Nottingham Lakeside Arts is the University of Nottingham s rich and diverse public arts programme which is closely aligned to the University s 2020 Plan, and plays a key role in delivering this ambition. NLA s mission is to encourage access to excellence across the visual, performing and participatory arts, museum and Manuscripts & Special collections; in so doing we will develop and expand audiences which will include University staff and students, general public of all ages and abilities, researchers and special interest groups. Lakeside s facilities include the Djanogly Art Gallery, Angear Visitor Centre, Djanogly Theatre and Djanogly Recital Hall, Weston Gallery (Manuscripts and Special Collections) and Museum of Archaeology. In Lakeside captured 195,000 engagements (workshop participants, gallery visitors, participants in the University music making programme, and performance attendees). This figure does not include visitors to the two on-site cafés. Purpose of the Role: The role holder will work closely with Nottingham Lakeside Arts Head of Marketing & Audience Development to plan and implement, monitor and evaluate, marketing, sales and communications campaigns across Lakeside s multi-art form and museum brief targeting public visitors and audiences, as well as University of Nottingham staff and students. The role holder will be/become proficient in the use of Tessitura as a CRM tool to maximise earned income at the box office, support the development of individual giving, and widen and develop audiences across the visual, performing, participatory arts and wider heritage offer.

2 S/he will be an ambassador for Nottingham Lakeside Arts, its activities and performances, promoting the offer to existing and new audiences at every opportunity, and helping to maintain excellent relationships with all of Lakeside s stakeholders internally and externally. S/he will provide hands-on support at major festival events, and will be expected to attend at least one event every two weeks as part of NLA s ongoing programme in order to understand the offer, and get to know audiences. Main Responsibilities 1. Marketing and Publicity % time per year 60% Create and implement individual campaigns and generic marketing activity using online, social media, front of house advertising and direct mail collateral to include: Writing effective copy for marketing and direct mail letters, and copywriting as required for Lakeside s promotional leaflets and posters, website and social media presence Layout and proofing of all marketing collateral including appropriate use of logos/brands for final approval Co-ordination of foyer and front of house marketing activity to produce an attractive, welcoming arrival, ensuring that all spaces are welcoming and inviting, including posters, signage and front of house activities Co-ordination of Lakeside s campaigns using Tessitura and Mail2, overseeing Lakeside s database Overseeing appropriate marketing, communications and advertising schedules in conjunction with media buyers, and venues (in the case of touring projects) Work with rostered design agencies and other suppliers, effectively managing outsourced suppliers as required Delegate, manage and monitor particular campaign tasks to box office staff and other members of the marketing and Front of House team Monitor and report on box office income for each performance/event; actively proposing ideas to increase sales when not reaching target income Co-ordinate, produce and manage print requirements including Chinese New Year, Diwali, Nottingham New Theatre co-production, ON Seasonal brochure, Wheee!, and Lustre, liaising with designers/ printers / coproduction partners and Marketing and Digital Assistant to oversee effective distribution of print material Oversee show-specific campaign budgets, providing regular reports on expenditure against budget Support the Head of Audience Development, with the implementation of audience development plan(s) using Audience Agency/Tessitura data analysis and focusing on: Increasing frequency of attendance for existing audiences and developing new audiences in order to increase box office revenue and engage with new communities across the city and regionally Working with Programmers to target new audiences and to grow sustained and strategic partnerships with key organisations Page 2 of 5

3 Helping to develop initiatives that make Lakeside more accessible to diverse audiences Assisting in devising/delivering initiatives aimed at attracting firsttime attenders and building on-going relationships with those attenders Timely evaluation on specific campaigns, both qualitative (audience surveys, word of mouth) and quantitative (Tessitura sales reports, buying patterns). Website/Online and Social Media Contribute to web-developments in the context of the forthcoming University digital project, and linked University web and digital engagement with audiences Oversee the maintenance, co-ordination and creation of web content and digital material, including content management of Xibo screens across all Lakeside venues and University of Nottingham as appropriate 2. Communications and Public Relations 15% Establish and maintain excellent relationships with Lakeside stakeholders including The University of Nottingham, audiences, co-producers, partners, venues, artists and creative teams in support of sales activity Work closely with colleagues in External Relations with a view to aligning NLA and new University brand and seeking opportunities which can be capitalised upon to the benefit of both areas Maintain the Lakeside brand as synonymous with high quality and accessible arts experiences across the Djanogly Recital Hall, Gallery and Theatre as well as building upon the establishment of the Museum and Special Collections offer 3. Staff Management/Liaison and Event Co-ordination 10% Effectively manage the Marketing and Digital Assistant and other positions as required in relation to the marketing and audience development tasks in hand Undertake Personal Development and Performance Plan (appraisal) for staff as required, including devising and supporting the implementation of individual personal development plans Plan and co-ordinate press and/or special events liaising with colleagues across the University (Campaign and Alumni Office/Vice-Chancellor s Office/Marketing and Communications) and Lakeside (Programmers/Café Manager / Front of House Manager) as required 4. Administration and Finance 10% Contribute to season briefings for front line staff Ensure budgetary control of specific campaign initiatives, reporting to Head of Audience Development and/or Head of Business & Development on occasion against target expenditure Page 3 of 5

4 Oversee the Marketing and Digital Assistant s use of Sci-Quest, and Agresso to place orders as required, and use of Agresso and Sci-Quest in the absence of the Marketing and Digital Assistant Completion and/or sign-off of Intern and/or trainees timesheets as necessary 5. Other 5% Deputise for the Head of Marketing & Audience Development as required Be an Ambassador, acting in the best interests of Lakeside and the University of Nottingham at all times Attend Lakeside performances and special events to ensure understanding of audience make-up and awareness of programme quality and diversity Agree to abide by University of Nottingham and Lakeside-specific policies including Equality and Diversity, IT/Data Protection, Health and Safety, Child Protection etc. Maintain confidentiality in all areas relating to Lakeside and The University of Nottingham Any other duties as required by Line Manager, commensurate with the post Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience Essential Qualifications/ Education Skills/Training Experience HND in Marketing or equivalent work experience Knowledge and use of Outlook 365, Microsoft Office Suite, DTP packages Knowledge and experience of using social media as a marketing tool Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Dynamic and proactive approach with demonstrable ability to generate original ideas for marketing campaigns Strong interpersonal skills, combines with enthusiasm and flexibility in approach Ability to multi-task/manage multiple priorities Knowledge of CRM systems Flexible approach to working unsociable hours, some evenings and weekends Demonstrable experience of marketing in a theatre/multi-arts environment Demonstrable experience of copywriting with excellent attention to detail Desirable Relevant degree Knowledge and experience of Tessitura Page 4 of 5

No overtime will be payable, although the post holder may take time off in lieu in agreement with their line manager.
