1 UNIVERSITY OF LINCOLN JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE DEPARTMENT LOCATION Health and Safety Assistant Health and Safety Department Brayford Pool JOB NUMBER HS1006 GRADE 4 DATE June 2017 REPORTS TO Head of Health and Safety CONTEXT The Health and Safety Department provides professional advice and guidance to the University in relation to good health and safety management. This includes an extensive audit programme, training a variety of stakeholders, site inspections, accident investigations and liaising with a number of external bodies. JOB PURPOSE To assist with the provision of health and safety support and guidance to all university stakeholders and to provide and effective and efficient support to the Health and Safety team and stakeholders. The role will work with minimal supervision and will make independent decisions. The role holder will clarify matters of a non-routine nature dealing occasionally dealing with complex queries which relate to a range of procedures and processes. This role will contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the service provision. The post holder will be required to complete the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and undertake project management. Page 1 of 5

2 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Project support Undertake health and safety related projects identified by the Head of Health and Safety in connection to the Health and Safety agenda. Assist with routine inspections and audits Assist the team with routine inspections and health and safety audits ensuring that all appropriate recording paperwork is completed. Analysing data Periodically analyse incident records and audit findings to produce reports for the Head of Health and Safety which require attention to detail in how information is presented. Assist with routine fire evacuation drills Arrange and undertake some of the routine fire evacuation drills in line with an agreed programme. Co-ordination of health surveillance Produce reports relating on online training compliance. Co-ordination of training Co-ordinate training in the use of evacuation chairs. To ensure new operatives are trained and existing operatives receive refresher training. Student engagement champion To act as champion for student engagement in regards to the health and safety agenda. This will involve drafting communications and attending applicable forums to engage with students on health and safety issues. In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post. Page 2 of 5

3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Scope and dimensions of the role To undertake training and development activities agreed with the Head of Health and Safety. Role holders will be responsible for planning and managing their own time while being results driven. The nature of the work will occasionally require some duties to be performed out of normal working hours.
