unable to attend the rescheduled Event, the delegate will receive a full credit of amounts paid up to the date of postponement which may only be redeemed against the cost of any future SkillingSA Event (and such credit will be available for one year from the date of postponement). No cash refunds whatsoever are available for cancellations or postponements.
