Scope of the job This position sits within Mind s Policy and Campaigns team. A key part of the role will be to work closely with colleagues in the team to deliver campaigns to Mind s campaigners and other stakeholders. You will use your skills and knowledge in online and offline campaigning to help generate new ideas that will help ensure that the rights, needs and priorities of people with mental health problems are heard by decision makers. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of Mind s e-campaigning work set out in our new campaigning strategy and for our contact with Mind s 80,000 online campaigners. You will look for opportunities to improve engagement with campaigners including trying to get them offline and out into their local community - and work closely with the Senior Campaigns Officer, as well as with colleagues across External Relations, to help coordinate other elements of Mind s campaign activity. As part of the Campaigns team you will be responsible for the delivery and evaluation on a project to fully engage individuals with lived experience of mental health problems in Mind s campaigns. Further to this you will be the key contact for campaign enquiries from other organisations, and spot opportunities to support third-party campaigns. You will support cross-organisational working within Mind, focusing specifically on integrating campaigns and fundraising. As well as working with the broader External Relations department (Communications,
2 Media, Information and Legal), you will be expected to develop relationships and work with Mind s Networks and Communities department, the Fundraising department, and Mind in Wales. Mind aims to ensure that our strategy and all our activities fully reflect the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, vulnerable migrants, people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer or transgender, and people with physical, cognitive or sensory impairments, with mobility impairments, or with learning difficulties, with full regard to their age, background and personal circumstances. You will be expected to contribute to this aim. Key responsibilities 1. To work with the Senior Campaigns Officer and other members of the Policy and Campaigns team, External Relations department, Fundraising department and Mind in Wales to ensure that our campaigns are coordinated, relevant and exciting. 2. To oversee the delivery of Mind s e-campaigning work and output to campaigners and work with the Senior Campaigns Officer to ensure that Mind s campaigners are given a range of opportunities to engage with our work. For example: attending national events, taking action locally, ing a decision maker, or cross-selling with fundraising. 3. To set up, monitor and evaluate a lived experience champions project involving people with mental health problems to help guide Mind s campaigning work. 4. To represent Mind externally with individual stakeholders, campaign groups and organizations at external events. 5. To establish effective working relationships and good rapport with colleagues across the organisation. 6. To support ongoing work to integrate Mind s campaign and fundraising activity. 7. To engage people with mental health problems in all aspects of your work as appropriate and to deal tactfully and sensitively with people with mental health problems. 8. Contribute to discreet projects within the Campaigns team and supporting individuals to run their own campaigns. 9. Oversee reporting and evaluation of Mind s campaign activity and pursue areas of best practice for our Campaigns work. 10. Support the three Policy and Campaigns Assistants in developing their ecampaigning skills and ensuring that relevant processes are followed. 11. Ensure Mind s campaigner data is kept up to date, is GDPR compliant and recorded on Mind s contact management system.
3 12. Undertake other duties that may from time to time be necessary, that are compatible with the nature and grade of the post. EXPECTATIONS 1. To attend and contribute to supervision and appraisal process, meetings, training, and other events as required. 2. To adhere to relevant legal and statutory requirements including the Data Protection Act (ensuring an appropriate level of confidentiality at all times), Health and Safety at Work Act (ensuring H&S of own and others at all times) and any other relevant/charity law. 3. To travel to meetings in England and Wales, which may require the need to work unsociable hours e.g. attending evening or weekend meetings or for overnight stay. 4. To ensure that all responsibilities and activities within this post are in accordance with the terms and spirit of Mind s mission, vision, values, objectives, policies, procedures and practices 5. To undertake other duties that may be necessary with the nature of this post and thus will require flexibility in undertaking the role 6. To contribute to making Mind a greener workplace
4 Mind Person specification: Campaigns Officer Essential criteria 1. Experience of working in a local or national campaigns role, including delivering campaigns. 2. Knowledge of and demonstrable ability to use e-campaigning software to build online campaign actions, and experience of using contact management databases to manage campaigners or supporters. 3. Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in voluntary sector campaigning including developments in this field and awareness of online and offline campaigning best practice 4. Knowledge and demonstrable experience of working with others to plan and evaluate campaign activity. 5. Demonstrable experience of engaging service users and/or campaigners in your work. 6. Demonstrable ability to establish personal credibility, to understand the demands of team working and of working with colleagues to develop and implement their ideas. 7. Ability to work across several different projects at once and prioritise workload. 8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including verbal, written, negotiation and persuasion skills. 9. Empathy with Mind s aims and values, including an understanding of and commitment to Mind s equal opportunity policy. 10. Excellent computer skills including using Microsoft office, databases, and use of internet, and understanding and use of campaigning software such as Engaging Networks, Campaignion and Dotmailer. 11.
