1 Edmonton Catholic Schools is now accepting applications for the position of Supervisor, Program Development Services (New position) Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school District whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. The District is comprised of over 42,000 students and 5,000 employees in 96 schools and other sites. Edmonton Catholic Schools requires a Supervisor, Program Development Services to be accountable for directly supporting the development/re-engineering, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the District s electronic financial system and in-house built mission critical applications. The job implements, integrates and supports complex or organizationwide systems modules. The incumbent participates in end-to-end implementation planning including change management, training, upgrade and support. The job interfaces with Financial Services, Facility Services and other business partners to gather information and determine requirements. The job is viewed as the technical expert in all aspects of the financial systems which requires the incumbent to keep abreast of rapidly changing technology. The job participates on district-wide projects and provides expertise and guidance related to Financial Information Technology. The job directly supervises the Application Analyst, Financial Systems with leadership being a key aspect of the work. This is a permanent, full-time, Level 7, Out of Scope position with a salary range of $81, $101, commencing as soon as possible. The job leads the planning and is accountable for directly supporting the development/re-engineering, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the district s electronic financial system and in-house built mission critical applications. The job implements, integrates and supports complex or organization-wide systems modules. The incumbent participates in end-toend implementation planning including change management, training, upgrade and support. The job interfaces with Financial Services, Facility Services and other business partners to gather information and determine requirements. The job is viewed as the technical expert in all aspects of the financial systems which requires the incumbent to keep abreast of rapidly changing technology. The job participates on district-wide projects and provides expertise and guidance related to Financial Information Technology. The job directly supervises the Application Analyst, Financial Systems with leadership being a key aspect of the work. The job reports to the Manager, Program Development Services and is part of a multi-disciplinary team. The incumbent is assigned to Financial Services and receives functional direction from the Manager, Financial Systems. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is. Supervision and leadership Assign, delegate and evaluate work performed by Application Analysts Participate in recruitment and selection activities Coach, guide and assist Application Analyst in meeting objectives Mentor Application Analyst in developing their understanding of the Financial Systems development environment Ensure continuity of service by training Application Analyst(s) on existing business processes and development initiatives Lead, coach, train and mentor district staff in area of expertise 2. Documentation and process analysis Collaborate with business partners to conduct current process analysis utilizing business and system expertise Monitor workflow and schedule processes designed to update Financial information Document business requirements and work with ITTS and business partners on appropriate design decisions Participate in streamlining existing processes to develop efficiencies, reduce manual intervention and enhance service 3. Consultation and communication Provide guidance in technical expertise for application projects Consult with stakeholders to identify business problems and communicate ways of streamlining process Work with department staff to prioritize issues, track status of issues, log incidents and service requests Provide advanced support for Financial Services and Facility Services staff including training and troubleshooting Collaborate with business analysts in the achievement of goals 4. Lead the planning, developing/re-engineering, implementing applications and provide ongoing support for a wide-range of financial applications Work with staff and business partners to determine business requirements for new and/or enhanced system requests Plan, develop and provide administrative support to databases specific to the application Develop or modify software code to meet specifications or facilitate integration Collaborate with users and department staff to develop system requirements and specifications, ensuring that applications meet business case requirements and adhere to department policies, procedures and standards as well as department standards and security as directed by the manager 5. Maintenance and recovery Work closely with systems personnel on disaster recovery strategies, back-up/ restore processes, capacity planning and security requirements Provide high level maintenance and support to all the business applications including defining and resolving day-to-day application processing problems 6. Problem resolution and data integrity Identify systems problems and research potential solutions Research irregularities identified in the audit reports, make or facilitate necessary corrections and provide remedial solutions Collaborate in the management of data integrity processes, including year-end roll over Run identified queries on a regular basis to audit the integrity of the Financial database 7. Support and testing Provide advanced technical and data integration support to specific defined applications to ensure the unit s ongoing commitment to establish applications Perform high-end application systems testing on assigned systems prior to deployment ensuring user receives a working product that meets project objectives 8. Professional development Maintain knowledge to keep abreast with rapidly changing technology Maintain technical knowledge and credentials through a range of professional development activities. Develop and maintain knowledge in district business applications to provide support, maintain IITS security and development practices PROBLEM SOLVING: Describe difficult or challenging situations the position is typically expected to solve; the degree of originality of the solutions; assistance available; and any problems or decisions that must be referred to a supervisor for resolution or approval Problems are related to varied components of Financial IT systems including Cayenta Budget workbook, Excel worksheets and in-house built applications. The job resolves problems with assigned administrative business applications. This incumbent is primarily responsible for researching solutions and making recommendations on technologies to improve existing business processes or challenges. The incumbent has the authority to make most decisions directly related to ongoing day-to-day operational issues and maintenance of the applications. The job requires specialized knowledge and a level of expertise of business applications related to electronic financial systems (Cayenta) and all the other financial applications. As a result, some decisions are made independently and often within tight timelines. The job participates in strategic planning both within the department and with district staff. These applications provide direct administrative support to all district staff. The job interfaces with Financial Services, Facility Services as well as other business partners (Human Resource Services) as required to gather payroll information and determine requirements. The job participates in strategic planning both within the department and with district staff. To perform the range of responsibilities the incumbent applies technical proficiency with financial applications including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, Inventory Management, Work Order Management, School Budget Workbook, Executive Reporting, Cognos reporting and Payroll Data.
