1 ROLE SPECIFICATION JOB TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: JOB PURPOSE: Retail Volunteers Manager Retail General Manager Manage the volunteer programme within Acorns Retail. Facilitate volunteering projects in Retail to provide support within the shops and in the sorting facilities. Work with all stakeholders to identify needs and new initiatives and maintain effective volunteer support to ensure the identified needs are met. Actively promote volunteering to meet targets set ensuring that our volunteering is always compliant, safe and a good experience and that all concerns are dealt with professionally. MAIN DUTIES: The post holder will: 1. Manage the Volunteer programme for Retail and align it to the organisational strategy. 2. Focus on recruitment and deliver the recruitment target as detailed in the Operational Plan. 3. Contribute to developing the Strategy of Acorns Children s Hospice to involve volunteers within Retail attending implementation of Strategy and Senior Management Group meetings. 4. Develop plans to meet strategic goals as set out in the organisational strategy. 5. Manage the budget for volunteering activities and volunteer expenses. 6. Review and update the Retail Volunteer Programme and develop structures, systems and procedures to support volunteering. 7. Lead and motivate volunteers. 8. Plan, organise, monitor and manage volunteering activities, maintain volunteer records and monitor impact of volunteer involvement. 9. Keep all volunteer documentation up to date, relevant and aligned to organisational policies. Page 1 of 5
2 10. Liaise with the Retail Coordinator and Supporter Services in relation to volunteer Donorflex records. 11. Actively promote volunteering within the organisation. 12. Promote volunteering to potential and actual volunteers. 13. Identify new areas for volunteer involvement. 14. Support the development of volunteers knowledge, skills and competence. Identified training to be provided (including volunteer induction). 15. Provide individual and group support to volunteers. 16. Organise events involving volunteers to show appreciation for their support. 17. Lead and participate in meetings involving volunteers. 18. Audit and evaluate the Retail Volunteer Programme. 19. Develop and promote productive working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders. 20. Participate in regional network events to promote volunteering. 21. Facilitate corporate volunteering projects in Retail promoting positive relationships. 22. Ensure all volunteer involvement is provided sensitively, bearing in mind the needs of the shops. 23. Ensure safe working for all volunteers and volunteer projects. 24. Participate in regular supervision with Retail General Manager. 25. Maintain an awareness of the multi-cultural nature of the West Midlands and help ensure that our service delivery is appropriate to meet those diverse needs. 26. Take responsibility for ensuring good communication, using appropriate channels, is maintained within the organisation at all times. 27. To act as an ambassador for Acorns raising awareness of its charitable aims and objectives and enhancing its reputation through exemplary behaviour, conduct and team working. 28. To put the needs and interests of Acorns children and young people and their families first in all aspects of their work. Page 2 of 5

To actively participate in an annual Individual Performance Review and any training and development identified to further enhance your role with Acorns. 31. Promote a coaching culture within Acorns and provide coaching expertise as a resource across the organisation. 32. To carry out any other reasonable duty as requested by the Head of Retail. This role specification is not an exhaustive breakdown of duties and will be reviewed as necessary. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Retail Volunteers Manager Qualifications Experience Skills Abilities Other ESSENTIAL Good standard of education including GCSE English at level C or above. Knowledge of Volunteering. Experience of managing teams. Experience of working in the volunteer sector. Experience of working in the charity sector. Excellent administrative and organisational skills. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office 2010 Ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines Ability to understand, exhibit and implement excellent volunteer care, attitude and behaviour, therefore committed to building good internal and external relationships, both with volunteers, staff and supporters. Committed to the highest standard of volunteer care. Numerate. Collaborative team player who is willing to share knowledge and learning openly to create understanding and support. Willingness to train and learn new skills. Willingness and ability to travel. Ability to travel independently throughout the organisation. Willingness to work outside agreed hours on an occasional basis. Driving Licence/Car Owner. DESIRABLE Awareness of General Data Protection Regulations. 5 TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT POSITION: Retail Volunteers Manager REPORTING TO: Head of Retail LOCATION: Based at Drakes Court, Wythall although travel required throughout the West Midlands. (over 50 shop locations). SALARY: 30k per annum NOTICE: 12 weeks HOURS: 37.5 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends to be worked. HOLIDAYS: 31 days (229.5 hours) rising to 35 days (259 hours) after 3 years service. Includes public holidays. PENSION: Organisation will pay a contribution of 7.5% into the Group Personal Pension Plan. Employee to pay a minimum contribution of 3% into the plan. LIFE ASSURANCE: 2 x salary life assurance scheme All terms and conditions will be detailed in writing together with Employee/Health & Safety handbook, which must be read and observed.
