1 Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership JOB DESCRIPTION Project Manager Alumni and Post 16 Activities (12 Month Fixed Term) MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB 1. The post holder will maintain and grow an alumni network of young people who have benefitted from Tower Hamlets EBP projects and programmes. 2. The post holder will manage and deliver a portfolio of events to current Sixth Form students. These events will provide post 16 students with information, advice and skill development to make a success of life after Sixth Form College. 3. The post holder will be expected to devise new workshops and activities for Post 16 events and activities, and improve the effectiveness of existing activities. The post holder will support colleagues with delivery on other Post 16 programmes. 4. The post holder will plan and deliver an annual, large scale, Pathways to Apprenticeships event in Tower Hamlets that focuses on promoting advanced and higher level school leaver opportunities. 5. The post holder will also develop and maintain links between employers and Tower Hamlets Secondary Schools/Sixth Forms, supporting volunteer recruitment and employer engagement. CONTEXT Tower Hamlets EBP is a charity that supports the education, training and development of young people by forming mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses, employers and schools. Bringing business and schools together to help young people Learn more, Do more and Become More. Tower Hamlets EBP delivers a range of projects and programmes to: Raise the aspirations and confidence of young people to help them develop a broader sense of future careers beyond those offered by the disadvantaged economic and social context of Tower Hamlets.

2 Through engagement with successful working adults and exposure to local employers, equip young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain access to the World of Work. Support and encourage student academic achievement. Foster and support productive links and partnerships between businesses/employers and schools. Reports to: Senior Manager of the Employability, Enterprise and Financial Skills Team. The post holder will work with the Employability, Enterprise and Financial Skills Team, as well as part of the overall Tower Hamlets EBP team with specific responsibility for the areas outlined in the Job Description. These areas may change through negotiation with the EBP senior management team. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Essential: Educated to degree level. A minimum of 3 years work experience preferably in a teacher, trainer, facilitator or events delivery role and/or working with children or young adults. Experience of managing a project or programme with multiple stakeholders. IT literate with experience of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Understanding/knowledge of databases and how they can be utilised. Good understanding of social media channels e.g. Twitter and LinkedIn. An understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities. Desirable: Familiar with education and have knowledge of business education activity and or/employability skills agenda. Experience of working with schools. Experience of working with volunteers and knowledge of volunteering good practice. Experience of supporting community organisations or individuals. Knowledge of the youth employment agenda and the labour market opportunities for young people.

COMPETENCIES & SKILLS Communication: Confident and engaging public speaker; able to present complex information in a simple and concise way. Creative: Ability to create activities and workshops that engage, up-skill and inform young people using principles of experiential learning. Project management: Strong project management, planning, administrative and organisational skills. The ability to organise a large scale event desirable. Prioritise: Ability to work under pressure and identify priorities and schedules of own or others daily work. Must be able to effectively deliver against set targets to agreed deadlines. Interpersonal skills: - Ability to relate to young people from all walks of life and a passion to help them reach their potential. - Able to negotiate, persuade, problem solve and be flexible. Be able to form good relationships with a range of people from different types of background and at different levels of hierarchy. - Show self-motivation and drive for promoting and developing links between businesses/employers and schools in Tower Hamlets. - Friendly and approachable with a can do positive outlook. Team work: Strong team player, sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues, able to collaborate and support. Initiative: A self-starter with ability to direct own work in an organised and motivated way. Solution focused and able to resolve issues independently. Writing skills: Ability to articulate messages clearly and concisely in an engaging style consistent with Tower Hamlet s EBP brand. Ability to write for a variety of audiences. Customer care skills: Excellent people skills with the confidence to respond to positive or negative feedback from young people, volunteers and businesses/employers in a professional and diplomatic manner. People Management: Ability to manage administrative staff supporting the Enterprise, Employability and Financial Skills programmes and events. Thorough: Displays an attention to detail. Punctual and reliable.

4 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Main duties: Support and continue to grow an alumni network of young people who have benefitted from Tower Hamlets EBP projects and programmes. Maintain and update when necessary structures, systems and processes to recruit students to the alumni group. Maintain communications with the alumni and tracking them through utilising the Tower Hamlets EBP CRM database and other formats such as LinkedIn. Meet agreed targets with the Senior Manager for numbers of post 16 students who need to be registered as part of the alumni group within the first 12 months. In partnership with Tower Hamlets EBP s PR & Comms Manager, agree upon and follow a communications strategy to assist in the promotion Alumni Network. Plan and deliver an annual, large scale, Pathways to Apprenticeships event in Tower Hamlets that focuses on promoting advanced and higher level school leaver opportunities. Manage and develop Post 16 events, projects and programmes as directed by the Senior Programmes Manager. Deliver and facilitate workshops and events. Chair/lead events, deliver classroom based lessons, facilitate volunteer/student work, etc. Write/create new workshops and activities while updating and evaluating existing ones; continually review content and structure of activities, taking input from schools/sixth forms and business supporters. Ensure activities provide an informative, rewarding and enjoyable experience to both young people and volunteers. Research and incorporate current trends, thinking and Government policy around Post 16 pathways and opportunities. Ensure that all Tower Hamlets Secondary Schools and Colleges are offered Post 16 events and activities. Promote these activities to ensure secondary schools and colleges use our services. Make sure that activities are evaluated using Tower Hamlets EBP evaluation systems. Keep funders abreast of progress on their funded projects. Produce and distribute an Annual Report on Tower Hamlets EBP Post 16 activities, along with summaries and programme updates throughout the financial year. Working with the Volunteer Engagement Co-ordinator, ensure there is sufficient employer/volunteer support for activities; publicise events to employers, recruit volunteers, etc. Collect and collate volunteer feedback after events.

5 With support from the Employability, Enterprise and Financial Skills Team, liaise with relevant schools/sixth forms and businesses to organise activities: schedule events, recruit volunteers, find suitable venues, prepare materials, ensure Health and Safety processes are in place, etc. Build links with employers who can support young people with work experience, school leaver programmes and/or who have multiple entry level routes into the business. General duties: Update Tower Hamlets EBP database and maintain project/programme records. Adhere to Tower Hamlets EBP staff handbook procedures and participate in the annual appraisal system of staff development. Be aware of the need for self-development in line with Tower Hamlets EBP s business priorities, and to liaise with line manager to explore ways in which these needs can be best met. Support other Tower Hamlets EBP project managers with their duties as and when directed by line manager. Contribute to general office responsibilities such as ensuring a clean and safe working environment and answering the switchboard when necessary. Contribute to the overall strategy of Tower Hamlets EBP. Outcomes: A vibrant and engaged Alumni of young people supported and helped by Tower Hamlets EBP. The Pathways to Apprenticeships event successfully delivered each year. At least 30 Post 16 events delivered across Tower Hamlets Schools/Sixth Forms each year, receiving positive feedback from stakeholders. Contacts: Liaise with people from businesses/employers at all levels. Work directly with groups of students. Liaise with teachers, senior teachers and head teachers.
