1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Post Number: Department: Location: Grade: Salary: Hours: Tenure: Accountable to: Deputy Head of Unit: Quality Assessment (Maternity Cover) TT010XM Academic Standards and Quality Unit Llandaff Campus Grade 7AB/8AB 37,394-42,067/ 43,325-50,200 per annum pro rata 37 hours per week Fied term maternity cover for up to 12 months or until the post holder returns whichever date is sooner Head of Unit Academic Standards and Quality Unit Role Summary: The Deputy Head of Unit: Quality Assessment will take overall responsibility for managing two, comple work-streams across home programmes and collaborative provision: (i) Approval, Periodic Review and Curriculum Change and (ii) Annual Monitoring and Review. The post-holder will be responsible for managing and overseeing the application of the University s quality assessment systems across all credit-bearing provision including: undergraduate/postgraduate taught programmes, postgraduate research programmes and short course provision. This will also encompass all modes of study (e.g. full-time, part-time, blended learning, distance learning, flying faculty model). The Deputy Head of Unit will apply specialist knowledge and eperience in managing the further development and application of quality assessment processes for collaborative provision (including Wales-based Further Education partners) ensuring that such processes are both rigorous and responsive to business needs.

2 Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Work closely with Senior Standards and Quality Officers to oversee the appropriate delegation of caseloads across the two work-streams including the activity listed below. (i) (ii) Approval, Periodic Review and Curriculum Change including: Partner approval Campus approval Validation Franchise approval PSRB approval/accreditation Articulation approval Periodic Review Elective Review Cyclical evaluation of research degrees Partner Review Modification processes Annual Monitoring and Review including: Annual Programme Reports Eternal Eaminers (e.g. appointment, payment, induction, reports, responses) Link tutors and Moderators (e.g. induction, training, reports, responses) Annual Articulation Reports and maintenance of an Articulation Register Pearson s Licence Annual Report Action plan follow-ups Take responsibility for ensuring that high quality support, guidance and advice are provided to Schools and their partners on all matters relating to the application and review of quality assessment processes. Oversee the activity within both work-streams and work closely with the Senior Standards and Quality Officers to ensure comparable quality assessment processes are applied across domestic programmes and collaborative provision. Manage the regular review of quality assessment processes ensuring they are fit-for-purpose including ensuring that processes pertaining to collaborative provision are agile and responsive to business needs without compromising on rigour, and advising the Head of Unit of any process amendments required. Act as the primary conduit for information flow between the Academic Standards and Quality Unit and the Partnership Office (within the International Office) and between the Academic Standards and Quality Unit and the Quality Officers in collaborative partners, DDLTs and Associate Deans International in order to ensure clear communication relating to quality assessment matters.

3 Oversee and monitor any necessary communication between staff in the Quality Assessment work-stream and collaborative partners to ensure streamlined and effective communication processes. Take the lead in preparing Schools and their partners for eternal audit and review of overseas partners and Wales-based FE partners and make a significant contribution to the preparation of eternal audit and review of home programmes. Travel overseas as necessary to ensure high quality support of events and to undertake work related to collaborative provision quality assessment including staff development. Plan, co-ordinate and deliver staff development for internal and partner staff and eternal eaminers as required. Work closely with the Dean of Quality and Standards and members of the Academic Standards and Quality Unit management team to make a significant contribution towards the Unit s agreed strategic priorities and corporate drivers. Chair, or be a member of, a range of committees and working groups relevant to the area of the business, including the Collaborative Provision Committee. Produce analytical and focused written reports and present these at boards and committees and to eternal audiences as required. Be proactive in staying abreast of sector developments and current research relating to quality assessment (including TNE) and use this knowledge to inform strategy and practice. Undertake line management responsibilities (e.g. line management of the Senior Standards and Quality Officer (Approval, Periodic Review and Curriculum Change) and the Senior Standards and Quality Officer (Annual Monitoring and Review). Deputise for the Head of Unit as required. Working closely with the Deputy Head of Unit: Audit and Communication, plan and oversee regular (at least monthly) meetings of staff across the Quality Assessment and Audit and Communication teams in order to share epertise and best practice and promote broad-based knowledge of staff across workstreams. Be a source of epertise on all quality assessment matters including the University s own processes and procedures, eternal audit and review requirements and reference points including the UK Quality Code, with a particular emphasis on those pertaining to collaborative provision.

4 Take a significant role in developing and promoting the Unit as a centre of ecellence that is eternally-orientated and informed by sector-leading practice and current research/scholarship in the area of quality assessment. Working closely with the Deputy Dean: Quality and Standards to analyse data arising from collaborative provision, particularly focusing on matters of equivalence between programmes delivered domestically and through collaborative provision arrangements. Manage delegated projects or act as a senior member representing the Academic Standards and Quality Unit on projects managed by others. Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Unit, commensurate with the grade of the post.
