3 The Operatins Respnse Center SPU s Operatins Respnse Center (ORC) is staffed 24-hurs a day, seven days a week. ORC Operatrs take calls frm internal and external custmers and create wrk rders. ORC Operatrs priritize and dispatch wrk rders using the Field Operatins Mapping System. The ORC serves as a central pint fr cmmunicating event updates frm management t field persnnel. The ORC activates the apprpriate Emergency Actin Plan (EAP) when directed. ORC staff augment Field Operatins and Maintenance staffing levels accrding t Standby/EAP prcedures r at the directin f the Incident Cmmander.

SPU cmmunicates with residents in neighbrhds, which have experienced significant urban flding in the past, thrugh cmmunity meetings, blgs, etc. This is dne in advance f seasnal strm activity t infrm residents f SPU s respnse and preparedness activities.

If the risk f significant flding appears imminent, SPU may pre-psitin equipment in prximity f thse pre-identified ht-spts. SPU may als use the NXT Out-dialer System (Madisn Valley area nly) t ntify affected residents f increasing risks.

12 Befre the Freeze Seattle Public Utilities Water Distributin crews install Tp Shut Off Valves and instruct hmewners hw t shut ff their water in the event f a leak emergency. Freezing Weather Public Outreach The prgram includes strategies t increase public awareness and preparedness by making infrmatin available thrugh: TakeWinterbyStrm.rg Articles in the Nvember/December issue Yur Service (SPU s bimnthly custmer newsletter) recmmending that custmers knw where and hw t turn ff their water supply. Als included are suggestins n winterizing the hmewner s water system. Crdinated effrts with SPU s Cmmunicatins Office t send media news releases, Public Service Annuncements highlighting ways t keep water pipes frm freezing.
