It is still out there, a silent killer, blighting the lives of more than two million patients, with a further million undiagnosed. We are the largest charitable funder supporting renal research in the UK today. For decades the research we enable has been saving lives, but people continue to suffer and we want to do so much more to help Through targeted research, the collation and sharing of health information and strategic planning we have been shaping and facilitating advances in renal research since 1961, collaborating with other charities and funders to deliver life-changing care to all those affected. With the incidences of obesity, heart disease and high blood pressure (all triggers for kidney disease) on the increase due to our changing life-styles, our work is more essential than ever, and we need good, passionate and caring people to help get us to a cure faster. Team Summary Kidney Research UK s Community and Events Fundraising team manage and develop relationships with individuals and groups to help them support the charity in a way that suits them and raise more money than they ever thought possible. 2 The researchers we invest in, whose work changes how we think about kidney disease and how to beat it, are naturally ambitious. This desire to find answers to the most difficult questions requires a spark of ambition. Even in the face of frustrating results they don t stop. They can t stop. The surgeons, doctors and nurses, who specialise in kidney health, know that when kidney disease strikes it is a race against time. Our work wouldn t be possible without our supporters. They often have a personal connection to kidney disease and this strong link makes them go the extra mile. Research into kidney disease is hugely under-funded and this creates frustration and anger. More must be done. We want to harness this emotion. 3 Role Description Summary Meet or exceed the growing Challenge Events net income budget by delivering a high quality event portfolio. Provide effective leadership and management for members of the Community and Events team. Build strong and lasting relationships with high value events supporters, delivering excellent customer care and developing supporters to maximise their potential. Core Accountabilities These include but are not limited to: 1. Strategy and Budget Contribute towards the long term strategic plan and roadmap for Community and Events Fundraising. Work with the Head of Community and Events to create operational plans & annual Challenge Events budgets. Responsible for meeting the growing Challenge Event net income targets. 2. Supporter Account Management Responsible for account managing high value challenge event supporters developing personalised supporter development plans and delivering these via telephone, and face to face meetings. Ensure that all mass supporter communications for events are in place and effectively delivered by the appropriate internal teams. Ensure that all supporter communications are effective in maximising income and inspiring long term support for the organisation. Engage volunteers to support the delivery of our Challenge Events portfolio. 3. Events Management In conjunction with Head of Community and Events develop the Kidney Research UK event portfolio; identify and assess the best Challenge Events Fundraising opportunities including Charity of the Year. Responsible for the coordinating the creation and delivery of effective event marketing and communications plans to meet recruitment and fundraising targets. Responsible for ensuring the effective planning, project management and delivery of event logistics for all challenge events. Provide effective leadership for events on the day liaising with suppliers, volunteers and staff to ensure seamless delivery of high quality event experience for supporters. To produce regular reports (inc. event evaluation) on all activity, identifying any risk factors, action to address, overall performance and areas for development. Responsible for ensure all health and safety requirements for challenge events are in place and all risks managed effectively.
4 4. General Management Provide effective line management for Community & Events Fundraisers. Track ongoing progress against budget and put in place action to maximise opportunities, or mitigate risks. To deputise for the Head of Community & Events Fundraising as required. 5. Cross Organisational Responsible for spotting opportunities for other fundraising teams and the wider organisation. Contribute to cross organisational project and initiatives as required. 6. Ambassadorial Role To represent the Charity at events as required. To act as an effective brand ambassador. Proactively network with other charity representative to learn and share best practice. To keep up to date with external developments in the sector, identifying innovative opportunities and to advise on new and appropriate approaches for the charity. 7. Other Duties Working with other teams across the organisation to proactively interact with and promote good examples of Community and Events Fundraising. To produce reports and plans as required to deliver your role and with direction from your line manager. Data management ensuring data is effectively captured on Raisers Edge and stored in line with Data Protection Policies. Ensure all activity is delivered in line with Kidney Research UK policies and procedures and external regulation / legislation including the Fundraising Regulator s Code of Practice. To undertake any other activity reasonably requested by the Head of Community and Events Fundraising. The above list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out such other duties as required from time to time which are broadly consistent with the status of the post within the organisation. Measures of Performance: The delivery of agreed objectives. Effective line management of team members. Ability to represent the charity and cause at all levels and where appropriate assist in making the case for support. Accuracy of all data and information on RE to deliver long-term profitable relationships with individuals and organisations.
5 Attendance and outputs from meetings and events. Ability to manage diaries and meetings. Effective liaison with internal departments and external agencies as required. Effective management of operational admin of department in line with standard charity procedures. Person specification: This is a role for a dynamic, confident events manager with a flair for delivering successful fundraising events and an ability to build relationships and maximise opportunities. Essential Proven experience of working in a fundraising events environment and leading successful fundraising events. Experience of building relationships with a range of individuals or organisations Management of budgets and the development and implementation of plans Budget management, forecasting and reporting. Experience of effectively evaluating activities and programmes of work. Passion for developing relationships with supporters, enabling them to achieve and raise more than they thought was possible. Knowledge of fundraising, including understanding of fundraising codes of practice. Drive, enthusiasm and determination to deliver targets and be able to deal positively with setbacks, identify and implement solutions to difficulties. Ability to identify opportunities for business and personal improvement to drive efficiency and effectiveness. Excellent negotiation, influencing and motivational skills. Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including presentations). Willingness to travel throughout the UK and work evenings and weekend as required (TOIL is available in line with our policy). Willing to uphold the values of Kidney Research UK and demonstrate them in everyday work. Ability to work within all Kidney Research UK policies and procedures. Desirable Experience of line management. Demonstrable experience of delivering successful marketing campaigns. Experience of using databases as a tool for delivering excellent supporter engagement. Good standard of IT literacy including Word and Excel programmes. Current driving license and full use of a vehicle.
