3 Purpose of the role : The purpose of this role is to provide public health leadership and technical expertise in key projects and work programmes within the DHB and in particular the funding team. Provision of leadership for key strategic initiatives will be a major purpose as will the promotion of a population based and evidence-based approach. KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES Health Strategy Development Contribute to the DHB's strategic development in relation to locality, approach and provision of services Contribute to enhanced service integration, design and development of existing and new services Contribute to DHB strategic direction consistent with the NZ Health Strategy, NZ Disability strategy and other government policies. Service Development Assist in the investigation, assessment, and evaluation of primary and secondary care services Assist with prioritisation and service funding management processes at the DHBs Provide public and population health expertise and strategic advice to the DHBs to ensure they takes a population health approach in its service planning and funding and that their strategic direction is aligned with the NZ Health Strategy, NZ Disability Strategy and government policy To provide expert advice to support evidence based commissioning, prioritisation of services for the population (and in some circumstances for the individual) in order to maximise opportunities for health. To be responsible for the development and implementation of public health plans and programmes as required Health Gain Activities Measuring and monitoring the performance of the DHBs in achieving health gain / better health activities Liaise with national and regional agencies, Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - Page 3

4 KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES groups, consumers, clinicians and others in providing public health advice Provide needs analysis and prioritisation by supervising and assisting in the investigation, assessment and monitoring of the health status and needs of Auckland residents, any factors adversely affecting the health status of that population and their needs Performance Improvement Contribute to ensuring the success of specific quality improvement programmes across the health system Apply skills and knowledge of literature and evidence to ensure we sponsor best practice. Deliver analysis and reporting in a timely manner. Reducing inequalities and population health gain Ensure all projects have a focus on reducing health inequalities and lead to measurable health gain Service Review Review services on a regular basis to ensure that the services delivered meet the needs of the population Strategic and business planning process Develop health outcome indicators and provide specific issues advice and routine analytic support to PFO Team Contribute to the goals of the DHBs and the PFO Unit by producing high-quality reports and oral presentations when needed Write or contribute to relevant board reports and Ministry of Health reports as required Contribute to DHB and regional planning processes Positive and constructive relationships Working in close collaboration with the other service ADHB Waitemata DHB staff Stakeholders have a known point of contact within ADHB Waitemata DHB To take the lead role in developing interagency and interdisciplinary short and longterm strategic plans for securing health improvement both in the general population and in vulnerable groups at high risk of poor Waitemata District Health Board -JOB DESCRIPTION - Page 4
