3 JOB SCRIPTION Job Title: Research Facilitator Human Tissue epartment /ivision/unit: Research Governance and Integrity Office Faculty/Professional Service: Secretary and Registrar, xecutive Office Location: Keppel Street Reports to: Head of Research Governance and Integrity Responsible for: N/A Full Time/Part Time/Casual: Fixed contract: 2 years Hours: 35 Grade: 6 About the post This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated Research Governance professiona committed to delivering a high standard of compliance and support systems and infrastructu to ensure LSHTM s continued compliance with the Human Tissue Act. Working as part of the Research Governance and Integrity team, the focus of the role will be ensure the state of compliance with the Human Tissue Act and any associated location and/ international regulations for activities, processes and functional teams. The Research Governance and Integrity Office consists of the Head of Research Governanc and Integrity, a Research Facilitator specialising in clinical trials and NHS research an Research Governance Coordinator and Administrator. Your main duties will include assisting with samples and ensuring that a database is maintaine of all samples currently held at LSHTM; acting as an initial contact for Human tissue sample acquisition; and ensuring that there is an accurate inventory, tracking and reporting on th acquisition, transformation, transfer and destruction of human tissue samples. You will also b expected to be an as an advisor to relevant research teams and proactively work with them identify and deliver quality improvements through regular audits of the stored samples. You w also be required to develop and maintain relevant documentation to comply with the HTA Cod of Practice requirements. This post will act as the LSHTM Persons esignated under th Human Tissue Act. The postholder is expected to cover for the Research Facilitat specialising in clinical trials and NHS research as required, and vice versa. Alongside your specific duties, you will be expected to work as part of the Research Integr and Governance team to ensure the effective and efficient running of the service. While mo of the role will be based in an office setting, previous experience of working or studying in laboratory would be an asset. Your office hours will generally be 9am to 5pm although some of our shifts require an 9.30am start with a 5.30pm finish, or a 8.30am start with a 4.30pm finish.

4 Principal uties and Responsibilities 1. Assist the esignated Individual to ensure that LSHTM complies with the Human Tissues Act and any associated local and/or international regulations for activities, processes and functional teams. 2. evelop and maintain an accurate database of all Human Tissue samples LSHTM. 3. Assist in the acquisition, development and roll-out of a new tissue tracking software system 4. evelop, review, maintain and test appropriate policies and procedures to ensure the appropriate acquisition, transfer, storage and destruction of Human Tissue samples under the terms of the Human Tissue Act. 5. Advise and support researchers and research teams on processes and procedures associated with working with human tissue. 6. nsure that all research involving human tissue has in place all appropriate permissions before the research projects starts. This includes relevant ethical approvals. 7. evelop and maintain documentation to comply with HTA code of Practice requirements 8. Conduct research audits and spot checks in laboratories and freezer archives to confirm compliance with the Human Tissue Act, School policies and procedures, including informed consent of material to be stored under the School s licence 9. Work as part of the Research Governance and Integrity team to respond to Human Tissue Authority inspections and corrective and preventive action plans from inspections, as needed. 10. Act as a Persons esignated (P) role under the LSHTM licence 11. Act as cover for all other roles in the Research Governance and Integrity Office, namely the Research Facilitator specialising in clinical trials and NHS research. 12. Undertake any other duties as reasonably delegated by your line manager 13.
