2 Gvernance Bard The Ryal Opera Huse is a registered charitable cmpany, limited by guarantee, with a nn-executive Bard. The Bard f Trustees cntribute, n a vluntary basis, expertise frm culture, educatin, business, finance, legal affairs and the public sectr. The Trustees meet six times a year, verseeing delivery f missin and aims, reviewing risk, making senir appintments and apprving majr spend. There are sub-cmmittees fr Finance and Operatins, Audit and Risk Cmmittee, Peple and Organisatin, Learning and Participatin the Open Up prject, Develpment (fundraising) and Fundraising Ethics. Executive Team The Executive Team structure is as fllws: T supprt in the delivery f ur plan, ur perating mdel is as fllws (and see diagram): Our art - we have tw artfrms with three artistic prducts ballet and pera perfrmances and the L&P prgramme We engage and grw ur audiences thrugh ur Audiences and Media team - they integrate ur media, marketing and cmmunicatins acrss ur artfrms t engage and grw current and future audiences. We generate secndary revenue thrugh ur Develpment and Enterprises team. This cmes frm custmers nce they attend ne f ur perfrmances, either at a transactinal level (catering, shp, events), r thrugh mre life-time assciatins (becming Friends, Spnsrs r develping partnerships). This is delivered every day thrugh the peratinal teams frm back stage, t the building, t the ushers we need t carefully manage and ptimise ur space, technlgy and peple t make this happen. 2
3 We have the right checks and balances in place t ensure that we are managing ur mney and risks apprpriately, and we have access t the necessary finance t deliver ur pririties The rle f Directr f Operatins Reprting t the Chief Executive, Alex Beard, the Directr f Operatins will be part f the Ryal Opera Huse s Executive Team. They will have line management respnsibility fr the Orchestra Administratin Directr, Technical Directr, Chief Technlgy Officer, Directr f Planning and Business Affairs, Directr f Human Resurces, Head f Facilities, Head f Visitr Experience and Bx Office Operatins Manager. This is a newly-cnfigured pst, fllwing the annunced departure f the current Chief Operating Officer, Sally O Neill, in December The main accuntability f the rle is t ensure that the right peple, prcesses, technlgy and infrastructure are in place t deliver the ROH plan peratinally, while cntinuusly driving imprvements in cst, efficiency and safety. This cntinuus, crss departmental change prgramme culd include: Optimising the use f ur peple, equipment and space Prcess re-engineering Autmating activity Imprving utilisatin Ensuring terms and cnditins are fit fr purpse Culture change T supprt this, the main respnsibilities f the rle will be t: 3
4 Lead a highly capable executive team t develp and deliver an integrated change prgramme acrss the peratinal areas. Develp the business cases and negtiate fr resurces fr the change prgramme. Make recmmendatins t the Bard fr significant investments r changes as required. Be accuntable fr hw the change prjects are priritised and resurces are allcated acrss the peratinal areas and reslve any cnflicts r cmpetitin fr resurces in a way that benefits the ROH as a whle. Ensure that the ROH wrks clsely with Trade Unins and staff t ensure changes are implemented effectively. Develp relatinships with peers in ther cmplex rganisatins including ther pera and ballet huses, theatres, technical and prductin cmpanies and custmer service fcussed rganisatins. Prvide visible leadership internally with staff, casuals and cntractrs at all levels. Oversee a number f departments including apprximately 600 staff, casuals and cntractrs, and a budget f apprximately 50m including: Bx Office, Digital Develpment and Technlgy, Facilities Frnt f Huse, Human Resurces, Orchestra Administratin, Planning and Business Affairs, and Technical and Prductin. Be an advcate and ambassadr fr the ROH As a member f the Executive Team, participate in the strategic and artistic planning f the Ryal Opera Huse Actively engage with the develping f the ROH strategy and plan. Persn Specificatin The ideal candidate will have: Extensive previus experience f leading significant peple change in a cmplex rganisatin Prven ability t be able t lead and inspire a senir team Strng negtiating and persuasin skills with a track recrd f previus successful Unin negtiatins. Resilience and an ability t drive change Ability t cmmunicate bth in writing and rally in a fluent and persuasive manner, in gd clear English, and t listen, negtiate and be assertive as apprpriate. Ability t deal with peple at all levels in a cnfident and prfessinal manner Demnstrable cmmitment t the principles f diversity and inclusin and their practical applicatin and integratin in the wrk envirnment A clear passin fr the ROH s cmmitment t enrich peple s lives and prmte the wider interests f cultural learning, ballet, dance, pera, music and the arts in general, as a resurce fr the natin. 5 Appintment prcess and hw t apply An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver, alngside public advertisement f the rle. Perrett Laver will supprt the Selectin Panel at the Ryal Opera Huse in the discharge f its duties, bth t assist the assessment f candidates against the requirements f the rle and t identify the widest pssible field f candidates.
